  • Patent number: 8693982
Abstract: A system manages subscribers' data of mobile telephones in a wireless network. Data servers are located according to geographic service areas, and each of the data servers may store subscribers' data of mobile telephones based on the respective geographic area. Location of subscribers' data is determined depending upon subscribers' ID, to which two or more Mobile telephone Numbers (MTNs) are assigned. Two or more MTNs may have different area codes for which subscribers' data are stored in at least two or more of the data servers. A terminal, for example, receives a user request calling for subscriber's data of a first MTN, retrieves a subscriber's ID corresponding to the first MTN from an Electronic Telephone Number Inventory (eTNI) database and sends a request containing the subscriber's ID. A router determines a first data server corresponding to the retrieved subscriber's ID and routes the request to the first data server.

  • Patent number: 8570906
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a network provider to instantly assign a virtual number to a subscriber to use until their primary number is successfully ported to the VoIP network is disclosed. For example, a virtual number can be a phone number for callers outside a subscriber's local calling area to call the subscriber for the price of a local call if the subscriber chooses a virtual phone number in their local calling area. After the porting of the primary number is successful, the user can be reached by either having callers directly dial the primary number or the previously assigned virtual number. The subscriber can continue to use both phone numbers or choose to disconnect the virtual number and only use the successfully ported primary number.

  • Patent number: 8515488
Abstract: This disclosure generally relates to mobile subscriber identities for mobile devices, and more particularly, to dynamic assignment of International Mobile Subscriber Identities (IMSIs) to reduce roaming and overuse charges. Instead of using a reprogrammable embedded Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card for remote activation of a device, mobile carrier charges, such as roaming and over limit usage fees, can be significantly reduced by reprogramming SIM cards dynamically from a pool of available mobile accounts. A smaller pool can be utilized to meet the needs of a large group, rather than a one-to-one association implemented within today's phones. Resource usage can be tracked and as one account reaches its maximum, a new account can be assigned to the mobile device to prevent overuse charges. Existing FMC concepts can insure single number inbound or outbound caller identification regardless of the name or number associated with the SIM card for the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8213899
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for identifying the carrier to which a phone, such as a mobile phone, subscribes in real time, at the time a call is originating from or terminating to the mobile phone. Where both parties to a call are subscribers to the same carrier, the methods can be used for applying preferential call rates to intra-carrier calls, e.g., making the calls free. The methods are particularly useful in the telephony networks with local number portability, in which the mere identification of the phone number does not necessarily identify the carrier to which the phone subscribes. The methods can use either existing databases to identify the carrier, such as LERG (Local Exchange Routing Guide) tables, number portability databases, name databases, and home location registers, or a new database can be created correlating mobile phone directory numbers with carriers.

  • Patent number: 8180321
Abstract: A method and system for processing a prepaid call in a mobile telecommunications network wherein charges can be recovered for the call after the SCP and Prepaid Platform lose contact with the MSC or GMSC handling the call. A Trigger Detection Point known as “O-Disconnect” or “T-Disconnect” can be armed in a prepaid subscriber's HLR and can be triggered when the MSC/GMSC loses contact with the SCP. The MSC/GMSC can record the time that the TDP was triggered in memory. The MSC/GMSC can then monitor for call disconnect and record the disconnection time in memory. When the call is disconnected the MSC/GMSC can renew contact with the SCP. MSC/GMSC can identify the call using a unique call identifier and advise the SCP of the times at which contact was lost and the call was disconnected. The SCP can use this information to calculate a charge for the portion of the call that occurred after contact with the MSC/GMSC was lost so that the entire call can be charged in near real-time.

Abstract: Passengers on board a vehicle make and receive calls via a satellite network. That network sees each passenger involved in a call as a temporary dummy subscriber of the satellite network. Thus the satellite network is used to manage the roaming of passengers on aircraft. An intermediate network and the terrestrial mobile telephone network therefore do not need to manage the roaming of the aircraft. The terrestrial mobile telephone network sees each node of the intermediate network as a dummy base station and each passenger involved in a call as a dummy mobile subscriber of the terrestrial mobile telephone network, in the service area of one of the dummy base stations. The terrestrial fixed telephone network sees each passenger involved in a call as a subscriber of another fixed network managed by another operator. The intermediate network sees the satellite network as a standard terrestrial mobile telephone network, able to manage the roaming of its subscribers itself.

  • Patent number: 7043229
Abstract: A system and method for determining a tariff for a real-time wireless service such as a prepaid service (PPS) for a wireless telephone call. A Local Number Portability Point (LNPP) provides an interface between service scripts in a Service Control Point (SCP) or application server, and an LNP database. When an Initial Detection Point (IDP) message is received by the service scripts, a query is sent through the LNPP to the LNP database to determine whether the call is made to or from a ported telephone number. If so, a routing number is returned. The scripts determine whether the routing number points to the network operator's own network or another, and notify a Service Data Point (SDP). If the routing number points to the operator's own network, the SDP applies a first tariff to the call. If the routing number points to another network, the SDP applies a second tariff.

  • Patent number: 6807258
Abstract: A method and system for billing remote calls includes the provisioning of an active terminating attempt trigger on a subscriber's primary line. To make a long-distance call from a remote location, the subscriber calls a service control node and provides a destination calling line number and the subscriber's primary line number (e.g., home telephone number). The SCN assembles the data into a string and includes a feature access code. This string is transmitted to a switch that recognizes the feature access code and transmits a message to a service control point. The service control point also recognizes the feature access code and reassembles the message into a call structure containing the primary line number, the destination line number, and a code indicating that the message should be reassembled. This message is transmitted back to the switch which then routes the call to the primary line switch where the trigger is encountered.

Abstract: Telecommunication carriers that provide collect and bill-to-third-party calls face considerable revenue losses due to unbillable, uncollectible, and fraudulent calls. This real-time call validation system reduces the number of unbillable calls by determining when the dialed number has been ported, the originating carrier has no billing relationship with the terminating carrier, or the dialed number belongs to a customer of a switchless reseller, all events that in today's environment would result in an unbillable call. This system also decreases subscriber fraud by identifying in real-time a dialed number's listed name and address and determining whether there are other numbers associated with said name and address and, if so, whether they are associated with a history of fraud, bad debt, or unbillability. • Patent number: 6421438
Abstract: A distributed and scaleable Intelligent Service Network (ISN) architecture provides a global card mobility platform for enabling global card services. An ISN point of presence (POP) or node that comprises a scaleable matrix switching platform and voice call processing systems, is deployed to each country. These are referred to as Local Nodes. Extensive and generally expensive data and support systems are deployed in Regional Hubs, with multiple Local Nodes being connected to a single Regional Hub. This allows an inexpensive and minimized ISN node to be deployed in each country or shared by several countries. The other expensive components of a full-scale ISN are deployed and maintained by a large central company, and are shared by the multiple ISN Local Nodes in the region.

  • Patent number: 6418206
Abstract: A procedure and system for setting rates between two predetermined subscriptions in a telephone network without the necessity of substantial system changes to the telephone network. Calls between two predetermined subscriptions can be rated according to a special tariff and changes can be easily and flexibly included in the normal invoicing. When the number of subscriptions per customer is limited to two, the common call number for all customers is the same, e.g. 020100. When this number is dialed, the call is directed to the wired network subscription specified in the subscriber number pair, which is stored in a database, when the call is made from a mobile station, and vice versa.

  • Publication number: 20020001374
Abstract: A call forwarding system for an AIN telecommunications environment is provided in which a destination has changed from an old telephone number to a new telephone number. A calling party places a call which attempts to contact the destination by dialing the old telephone number. The call forwarding system includes a hub switch, and an old address switch with which the calling party connects to upon dialing the old telephone number. The old address switch, upon recognizing that the calling party has called a telephone number which has been changed, prefixes the old telephone number with a three digit code, and forwards the call, along with the prefixed old telephone number, to the hub switch. The hub switch recognizes the three digit code, and launches an AIN trigger to an AIN platform which determines the new telephone number and whether the destination has elected to pay for forwarding the call to the new telephone number.

  • Patent number: 6327349
Abstract: In a telephone network supporting local number portability, a system and method for assigning a location identifier uses a location routing number to identify the geographic location of a customer. A local carrier assigns a telephone number to a customer. The local carrier then assigns a location routing number to the telephone number. A first portion of the location routing number represents routing information and a second portion represents the location of the customer. The second portion may then be used to determine billing.
