Patent number: 5305384Abstract: An encryption/decryption device, system and method for providing secure communication over a communication channel. The encryption device includes a radio interface unit connected to a conventional radio, wherein the interface unit selectively couples a codec, signal processor and modem to the transmit and receive path during secure operation. The codec digitally encodes non-secure analog signals and places them in pulse code modulated format. The signal processor then compresses the pulse code modulated signals into voice coded and then digitally encrypted NRZ signals which are then input into the conventional radio for modulating a carrier frequency on an occupied bandwidth approved for 15 KHz to 25 KHz, or as little as 11.4 KHz, spaced channels. The modem can input the digitally encrypted signals using modified frequency modulation to place the modified digitally encrypted signals substantially within the voice passband of 300 Hz to 3200 Hz.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1992Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Assignee: Chips International, Inc.Inventors: James C. Patent number: 4908860Abstract: Encoding is realized by means of a first low-pass input filter (21), a first modulator (20), a second low-pass filter (19), a second modulator (18) whose modulating signal has a frequency which is pseudo-random modified in the course of time, which signal is pseudo-random chosen between two signals of different frequencies (45, 46) and an output filter (17). According to the invention a first generator providing two signals is constituted by two phase-locked loop oscillators each having a frequency divider (7, 9) in the loop and both being controlled by the same reference signal generator (3, 4) while the reference signal generator itself is constituted by an oscillator of the same type (3, 4) controlled by the field synchronizing signal of the television transmitter, and this signal as well as the reference signal are applied to a first pseudo-random generator (14) for controlling the instants of change of the modulation signal. Decoding is effected similarly in the reverse order.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1986Date of Patent: March 13, 1990Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Vincent Caprarese, Thierry Chretien, Richard Dauvillier

Patent number: 4841571Abstract: A privacy signal transmission system having a transmitter portion and a receiver portion. The transmitter portion digitizes an analog message signal and enciphers the digitized signal into a privacy signal before modulation and transmission to the receiver portion. The transmitter portion also extracts and modulates an analog error signal representative of the digitization error for transmission to the receiver portion. The receiver portion demodulates the digitized privacy signal and analog error signal, and after the privacy signal is deciphered and reconverted to an analog signal it is added to the received analog error to reconstitute the original analog message signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1983Date of Patent: June 20, 1989Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Kouzou Kage

Patent number: 4653069Abstract: A spread spectrum communication system having a correlation receiver for decoding an information signal transmitted on a pseudo-noise (PN) carrier. The receiver synchronizes to the transmitted signal by performing a continuous sequence of correlations until a correlation output exceeding a predetermined threshold level is detected. Thereafter, the receiver performs a plurality of correlations during a sampling interval which is timed to occur at approximately the time when high subsequent correlation output signals are likely to appear. After enhancement through adaptive filter processing, the correlation outputs generated during each sampling interval are accumulated (integrated and the summed output present at the end of the sampling interval is representative of the transmitted data message (a binary bit). The adaptive filter develops and stores weighting values representing the expected signal strength of the correlation outputs and the actual correlation outputs are multiplied by the weighting values.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1975Date of Patent: March 24, 1987Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Allan W. Patent number: 4652838Abstract: A communications system for conveying information angle-modulated onto a carrier includes a modulator which angle-modulates the data onto the carrier and which also randomly changes the phase of the carrier. Since the carrier phase is randomly changed, an unauthorized receiver or interceptor of the signal who frequency-multiplies the signal and integrates over a long period in order to reconstruct the carrier produces a carrier which has a broader bandwidth and relatively less amplitude than in the case in which the carrier phase is not randomly changed. The probability of intercept and demodulation by the unauthorized receiver is thereby reduced. The authorized receiver frequency-multiplies and integrates for the known frame interval to recover the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1985Date of Patent: March 24, 1987Assignee: RCA CorporationInventor: Edward J.
