  • Patent number: 4744160
Abstract: A steam pressing machine comprising a perforated steam platen and means for pre-heating the platen, e.g., an electric heater, is improved by providing it with a source of superheated steam for ejection out of the platen, rather than saturated steam. This allows the use of lower platen temperatures, and, therefore, lower fabric temperatures. Pressing is faster, because the fabric takes less time to cool, and nap-crushing and shining are less of a problem.

  • Patent number: 4427139
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for forming collars, cuffs or like garment subcomponents, which are fabricated by stitching together a plurality of plies, inverting the stitched together plies and then pressing the inverted subcomponent to a desired finished shape. The apparatus and method are characterized by placing the pressed subcomponent, while the same still retains the heat of pressing, on a vacuum apparatus having throughgoing apertures whereby suction is exerted against the undersurface of the plies. As a result of such suction, the plies and any stiffener material interposed between the plies are maintained in a flatwise or other desired shaped condition during the colling process, whereby the desired sharp crease or fold resulting from the pressing operation is retained in the finished subcomponent.

  • Patent number: 4372065
Abstract: A pressing table has a main pressing surface element and a pivotable additional pressing table surface element, and a blower capable of applying suction or blowing action selectively to one or other of the pressing table surface portions. Change over from suction to blowing is achieved by the action of the blower fan discharge air in response to triggering by a solenoid thruster, and the blowing action is held on by the airstream until the blower fan stops. Selection of the additional pressing table surface element for the blowing or suction action is automatic in response to pivoting of the additional element from a rest position to an operative position.

  • Patent number: 4274215
Abstract: A method for processing table and bed linen which embodies no-iron fabrics which may be composed in at least a substantial part of polyester fiber, or may be composed of other fibers which have been treated to provide no-iron characteristics (linen being used in a generic sense rather than to identify the fiber composition). The process includes the sequential steps of laundering the linen, preferably in substantially conventional manner, and then folding the laundered linen in a dry state to provide a stack of multiple layers of the laundered textile fabric, all of the layers being of approximately equal area. The multiple layers of fabric are then finished by compressing the multiple layers in folded state in the presence of heat and moisture, causing steam to flow through the stack of multiple layers, first in one direction and then in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4166331
Abstract: A steam finishing platen having a work surface through which steam and air can pass. The platen includes up-steam piping within a chamber defined by the platen, and a vacuum port to that chamber. A steam damper is movable between a normally open position where the vacuum port is open to a vacuum source, and a closed position where the damper closes the vacuum port when steam is provided to the up-steam piping. A steam piston, located within the platen chamber, is connected by a spring loaded linkage to the steam damper, and is connected by a steam line to the up-steam piping. When steam is provided to the up-steam piping for steaming a fabric workpiece on the platen, the steam actuated piston closes the steam damper, thereby automatically closing the vacuum port to that steam within the platen chamber.

  • Patent number: 3968581
Abstract: A steam presser for finishing garments, etc. The presser comprises a steam-spouting press table, a steam-generating chamber of the heat-plate type disposed under the steam-spouting press table, compressive water-feed valve means mounted on the steam-generating chamber, and waste steam suction means disposed beside the steam-generating chamber. In operation, a necessary amount of water is fed into the steam-generating chamber by means of the compressive water-feed valve means against the steam pressure in the chamber. Steam produced in the steam-generating chamber is spouted out through the mattress of the press table to effect the finish of the materials pressed between the mattress and the cover plate of the press table. The steam suction means further enhances the finishing effect by sucking away the steam permeated into the materials.
