  • Patent number: 11854575
Abstract: A microphone acquires audio data of a user's speech. The audio data is processed to determine sentiment data indicative of perceived emotional content of the speech. For example, the sentiment data may include values for one or more of valence that is based on a particular change in pitch over time or activation that is based on speech pace. A simplified user interface provides the user with a graphical representation based on the sentiment data and associated descriptors. For example, a visual indicator such as a dot may be shown at particular coordinates onscreen that correspond to the sentiment data. Text descriptors may also be presented near the dot. As the user continues speaking, and new audio data is processed, the interface is dynamically updated. The user may use this information to assess their state of mind, facilitate interactions with others, and so forth.

  • Patent number: 6539085
Abstract: For single line telephone service, let red/green denote a pair that is connected to the central office, and yellow/black denote an unused pair, but which also appears at the connections to the subscribers equipment. Any computer or other device that is to be interruptible by an ordinary handset is connected to red/green through a phone service re-allocation circuit that is also connected to, and that monitors, yellow/black. An extension allowed to cause an interrupt is connected to yellow/black. For RJ-11 connections an adapter routes the yellow/black (in the wall) over to the terminals normally used for red/green. An off hook condition of the interrupting equipment connected to the adapter now serves as part of a signal to the re-allocation circuit. Upon a signal, the re-allocation circuit terminates the access of the interruptible equipment to the red/green pair, and bridges the red/green pair to the yellow/black pair instead.

Abstract: A device enables a user to block telephone numbers designated by a caller ID device as “Unavailable”, “Out of Area”, and “Private” numbers. And, specified numbers can be provided in a list and blocked. A user can optionally select actions for the “No Caller ID Call Block” situation. In a first setting the telephone line ring can be suppressed, caller ID data read, and a determination made whether to pass or block the call. In this first case, the block will be performed by the telephone line going off-hook momentarily and back on-hook, such that the call is answered and subsequently disconnected. In a second setting, the block will be performed by the telephone line going off-hook momentarily and back on-hook, such that the call is answered and subsequently disconnected. In a third setting, the telephone line ring will be suppressed, and the block will be performed by suppressing the ring of the telephone for the entire duration of the call attempt.

  • Patent number: 6321094
Abstract: In a network system including a wireless mobile communications system, when establishing a connection between a wireless mobile terminal and a host computer connected to a stationary network system, the wireless mobile terminal produces a connection establishment request signal including first information which is required to obtain services from the host computer and then transmits the connection establishment request signal to the host computer. The host computer verifies the first information included in the connection establishment request signal received from the wireless mobile terminal and transmits a response signal back to the wireless mobile terminal only when the first information has been verified. This causes the connection to be established between the wireless mobile terminal and the host computer.

  • Patent number: 6178236
Abstract: Access is granted to a portion of a computing system, such as to a configuration menu of a telephone system. In order to grant access, a password is received from a user. A variable password is also calculated. The variable password varies with time. For example, the variable password varies with a current date and with a time of day stored by the computing system. The password received from the user is compared with the calculated variable password. When the password received from the user is equal to the calculated variable password, access is granted.

  • Patent number: 5832057
Abstract: Remote telephone coder 10R and local telephone coder 10L provide coding and decoding for voice communication between remote telephone set 11R and local telephone set 11L through telephone line 12. An eavesdropper listening in on a listening device such as remote extension telephone 14R or local extension telephone 14L hears normal "in-the-clear" conversation (uncoded transmissions) when both of the telephone coders are in the normal mode. However, when both of telephone coders 10R and 10L are in the code mode, the extension eavesdropper using an extension telephone or other unauthorized listening device 14 (shown in phantom) hears only coded transmissions. Further, a remote eavesdropper on remote extension telephone set (main portion 17M with hand portion 17H) employing remote extension coder 16R is also excluded from the coded transmissions between remote telephone coder 10R and local telephone coder 10L.
