  • Patent number: 11847757
Abstract: A system and method for lean ortho correction for computer models of structures. The system displays an image of a structure on a user interface and projects a structure model onto the image. Next, the system identifies a first world three-dimensional (“3D”) point in the image, a second world 3D point in the image, and a third world 3D point in the image. The system then transforms coordinates of the structure model using the first world 3D point, the second world 3D point, the third world 3D point, and a lean ortho correction algorithm.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for displaying surfaces of an object from a vantage point different from the vantage point from which imagery of the object was captured. In some aspects, imagery may be generated for display by combining visual characteristics from multiple source images and applying greater weight to the visual characteristics of some of the source images relative to the other source images. The weight may be based on the orientation of the surface relative to the location from which the image was captured and the location from which the object will be displayed.

  • Patent number: 11295182
Abstract: A method for template matching can include iteratively selecting a template set of points to project over a centerline of a candidate symbol; conducting a template matching analysis; assigning a score to each template set; and selecting a template set with a highest assigned score. For example, the score can depend on proximity of the template points to a center and/or boundaries of a principal tracing path of the symbol. Additionally, one or more template sets having a top rank can be selected for a secondary analysis of proximity of the template points to a boundary of a printing of the symbol. The method can further include using the template with the highest score to interpret the candidate symbol.

Abstract: A visual quality assessment method and system are based on deriving a quality metric by comparing sub-band approximations of a distorted image and an undistorted version of the same image, providing a good compromise between computational complexity and accuracy. The sub-band approximations are derived from Discrete Wavelet (Haar) transforms of small image blocks of each image. Due to inherent symmetries, the wavelet transform is “blind” to certain types of distortions. But the accuracy of the method is enhanced, and the blindness of the transform is overcome, by computing quality metrics for the distorted image as well as computing quality metrics for a shifted version of the distorted image and combining the results.

The method is useful for generating data for use in various processes concerned with fingerprints and particularly avoids the need to manually generate and collect such data. The method includes obtaining a plurality of representations from an individual, the representations being subject to different distortions relative to one another. A function, such as a thin plate spline function, is then used to describe the effects of the different distortions on the plurality of representations obtained. This generic model of the effects of distortion can then be used to generate distortions for a further representation from an individual, preferably another individual. The simulated distorted representations can be used in a variety of ways.

  • Patent number: 8902306
Abstract: An image processing device determines the degree of activity of a cell during cell viewing. An imaging device captures first and second images of a cell under observation. After aligning the rotational angle orientations on the image plane of the cell under observation that is included in the images, a correlation value or difference of intracellular texture feature values in the first image and second image, is sequentially computed. A time series variation of the computed correlation value or difference is then derived, and the degree of activity of the cell under observation is detected based on the state of variation.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for identifying an image based on Embedded Media Marker (EMM) identification. A hierarchal comparison including a first coarse comparison and a second refining comparison is used. The first coarse comparison compares an image with an EMM to images in a database at a low resolution. The results are fed to the second refining comparison, which conducts a comparison at a higher resolution than the first coarse comparison. By utilizing this hierarchical comparison approach, it is possible to identify the image with fewer false positives.

  • Patent number: 8805088
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate generally to determine specularity of an object. As an example an object or area of geometry may be selected. A set of images that include the area of geometry may be captured. This set of images may be filtered to remove images that do not show the area of geometry well, such as if the area is in a shadow or occluded by another object. A set of intensity values for the area are determined for each image. A set of angle values for each image is determined based on at least a direction of a camera that captured the particular image when the particular image was captured. The set of average intensities and the set of angle values are paired and fit to a curve. The specularity of the area may then be classified based on at least the fit.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of fast image matching that includes the steps as follows. A template image with a predetermined angular orientation is compared with template images in the range from 0 to 360 degrees to create an angle prediction table. Next, a testing image is acquired and compared with the template image with the predetermined angular orientation to record the similarity at each position, and a plurality of angles corresponding to the similarity is found from the angle prediction table. Afterwards, the template images of the plurality of angles are respectively compared with the testing image to obtain the highest similarity as a comparison result of the position.
