Self-closing Type Patents (Class 383/43)
  • Patent number: 6612741
Abstract: A new sandbag that has a spring-like collar attached to the inside of the sandbag's mouth that forces the mouth closed. In order to fill the bag with sand the flaps that form the mouth have to be pulled apart. The self-closing feature of this sandbag can be used to automate sandbagging by having the bags packaged with one mouth flap in the open position. As the bags are removed from the stack, roll or similar packaging, the mouth flap clamps around the open-end of the source of sand, which can be similar to a funnel. After the bags are filled, they are removed, sealed shut and the next bag is put in place. The self-closing feature of this sandbag first allows for the sand to be guided into the bag, and then forces the mouth of the bag to close. The mouth can be further secured by a sealing means such as staples, thread or fiber, or hook-and-loop fastening surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6585415
Abstract: The bag is made from a polyethylene sheet and has a mouth with at least one sheath along its edge, the sheath containing an inextensible ribbon which is graspable from outside through a hole cut in the sheath, in order to close the bag after filling. An elastically extensible ribbon is fastened at its opposite ends to the material of the bag. When the bag is received in a rigid bin with its upper margin overturned over the bin rim, the elastic ribbon is pulled radially, looped and released around the overturn of the bag to clamp it around the bin.

  • Patent number: 6550635
Abstract: A portable folded wiper dispensing system for dispensing flexible sheets from a stack of sheets. The system includes a refillable apparatus and a stack of sheets. The refillable apparatus is composed of: 1) a relatively flat, flexible base devoid of dispensing slots, the flexible base being adapted to resiliently fold along a fold axis; and 2) a flexible cover defining an opening aligned in parallel relation to the fold axis of the flexible base such that the flexible cover is attached to said flexible base and is adapted to contain a stack of sheets. The opening defines a dispensing slot through which flexible sheets may be individually dispensed while the flexible base remains unfolded. When the flexible base is folded back along the fold axis, the opening defines a refill gap through which a stack of flexible sheets may be inserted.

  • Patent number: 6510261
Abstract: An acousto-optic filter includes an optical fiber with a first region and a second region. A first acoustic wave generator is coupled to optical fiber. The first acoustic wave generator produces a first acoustic wave that travels in a first direction in the first region. A backward-propagating wave is generated in response to propagation of the first acoustic wave along the optical fiber. The backward-propagating wave travels in an opposite direction relative to the first acoustic wave. A first acoustic wave propagation member is coupled to the optical fiber. A second acoustic wave generator is coupled to the optical fiber at the second region. The second acoustic wave generator produces a second acoustic wave that combines with the backward propagating acoustic wave.

  • Patent number: 6328191
Abstract: A storage assembly for a vehicle including an outer panel having a lower portion and an upper portion, and a closure device. The lower portion of the outer panel is attachable to an inner panel to define a storage pocket. The upper portion is deflectable from the inner panel to define an aperture of the storage pocket. The closure device has an arcuate shape and a convex side. The closure device is fastened to the upper portion of the outer panel with the convex side facing the inner panel such that the closure device urges the upper portion against the inner panel. This force by the closure device helps define the closed position as the “normal” or “relaxed” position of the storage assembly. The force of the closure device can be overcome by a user of the storage assembly to move the outer panel into an open position, which would allow insertion or removal of objects from the storage pocket.

  • Patent number: 6196543
Abstract: A board game bag is made of non-transparent flexible material and includes a main body and a mouth. An elastic member is disposed within the mouth, allowing the mouth to open when the elastic member is stretched and causing the mouth to partially close when the elastic member is allowed to relax. The board game bag is designed to hold game pieces to be drawn during game play. To this end, the board game bag is placed in a cylindrical plastic sleeve that provides support for the bag so that the bag is held upright as players draw game pieces from the bag. Following game play, all game pieces placed on the board are easily removed from the board by stretching the mouth of the bag over all four corners of the game board and flipping the board over, thus causing the game pieces to fall into the bag. The mouth of the bag is then removed from the four corners of the board and the elastic member causes the mouth of the bag to constrict.

  • Patent number: 6126315
Abstract: A liquid container having a stable shape that is easy to fill and that enables the user to pour out liquid to the last drop into an intended target using one hand only and without spilling the liquid. An internal space of a container is defined by a front surface portion, a rear surface portion having the shape identical with the front surface portion, and a pair of gussets each connecting together each confronting edges of the front and rear surface portions. The gusset has a folded arrangement. If liquid is filled in the container, V-shape of the gusset expands to provide a three dimensional container. The gussets extend to a neck portion. By the expansion of the gussets, a spout has a sufficient open area capable of controlled pouring of the liquid therethrough. If the liquid amount in the container is reduced, the spout is automatically closed when the container is self-standing on a table.

One portion of each of the two sidewalls is not joined with the opposing sidewall so as to form a bladder with an opening along one portion thereof. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the sidewalls of the bladder form a body, and a neck which extends beyond the unattached portions of the sidewalls. An opening is formed in a neck which extends from the body. The neck is open at opposing ends to thereby provide a conduit for placing fluids into the containment area of the body. To close the conduit formed by the neck portion, the neck portion is rolled toward the body. • Patent number: 5289960
Abstract: Two semi-oval pieces of fabric form an elastic pouch attached to a nylon belt. Both end's of the nylon belt are attached to a male and female buckle that secure the belt around the participant's waist. To accommodate different waist sizes, the length can be increased and decreased through a three strand adjustor. The fabric's stretchability allows it to expand and decrease in order to hold one to three tennis balls without falling out of the pouch. When the Ball Belt is not in use, it's flexible construction can be rolled-up, folded or used as a case to carry the tennis balls in.

  • Patent number: 5176452
Abstract: A self-closing bag is disclosed as having front and rear sidewalls which are interconnected at their side edges and top and bottom. A spring strip holder in the form of a longitudinal slot extends from near a top edge to near a bottom edge of the bag on at least one of the front and rear sidewalls. The holder is designed to accept a self-rolling spring strip which has a concave top surface and convex bottom surface. The spring strip has the property of remaining straight when unrolled but self-rolling when it is slightly bent from its straight condition. The spring strip when provided in the bag serves to roll the top of the bag down to seal the bag once it is opened. When the bag is reopened, the user may straighten the spring strip again to thereby hold the bag in its opened condition.

  • Patent number: 5120138
Abstract: A bag and liner, wherein the bag is maintained open by an attached elastic band. Preferably, the elastic is placed on either side of at least one gusset fold(s) in an untensioned state, so as to bridge the gusset. When the bag top is folded over a container rim, the elastic is stretched on the outside of the container. This placement permits the bag to be folded flat while providing a means to keep the bag open during use. The elastic is useful as a closure after use.

  • Patent number: 4989656
Abstract: The present invention is a shoulder bag having a pouch made of flexible material that, once closed, will remain closed even if substantial weight is carried in the pouch. The construction of the pouch consists of joining together two substantially similar panels of flexible material to form a pouch with closed side and bottom edges and an open top edge. A shoulder strap is attached to the pouch near of the top of each said edge. If the panels of flexible material conform in size and shape to the present disclosure, the opening in the pouch will remain closed while the bag is in use.
