  • Patent number: 9042404
Abstract: The present application discloses apparatus and methods for increasing channel utilization for a high-speed serial interface of an integrated circuit (IC). A new circuit architecture is disclosed which provides circuitry that may be programmed flexibly to support a multitude of different channel bonding schemes. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the new architecture decouples the granularity of control-signal channel bonding from the granularity of data-aggregation channel bonding. This advantageously allows optimization of configurations for both types of channel bonding. In another aspect of the invention, the logical boundaries of bonded user channels are decoupled from the physical boundaries of the PCS modules. This decoupling advantageously eliminates a rigid constraint of previous architectures.

Abstract: Techniques are presented for configuring multiple client devices to connect to a network device (e.g., a wireless router). In one embodiment, a setup application executing on one of the client devices determines if the network device has previously been configured. For example, the network device may broadcast a predefined network name to advertise that a user access point has been configured. If the polling setup application detects the predefined network name, then it can skip any steps that would configure the network device. Accordingly, the setup application only configures the client device to connect to the network device.

An example embodiment includes: initializing a noise threshold value to a default value; detecting an ambient RF noise level on a plurality of channels of a wireless network device; if the ambient RF noise level detected on a pre-determined number of channels is above the noise threshold value, adjusting the noise threshold value by an increment and retesting the ambient RF noise level on the plurality of channels; if the noise threshold value exceeds a pre-determined maximum noise threshold value, suspending data communications by the wireless network device; and if the ambient RF noise level detected on a pre-determined number of channels is below the noise threshold value, retaining the noise threshold value and enabling data communications by the wireless network device.

Abstract: A plurality of frame buffers of a communication device store input frames for respective flows, which are units of managing communication. A sequential scheduler and an adjustment scheduler cyclically visit the plurality of frame buffers to read a frame for external output from each frame buffer. The sequential scheduler reads one frame per a visit to each frame buffer at a speed lower than a communication speed of the communication device. The adjustment scheduler reads one or more frames per a visit to each frame buffer such that a restriction on read quantity defined by a reference value greater than the shortest frame size is imposed.

Abstract: In a multi-PHY, low power and lossy network comprising a plurality of nodes, a sender determines that a dwell time threshold limit for transmission of data will be exceeded by transmission of the data over a first network interface or that the recipient is unknown. The sender determines transmission parameters for the transmission of the data over the first network interface and transmits the transmission parameters to a receiver device over a second network interface that is different than the first network interface. The sender determines a channel on the first network interface for transmission of the data and transmits the determined channel with the transmission parameters to the receiver, or the receiver determines the channel on the first network interface for transmission of the data and transmits an indication of the determined channel to the sender in response to receiving the transmission parameters.

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for dynamically transferring between multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) transmit modes based on a usage level of a wireless access node. In a particular embodiment, a method provides transferring wireless communications to a wireless communication device via a plurality of ports in a wireless access node on a wireless communication network. The method further provides determining an access node usage level for the wireless access node. If the access node usage level satisfies a condition for access node usage, the method provides configuring the plurality of ports to use a MIMO 2 transmit-2 carrier mode for transmitting the wireless communications. If the access node usage level does not satisfy the condition for access node usage, the method provides configuring the plurality of ports to use a MIMO 4 transmit-1 carrier mode for transmitting the wireless communications.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the development of a device, Cognitive Communication Hub (CCH) that combines multiple and hybrid physical layers to collaborate and establish a unified network. The heterogeneous network so formed supports a whole range of bandwidth and spectrum while providing quality of service and class of service. The routing algorithm of the device is designed to explore the best route that can optimally use hybrid networking technologies to make a connection. The device has multiple interfaces and acts in an adhoc fashion. It forms multiple parallel data paths between source and destination and hence provides fault tolerance as a break down in one path does not disconnect end to end connection.
