Abstract: A method of data compression in which the total size of the compressed data is determined and based on that determination, the bit depth of the input data may be reduced before the data is compressed. The bit depth that is used may be determined by comparing the calculated total size to one or more pre-defined threshold values to generate a mapping parameter. Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining clusters for large collections of content items. A fast cluster-identifying algorithm can be used to find high density areas where certain less interesting content items might be clustered in a feature space. An example algorithm is a mean shift algorithm. Once these high-density clusters are located, a system can remove them and proceed to analyze the remaining data. Removing these clusters of featureless content items can greatly reduce the collection size and also enhance the overall quality of the collection. Labels can then be applied to clusters and, when a content item is received, classification algorithms can be used to assign an appropriate label to the content item.

Abstract: Disclosed are devices, systems and methods for providing efficient implementations for pattern recognition. Embodiments of the disclosed technology use local binary comparisons and random projection in place of conventional convolution operations. Some embodiments of the disclosed technology provide an important means to improve memory and speed efficiency that is particularly suited for small footprint devices and hardware accelerators. Other embodiments compare a binary pattern to one or more portions of an input image to determine a plurality of binary results, and generate an estimate of the feature based on the plurality of binary results. Yet other embodiments generate an final image, comprising a final estimate of the feature, by randomly selecting one or more portions from each of a plurality of initial images, wherein each of the plurality of initial images comprises an initial estimate of the feature.

Abstract: A spectrometer includes a spectrogram, digital camera and signal processing to compensate for limits of system spatial resolution, spatial distortions and lack of precision spatial registration, limited dynamic range, The spectrogram is captured by a digital camera, and the corresponding image is converted to a wavelength and magnitude with mitigation of optical point spread function and potential magnitude clipping due to over-exposure. The clipped portions of the signal are reconstructed using tangential adjacent point spread functions as a reference or adjacent channel ratios as reference. Multichannel camera detectors having unique response magnitude ratios per wavelength are exploited to make associated direct mappings, thereby making improvements in wavelength resolution and accuracy to up to at least one to two orders of magnitude.
