Patent number: 8520701Abstract: A SIP-based network architecture is defined allowing a variety of access methods for interfacing QSIG-based signaling devices. The QSIG-based signaling devices are typically enterprise-based PBXs that either interface directly via QSIG, or adapt QSIG signaling to related signaling protocols via gateways, which can be customer premise or network based. The gateways can either interwork QSIG signaling or tunnel QSIG signaling over H.323, SIP, or other protocols. Upon reaching the SIP-based network, Session Border Controllers process the signaling. The Session Border Controllers terminate the tunnel (if used) and extracts the QSIG signaling for interworking to SIP, thereby facilitating a homogeneous SIP-based core network. In addition to interworking QSIG signaling, the Session Border Controllers perform other signaling related functions for the SIP-based network that are performed at a point as near as possible to the network's edge.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2009Date of Patent: August 27, 2013Assignee: Verizon Services Corp.Inventor: Naseem A. Patent number: 8514852Abstract: There exists a need to reduce re-transmission delays in real time feeds (such as video) by sending the packet with sufficient repair/recovery information inside the packet container so the relaying stations and/or the receiving devices can fix errors in transmission by perusing the contents of the packet and the repair information, and modify the packet and then relay it. By providing the relaying station the ability to fix the error, retransmission of the packet is avoided along each relay station along the network path from source to destination and also by receiving devices that would otherwise request a re-transmission. This application teaches a method so real time streams (e.g. video) may be more efficiently transported over a CSMA based network.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2009Date of Patent: August 20, 2013Assignee: Mesh Dynamics, Inc.Inventors: Francis daCosta, Sriram Dayanandan

Patent number: 8423652Abstract: The present invention provides a call/session control function for an Internet Protocol multimedia subsystem where a service template may be invoked in lieu of a single multimedia service. The service template identifies a number of multimedia services and associated logic for invoking the multimedia services, once the service template is invoked. In operation, a signaling message is received and appropriate filtering criteria are retrieved for the signaling message. Filtering criteria define a set of rules identifying any multimedia services that need to be invoked in light of receiving the signaling message. The filtering criteria will identify a service template, and perhaps other multimedia services to invoke directly. If a service template is invoked, the service template is obtained and the logic controlling invocation of the associated multimedia services is applied to effect invocation of the multimedia services.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2012Date of Patent: April 16, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Michael Leeder, Roy Sells

The controlling module is configured for controlling the WAP to switch itself to a power-saving mode (PSM) or a constantly awake mode (CAM), according to the identifying result from the identifying module, wherein in the PSM, under the control of the controlling module, the WAP only receives the wireless signal.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2010Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.Inventor: Pei-Yu Wang

Patent number: 8411683Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for routing or forwarding packet data conforming to two different communication protocols simultaneously in a computer network. The first protocol may be a legacy protocol, such as IPv4, with routing being performed in a manner that maintains legacy behavior and functions. Such functions may include network address translation. The second protocol may be a newer protocol, such as IPv6, with the routing or forwarding being performed through reduced complexity bridging that enables simplified connectivity of second protocol devices. The bridging performed typically requires less memory and processing power than traditional routing techniques such as those implemented for the first protocol. Reduced memory and processing power requirements enable the second protocol routing functions to be added to legacy equipment that would not otherwise be able to support routing of the second protocol packet data.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2009Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: Comcast Cable Communications, LLCInventor: John Jason Brzozowski

Patent number: 8412795Abstract: A system such as a “System-on-Chip” includes an interconnection network, a set of initiator modules for transmitting data towards the interconnection network and at least one communication arbiter for deciding, as a function of a set of configuration values, which transmissions of the initiator modules have access to the interconnection network. At least one configuration value is associated with each initiator module. A control device coupled to at least one of the initiator modules detects a communication status associated with the transmissions of the coupled initiator and generates a communication status signal whose value is representative of such status, determines a filtered value representative of a series of the values of the communication status signal, and selectively varies one of the configuration values as a function of the filtered value.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2010Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: STMicroelectronics S.r.l.Inventors: Daniele Mangano, Giuseppe Falconeri, Giovanni Strani

Patent number: 8406726Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for requesting a base station of emergency call connection within the shortest time regardless of location or channel status of a mobile station in a mobile communication system. When the mobile station requests an uplink to connect emergency call, the base station establishes a communication path of mobile station-relay station-base station if signal quality of the mobile station is not better than signal quality transmitted through the relay station, whereby ranging or transmission of emergency data is prevented from being repeated under poor channel status, so as to enable a prompt emergency rescue service.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2008Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Ae Ran Youn, Yong Ho Kim, Ki Seon Ryu

Patent number: 8400943Abstract: A system includes an access node having an associated identifier. The access node is configured to insert the identifier into a network connection request. The system includes an IP edge service node connected to the access node and configured to receive the network connection request. The IP edge service node is further configured to store the inserted identifier and to insert the identifier into an Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) address request transmitted according to dynamic host configuration protocol version 6 (DHCPv6) through an established network connection based on the network connection request. The system further includes a server configured to receive the IPv6 address request and assign an IPv6 address based on the IPv6 address request.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2009Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Wojciech Dec, William Mark Townsley

Patent number: 8396076Abstract: Systems and methods for roaming between a mobile node and at least one serving node connected to a network are disclosed. The present application provides a method for roaming between. In the system and method, a first communication is established between the mobile node and one of the serving nodes through a control server, when an Ethernet transceiver is used by the mobile node. Ethernet is used for communications between the mobile node and the control server, and a wireless communication technology for communications between the control server and the serving node. The control server also translates communications between Ethernet and the wireless communication technology. In the system and method, a second communication is established between the mobile node and one of the serving nodes with the wireless communication technology, when a wireless communication technology transceiver is used by the mobile node.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2011Date of Patent: March 12, 2013Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Michael S.
