  • Publication number: 20120148086
Abstract: A composite speaker is disclosed that can more easily be made thin and small, and is configured so that the assembly process of the speaker is easy. A first space that opens to the rear is formed in a main yoke that forms a magnetic field emitter, and a magnetic gap is formed in the first space. A first voice coil, connected to an inner peripheral end of a first diaphragm whose surface area is large, is inserted into the first magnetic gap toward the front direction. A second space that passes through from front to back is provided in the main yoke, a second magnetic field emitter is mounted therein, and a second diaphragm whose surface area is small is provided in front thereof. Because of the structure in which the second magnetic field emitter is housed within the first magnetic field emitter, the front-to-back dimension of the speaker can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8031902
Abstract: A loudspeaker comprises a diaphragm, an edge operable to support, on a frame, the diaphragm in such a manner that enables vibration thereof, and a voice coil operable to generate a driving force. The voice coil is of an approximate rectangular shape, and a length of a long axis direction of the voice coil is no less than 60% of a length of a long axis direction of the diaphragm. Positions of long sides of the voice coil to be fixed on the diaphragm are positions corresponding to nodes of a primary resonance mode in a short axis direction of the diaphragm, or in the respective vicinities thereof. Accordingly, it is possible to realize a high sound quality loudspeaker having a narrow width (elongated structure), but not easily causing resonance, thereby obtaining a flat frequency characteristic.

Abstract: A multiple magnet dual-gap loudspeaker may generate increased magnetic flux to drive voice coils generating sound from the loudspeaker. The dual-gap dual-voice-coil loudspeaker allows enhanced loudspeaker performance. The dual-gap loudspeaker includes a frame supporting the loudspeaker, at least two voice coils resiliently mounted to the loudspeaker frame by a former, a center support positioned within the voice coils, and at least two magnets. The magnetic flux from each of the magnets is directed within the gaps formed between the center support and the voice coils.

Abstract: An electromagnetic transducer includes an electromagnetic dual-coil or multi-coil driver having at least one spacer member placed between at least two permanent magnets. The inclusion of at least one spacer member increases the axial dimension of the magnetic assembly of the driver so that the magnetic gaps in a dual-coil or multi-coil driver are moved farther apart than would occur with a corresponding electromagnetic driver using a permanent magnet instead of two permanent magnets separated by a spacer member.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a multi-function actuator, in which a voice coil vibrates a sound-generating diaphragm in response to an audio signal. A vibration coil is placed on a central axis coaxial with the voice coil for generating vibration in response to the audio signal or a vibration signal. A vibration unit includes a magnet for generating a magnetic field to both of the voice coil and the vibration coil and a yoke having a predetermined mass. The vibration unit is vertically vibrated by an electromagnetic force produced from at least one of the voice coil and the vibration coil. A switch selectively applies the audio signal to the vibration coil. The multi-function actuator can prevent the vibration of the vibration unit during sound generation in response to user's switch selection.

Abstract: A speaker interconnection block with two voice coils to be driven with separate amplifiers, or to use one amplifier to drive the two voice coils in series or parallel without having to reinterconnect the voice coils. This is achieved by locating the negative voice coil terminals next to each other and the positive voice terminals next to each other on the connection block. When two amplifiers are used to drive the voice coils, the sequence of connections of the amplifiers matches those of the voice coils mentioned above. When only one amplifier is used, that amplifier is connected between the two amplifier terminals farthest from each other. To connect the voice coils in series a single jumper is used to interconnect the two terminals in the center, and for parallel connection two jumpers are used to connect to two terminals at the ends of the sequence together separately.

Abstract: Ring magnets (5) are concentrically placed with certain spacings (6) on a magnetic frame (4). The magnetic members on the magnets (5) are removed, and the magnets are arranged so that the polarities of adjacent magnets (5)are alternately opposite to each other, thus forming a magnetic circuit. Ribs (7) are provided to a planar vibrating plate (1) and a voice coil (2) fabricated by vertically stacking conductive wires annularly is attached to the planar vibrating plate (1). The planar vibrating plate (1) is secured to a frame (4) through a gasket (3). The voice coil (2) is inserted into magnetic gaps of spacings (6). Since no magnetic body is placed over the magnets (5), the height of the magnetic circuit can be low, and an increase of the reactance due to provision of the magnetic body of the voice coil (2) does not occur. Since the rigidity of the planar vibrating plate (1) is high, it is unnecessary to secure the planar vibrating plate (1) to the frame (4) while applying a tension.

Abstract: A multiple voice-coil cone-driver for driving a loudspeaker includes a first voice-coil, and a second voice-coil coupled in parallel to the first voice-coil. Together, the first and second voice-coils in parallel are characterized by a baseline frequency response with an upper threshold frequency. In addition, at least one additional voice-coil (e.g., a third voice-coil) is coupled in parallel to the first and second voice-coils. The additional voice-coil(s), in conjunction with the first and second voice-coils, provide an enhanced frequency response in comparison to the baseline frequency response. One aspect of the enhanced frequency response is that it has an extended upper threshold frequency compared to the baseline frequency response, providing for more accurate reproduction of music and speech from a single speaker.

Abstract: An electromagnetic transducer such as an audio speaker, having an improved geometry in the positioning of its voice coils relative to its magnetic air gaps, facilitating a greater linear travel. The transducer has a push-pull geometry with at least two voice coils. At all positions throughout the linear travel region, less than 100% of the total voice coil windings are active, and less than 100% of the total available magnetic air gap height is active. As the voice coil assembly moves in one direction, the percentage of active windings or magnetic air gap is seamlessly handed off from the upper voice coil or magnetic air gap to the lower voice coil or magnetic air gap, and vice versa in the opposite direction. Some of the available voice coil windings and some of the available magnetic air gap height are left unused throughout the linear travel region, but, in exchange, the distance of the linear travel is dramatically increased.
