Patent number: 9135927Abstract: Systems and techniques for determining characteristics to be exhibited by a sound phrase. A user draws traces on an input device indicating characteristics, such as duration and direction, of sounds such as sounds to be captured by a microphone array. The signal is stored to create a sound phrase, and the sound phrase may later be played. Additional inputs may be received specifying a direction from which the sound phrase is to be played, or playback may come from a default direction. Further inputs may be received during playback to control characteristics of the playback. In addition to specifying characteristics to be imparted to recorded or stored phrases, user inputs may specify characteristics for generated sounds or may specify characteristics to be exhibited by sounds being played.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2012Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Assignee: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Arto J. Patent number: 9071897Abstract: A stereo loudspeaker system with a right channel and a left channel respectively feeding R and L signals to four speakers (including a right main speaker, a right sub-speaker, a left main speaker and a left sub-speaker) includes a transformer that, depending on the frequency, magnetically couples or isolates the two channels at the right and left sub-speakers. At low frequencies, the transformer isolates the right channel from the left one so that the R signal goes primarily only to the two right speakers, and the L signal goes primarily only to the two left ones. At high frequencies, both the right and left main speakers still receive their respective R and L signals; however, the transformer's magnet coupling conveys a differential R-L signal to the right sub-speaker and a differential L-R signal to the left sub-speaker, thereby producing an expanded acoustic image and realistic ambient field.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2013Date of Patent: June 30, 2015Inventor: Robert G. Publication number: 20140219480Abstract: Complimentary crossovers that reduce phase distortion in loudspeaker systems, typically pairs, are described. In the fundamental embodiment, each loudspeaker possesses two drivers, a woofer and a tweeter. The “effective third-order” crossover on the right-hand loudspeaker remains “symmetric,” but the “effective third-order” crossover on the left-hand loudspeaker is rendered “asymmetric,” as described. Other embodiments apply this principle to higher crossover orders and greater numbers of drivers. This technology can be combined with other circuits like a Zobel, typically used for impedance correction. Some configurations of “phase-unified” loudspeakers require that a Zobel is applied to all drivers except the tweeter. Accordingly a rule combining effective crossover order and handedness is established.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2013Publication date: August 7, 2014Inventor: William E. Collins

The audio playing apparatus comprises an audio generator, a plurality of speakers, a sensor and a controller. The audio generator is operable to generate a left channel audio and a right channel audio. The plurality of speakers are configured such that at least one pair of speakers is symmetrically disposed at a left side and a right side of the flat panel electronic device no matter how the flat panel electronic device is placed. The sensor is operable to detect a placed state of the flat panel electronic device in the installed state. The controller is operable to receive a detecting signal from the sensor so as to control the at least one pair of speakers to play the left channel audio and the right channel audio correspondingly according to the placed state of the flat panel electronic device.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2013Publication date: August 7, 2014Applicant: Nvidia CorporationInventor: Nvidia Corporation

Publication number: 20140219481Abstract: A multiple sound channels speaker is disclosed herein and includes a first speaker, at least one second speaker, a sensing switch and an audio decoder. The second speaker is adjacent to the first speaker, and the sensing switch is disposed between the first speaker and the second speaker. The audio decoder is electrically connected to the sensing switch. When the second speaker and the first speaker are separated, the sensing switch outputs a signal to the audio decoder and the sound channels are switched.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2013Publication date: August 7, 2014Applicant: GIGA-BYTE TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.Inventor: Yin Yu Lin

Patent number: 8798274Abstract: An acoustic apparatus which outputs test signals from a plurality of speakers configuring a multichannel reproduction system and adjusts acoustic characteristics by picking up response signals from the speakers using a microphone, includes a test signal storage unit storing test signals output from the speakers; a response signal storage unit storing response signals from the speakers picked up by the microphone; a parameter calculation unit calculating acoustic adjustment parameters including at least a polarity reversal parameter and a phase filter parameter based on the response signals from the speakers stored in the response signal storage unit; and an acoustic adjustment parameter storage unit storing the acoustic adjustment parameters calculated by the parameter calculation unit. The parameter calculation unit calculates the polarity reversal parameter using a low-pass component of the response signals.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2012Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Kazuki Sakai, Takashi Kanai

Patent number: 8787585Abstract: A perceptually motivated, frequency domain active matrix decoder and decoding method which decodes N audio input signals to generate M audio output signals, where M is greater than N, including by generating M streams of output frequency components which determine the audio output signals, in response to N streams of input frequency components indicative of the audio input signals, determining power ratios from the input frequency components without use of feedback, including at least one power ratio for each critical frequency band in a set of critical frequency bands, and determining gain control values for each of the critical frequency bands from the power ratios including by shaping the power ratios in nonlinear fashion without use of feedback. An active matrix element is steered using the gain control values.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2010Date of Patent: July 22, 2014Assignee: Dolby Laboratories Licensing CorporationInventor: C.
