Stereo Speaker Arrangement Patents (Class 381/300)
  • Patent number: 9219974
Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a Personal Sound Zone (PSZ) at a location of a listener are provided. An apparatus for simultaneously controlling a near sound field and a far sound field may classify the near sound field and the far sound field based on a distance between an array speaker and a listener, and may control the near sound field and the far sound field and thus, it is possible to perform focusing even when the listener is located in adjacent to the array speaker. Additionally, the apparatus may generate a directive sound source using the array speaker, and at the same time, may reduce a sound pressure in a far field, thereby reducing a sound source spreading to the far field while focusing is performed at the location of the listener.

Abstract: Systems and techniques for determining characteristics to be exhibited by a sound phrase. A user draws traces on an input device indicating characteristics, such as duration and direction, of sounds such as sounds to be captured by a microphone array. In response to the user inputs, signals from the microphone array are processed to produce a signal exhibiting the characteristics. The signal is stored to create a sound phrase, and the sound phrase may later be played. Additional inputs may be received specifying a direction from which the sound phrase is to be played, or playback may come from a default direction. Further inputs may be received during playback to control characteristics of the playback. In addition to specifying characteristics to be imparted to recorded or stored phrases, user inputs may specify characteristics for generated sounds or may specify characteristics to be exhibited by sounds being played.

  • Patent number: 9071897
Abstract: A stereo loudspeaker system with a right channel and a left channel respectively feeding R and L signals to four speakers (including a right main speaker, a right sub-speaker, a left main speaker and a left sub-speaker) includes a transformer that, depending on the frequency, magnetically couples or isolates the two channels at the right and left sub-speakers. At low frequencies, the transformer isolates the right channel from the left one so that the R signal goes primarily only to the two right speakers, and the L signal goes primarily only to the two left ones. At high frequencies, both the right and left main speakers still receive their respective R and L signals; however, the transformer's magnet coupling conveys a differential R-L signal to the right sub-speaker and a differential L-R signal to the left sub-speaker, thereby producing an expanded acoustic image and realistic ambient field.

  • Patent number: 9036841
Abstract: A speaker system includes a first speaker (203) and a second speaker (205). A driving circuit receives an audio signal and has a first drive circuit (209) generating a first drive signal for the first speaker (203) in response to a first filtering of the audio signal with a first passband. A second drive circuit (211) generates a second drive signal for the second speaker (205) in response to a second filtering having a second passband which includes a frequency band below the first passband. A delay (213) delays the second drive signal relative to the first drive signal. The sound from the second speaker is directionally radiated with a directional radiation pattern having a notch towards the listening position (111). The system uses the precedence effect and non-direct low frequency audio radiation to ensure that directional cues are predominantly provided by the first speaker (203) which may be small and positioned remote from the second speaker (205).

Abstract: Techniques for improved audio localization for visual effects are described. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise a processor circuit and an audio management module, and the audio management module may be operable by the processor circuit to determine a position of a user interface element in a presentation area, determine an audio effect corresponding to the user interface element, determine audio location information for the audio effect based on the position of the user interface element, the audio location information defining an apparent position for the audio effect, and generate audio playback information for the audio effect based on the audio location information. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Complimentary crossovers that reduce phase distortion in loudspeaker systems, typically pairs, are described. In the fundamental embodiment, each loudspeaker possesses two drivers, a woofer and a tweeter. The “effective third-order” crossover on the right-hand loudspeaker remains “symmetric,” but the “effective third-order” crossover on the left-hand loudspeaker is rendered “asymmetric,” as described. Other embodiments apply this principle to higher crossover orders and greater numbers of drivers. This technology can be combined with other circuits like a Zobel, typically used for impedance correction. Some configurations of “phase-unified” loudspeakers require that a Zobel is applied to all drivers except the tweeter. Accordingly a rule combining effective crossover order and handedness is established.

The audio playing apparatus comprises an audio generator, a plurality of speakers, a sensor and a controller. The audio generator is operable to generate a left channel audio and a right channel audio. The plurality of speakers are configured such that at least one pair of speakers is symmetrically disposed at a left side and a right side of the flat panel electronic device no matter how the flat panel electronic device is placed. The sensor is operable to detect a placed state of the flat panel electronic device in the installed state. The controller is operable to receive a detecting signal from the sensor so as to control the at least one pair of speakers to play the left channel audio and the right channel audio correspondingly according to the placed state of the flat panel electronic device.
