  • Patent number: 8619820
Abstract: A system and method for routing data packets may be used. The method may include determining network usage of a first packet network managed by a first communications carrier. The network usage may distinguish communications of data packets including real-time content and non-real-time content. Network usage of a second packet network may be determined. A network usage differential between the determined network usages of the first and second packet networks may be determined. The data packets may be routed utilizing a threshold for the network usage differential.

  • Patent number: 8433047
Abstract: A method for collecting data to measure market-share for a defined telecommunication market. A market of interest is defined and a random panel of numbers is created. A call set-up is initiated to the created random panels by generating signaling messages wherein the signaling messages access a Calling Name Services (CNAM) database, a Local Number Portability (LNP) database, an E-911 Automated Location Information (ALI) database and a Line Information Database (LIDB) using signaling system 7 (SS7) protocol. Generated signaling messages access ENUM (Telephone Number Mapping) database and Internet Protocol (IP) Peering database using IP. The response to the generated signaling messages are used to determine assignment status, business ownership, businesses versus residential status and the technology employed for a given number in the created panel. In one embodiment, the process is repeated over a period in order to determine changes to the market-share and derivative metrics for the telecommunication market.

  • Patent number: 8055259
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and computer-readable media for generating distance bands on a map to identify areas of outbound roaming on a wireless network are disclosed. A roaming-network event record listing roaming events for subscribers of a home network is received. A home-network event record listing network events on a home network is also received. The two records are correlated to identify roaming events and network events having matching caller identifiers and time stamps within a predetermined range. Location data of a network event is adopted as location data for a matching roaming event. A home-network wireless-communications antenna having a service area in which a concentration of roaming events have occurred is identified. The distance of the roaming events from the antenna is determined and distance bands corresponding to that distance are plotted on a map to aid in identifying locations at which outbound roaming has occurred.

  • Patent number: 7260192
Abstract: Specialized telecom network users who burden the network, such as high-volume users of Internet services, are identified by analysis of network traffic data to identify addresses (e.g. telephone numbers) for callers to destinations associated with the particular call-in service. Destination telephone numbers may be identified from a list of known service providers or from a network traffic study, which identifies destination numbers receiving unique patterns of incoming traffic. Analysis of the records of calls to the destination numbers then identifies numbers for callers who made more than some minimum number of calls during the study or who accumulate more than some threshold amount of total connect time on such calls. The preferred embodiments utilize automated systems to compile and analyze call records from standard messages of a telephone network, such as interoffice signaling messages or automated accounting messages. Data from the records can be translated to identify the calling subscribers, e.g.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing customers with telecommunications intelligence in the form of call management reports. When a call is made to a subscriber of the service provided herein, a call detail record is created using the Telephone Company's Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). Each call that is made to the customer is processed using AIN service logic programs (SLPs). The SLP is invoked by an AIN trigger that is applied to the track telephone number(s) of the customers that subscribe to this service. For each inbound call, the SLP records several pieces of identifying information in a call detail record. Periodically, the AIN application accumulates the call detail records for all customers subscribing to the service. The information is processed to retrieve the desired data from the call detail records, and the data retrieved is used to develop call management reports for each subscriber of the service.

Abstract: A process and apparratus for controlling the generation of statistical information being reported to a user or administration application (43) by a Common Channel Signalling (CCS) protocol stack (41) of a telecommunication node (40). The process involves the use of a Statistics Control File (SCF) file (42) which is located within the protocol stack and which contains a description of the entities, including links and destinations, for which a statistical notification is to be reported to the administration application (43). By modifying the contents of said SCF file contained within the protocol stack via the administration application, the user is given the possibility to precisely define the particular statistical information for which he finds an interest. There is reduced the number of unnecessary statistical information reported back by the protocol stack. The Statistics Control File (SCF) 42 contains a description of the entities complying with the Specification and Description Language (SDL) standard.

Abstract: An apparatus for automatically selecting a telephone service provider that provides a communication service at the most inexpensive fee schedule and a method thereof are disclosed. According to the apparatus and the method, a telephone service provider that provides a communication service at the most inexpensive fee schedule is automatically selected according to the predetermined area, time and provider codes corresponding to a connection signal inputted by the calling part. This effectively provides a telephone service to a user at the lower rate.

  • Patent number: 6404864
Abstract: In some embodiments, the present invention provides a distributed monitoring, evaluation and routing (“DiMER”) system that provides active management of a data-network based telephony networks. Such a system, and data-network-based telephony networks incorporating the same, advantageously route calls to meet call-quality standards and/or cost goals, among other targets. To meet such quality standards, the system periodically obtains call-related data, analyzes the data, and revises call routing, as appropriate, by shifting or reallocating call traffic between available terminating gateways (based on their performance).

  • Patent number: 6385301
Abstract: A monitoring system captures and processes messages from SS7 links, to compile call detail records (CDRs) for all interoffice call attempts. The CDRs are uploaded into a relational database. Automatic Message Accounting (AMA) records also are accumulated and uploaded to another relational database. A data preparation operation enhances the records for further processing. This data preparation operation involves translating information in the records into more useful forms, using external reference data regarding the monitored network. For example, the data preparation translates SS7 point codes or NPA-NXX codes in the records to textual names of originating and terminating offices. The data preparation also spreads the usage information from the records to properly allocate usage time to predefined intervals. Another function of the data preparation stage is to form one or more predefined tables from the processed records, for example a table of modified records and one or more specialized summary tables.
