Abstract: A locking bag includes an envelope with a single opening defined between a pair of side wall edges. A pair of plastic zipper portions are disposed on opposite sides of the single pair of side wall edges. A zipper closure clip is slidably attached to the single pair of side wall edges at one corner of the opening of the bag. The zipper closure clip is adapted to clamp the two portions of the plastic zipper together when the zipper closure clip is slid along the opening of the bag. The two plastic zipper portions include suitable means to make the closing of the opening permanent. In one embodiment, the zipper closure is removable from the bag after the bag is permanently closed.

Abstract: A reclosable flexible package includes a reclosure having flanges joined at their upper ends to interlockable fastener tracks. The lower ends of the reclosure flanges are joined together with one of the reclosure flanges being joined to a side panel of the flexible package by a peel seal.

Abstract: The present invention provides a bag having closure strips and a slider, and including a marker strip for preventing manipulation of the slider prior to the marker strip being ruptured, wherein said marker strip is formed integrally with a wall of the bag and includes a single-use adhesive zone designed to fix it in its in-use position on the opposite wall of the bag.

Abstract: The reclosable bag has a gusset side structure so that the bag can be self-supporting on its bottom surface. The reclosable structure can be an internal structure or an external structure. As an external structure the front and rear walls extend above the reclosable seal and are bonded together above the reclosable seal. This extended wall structure is removed to remove these tamper evident seal. If within the bag the tamper evident seal is composed of a loop of film extending downward from each side of the reclosable seal to seal the contents of the bag. This loop must be broken to open the bag. The preferred reclosable seal is a zipper with bonded stays or each end to maintain the zipper on the bag. The bag has diagonal seals at the lower corners for forming a flat bottom to the bag and at the upper corners to provide vents for pressure equalization. The bags are made by a process where all processing is on line except for forming the zipper which is constructed off-line.

Abstract: A reclosable fastener assembly (10) for use in the manufacture of a plastic bag (30). The fastener assembly (10) includes a zipper (18) with a seal feature on a web flange (24) extending from an interlocking member (26) of a profile (28) of the zipper (18). The web flange (24) is bent at a lower portion of the web flange (24) upward to the interlocking member (26). At the lower portion, an interior face (32) of the web flange (24) is sealed to an opposite interior face (33) to form a flange seal (31). The bend (35) of the lower portion includes a weakness area (34) which, in concert with the flange seal (31), acts as a barrier and a tamper-evident feature. After the flange seal (31) is initially tom open, the weakness area (34) may be torn open to access the plastic bag (30). A method for making a reclosable plastic bag (30) is also disclosed.

Abstract: A reclosable bag has opposing broad face panels defining a volume therebetween for holding a quantity of contents, an end of the body forming an expandable gusset between the broad face panels, and a reclosable bag closure between the expandable gusset and a corresponding edge region of one of the broad face panels. When the closure is opened, a bag opening is formed between the expandable gusset and said one of the broad face panels of the bag, to access the bag contents. In one example, the bag has upper and lower expandable gussets, while in another the bag has expandable side gussets. The closure is readily closed without precise alignment and despite the adjacent gusset.

Abstract: The present invention relates an improved slider zipper assembly with a diaphragm for flexible packages comprising: zipper profile consisting of male element and a female element, said profile having flaps on single side, said male element having at least a pair of notches, which could be coupled to corresponding notches on female elements, a slider to close said zipper profile, and a diaphragm of at least one film sealed between said flaps to seal and make the package tamper proof and act as a barrier wherein the improvement resides in the diaphragm having a score line effected using means for scribing for making it easier and more convenient for the user to tear open and access the contents of the package.

Abstract: A zipper strip for a reclosable bag or package includes a male interlocking profile and a female interlocking profile. The male interlocking profile includes a male interlocking member and a male web coextruded therewith. In like manner, the female interlocking profile includes a female interlocking member and a female web. The male interlocking member snappingly engages into the female interlocking member to join the profiles to one another. One of the male and female webs is wider than the other in at least one of two directions from the male and female interlocking members, the greater width being represented by at least one flange extending widthwise beyond the other web. The zipper strip is designed to be attached to thermoplastic sheet material by sealing the at least one flange thereto without sealing the male and female webs to each other. Methods for securing the zipper strip to thermoplastic sheet material, and for making packages on a horizontal form-fill-and-seal machine, are also disclosed.

Abstract: A tamper-evident reclosable bag having a pull tab feature that facilitates opening of a header by a consumer. The pull tab feature is provided by an offset between the top and bottom webs (or front and rear walls) of the package. One web has a cutout while the other web has a portion that overlaps the cutout. The offset provides a simple means for the consumer to grasp only one of the webs of the package and then pull the webs apart or peel the offset web away from the cutout web. The peeled-away layer can be provided with a line of weakened tear resistance, allowing a section of the header to, at the same time, be torn off the package. After the tamper-evident seal provided by the header is broken, the consumer can open the zipper, gaining access to the contents of the package.

Abstract: A side-gusseted bag having a slider-operated zipper. The zipper parts are joined only at one end, the free ends of the zipper parts being separable to allow the associated side gusset of the bag to be inverted to form a pouring spout. The zipper flanges at the joined ends of the zipper are inserted in a corner formed by one gusset panel and an opposing portion of the bag wall. The other gusset panel is sealed to the other bag wall at the elevation of the zipper flanges.

Abstract: A fastener tape for use in the manufacture of reclosable plastic bags is provided. The fastener tape comprises an intermediate layer and a reclosable fastener profile thereon. The intermediate layer includes three layers of co-extruded plastic, with not more than 4% EVA as the outer two layers and HDPE as the middle layer. The intermediate layer is folded so as to bring portions of the intermediate layer into an opposing relationship. These opposing portions are then sealed together by a pair of seal bars. By carefully controlling the sealing temperature, a consistent peel seal is created between the opposing portions of the intermediate layer without the need for an adhesive.

Then, the end of the tube body through which product is filled can be closed and sealed to provide a bag filled with product. The method can include forming a tube body and connecting a combination fin member, zipper track, and zipper block to the bag seal zone.

The gusset comprises first and second panels connected at a fold line. The zipper comprises first and second zipper portions respectively joined to the first and second gusset panels. In one embodiment, the zipper portions are connected by a fold line situated adjacent the gusset fold line. In another embodiment, the zipper portions are connected by a fold line situated away from the gusset. In a third embodiment, the zipper portions are not connected prior to opening the package along the gusset fold line. A peel seal is placed between the zipper portions and above the interlocked profiled closure elements of the zipper.

Abstract: A reclosable package comprises first and second opposing body panels, a reclosable seal and a one-time breakable element. The reclosable seal extends along one end and includes first track and second tracks. The first track includes a first fin portion and a first reclosable element. The first fin portion has a first end and a second end that is further from the first reclosable element. The one-time breakable element comprises first and second sections and initially extends from the first fin portion to the second fin portion. Each of the first and second sections extends upwardly and inwardly from near the respective second ends of the first and second fin portions so as to form a generally inverted U-shaped or V-shaped cross-sectional configuration. The first and second opposing body panels are attached to respective first and second sections of the one-time breakable element.

Abstract: A reclosable vacuum storage bag having a zipper that can be hermetically sealed after the zipper is closed and before the bag is evacuated. The hermetic seal can be provided by means of a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on one of the two zipper strips or by means of a pair of cohesive coatings on confronting portions of the respective zipper strips. The coating or coatings run the entire length of the bag mouth.

A reclosable zipper extending along a mouth portion formed opposite the sealed bottom of the plastic bag. The zipper is preferably free of graspable upper pull flanges in order to best accommodate a slider and inhibit operation of the zipper without the slider. The slider is mounted to the zipper for movement between a closed position and an open position. The zipper is closed while the slider is in the closed position. The zipper is opened in response to movement of the slider to the open position. To inhibit tampering with the contents of the bag, the bag includes a tamper-evident feature. In one set of embodiments, the tamper-evident feature initially maintains the slider in the closed position and allows the slider to move away from the closed position toward the open position in response to removing or breaking the tamper-evident feature.

Abstract: A resealable package having a slider-operated zipper wherein the contents of the package are accessed through the front wall of the package, not through the top of the package. The resealable package comprises: a bag body comprising front and rear walls of bag making material; a flexible zipper joined to the front wall and not joined to the rear wall; and a slider mounted to the zipper, the slider being movable in a first direction along the zipper for opening the zipper and movable in a second direction along the zipper for closing the zipper. Alternatively, the flexible zipper is joined to the front wall along first and second zones of joinder disposed at different heights on the front wall, and is joined to the rear wall only in zones of joinder where the zipper is joined to both of the front and rear walls.

The invention further relates to re-closable containers including the same. The closure comprises at least two elongated male units disposed a gap apart on the outer surface of one wall of the container and at least two corresponding elongated female units disposed a gap apart on the outer surface of an opposite wall of the container opposite the male units, forming at least two male-female pairs.

Abstract: A flexible package is provided with a shrouded slide fastener closure. The shroud includes an opening for the slide, extending to a line of weakness joining the shroud to the remainder of the flexible package. The opening includes an acute angle portion communicating with the line of weakness to facilitate tearing of the shroud from the flexible package.

Abstract: A package having a reclosable pour spout is disclosed, with the package including front and rear package panels which may be joined at respective side edges thereof by inwardly extending side gussets. An upper edge portion of the package is removable, including one of the side gussets, to form a pour spout for dispensing the contents of the package. A fastener strip, which can be detachably connected to itself, extends between confronting inside surfaces of the front and rear package panels, adjacent to the pour spout, whereby the pour spout can be conveniently closed after the package is initially opened. A method of forming the present package is also disclosed.

Abstract: A package having two or more compartments, adjacent compartments being seperated by a peel seal tape. A peel seal is formed by joining peel seal material coated on one surface of a substrate to one package wall, the other surface being coated with sealant material for hard sealing the substrate to the package wall. The substrate and coatings are formed by extrusion. The adjacent compartments of the package are filled with different materials. When one compartment is squeezed with sufficient pressure, that pressure breaks open the peel seal, allowing the respective contents of the two compartments to be mixed without removing the contents from the still externally sealed package.

Abstract: A reclosable plastic bag includes two panels sealed to form a container having a bottom and an openable top. The plastic bag further includes lips that are adjacent to the openable top and which are initially joined to one another by a removable element. The removable element when attached indicates that the bag has not yet been used. When the removable element is no longer attached this indicates that the bag may have been used (contaminated). The reclosable plastic bag also includes a closure element for sealing and unsealing the openable top of the bag.

Abstract: A reclosable package having a slider-operated zipper wherein the contents of the package are accessed through the front wall of the package, not through the top of the package. The reclosable package comprises: a bag body comprising front and rear walls of bag making material; a flexible zipper joined to the front wall and not joined to the rear wall; and a slider mounted to the zipper, the slider being movable in a first direction along the zipper for opening the zipper and movable in a second direction along the zipper for closing the zipper. Alternatively, the flexible zipper is joined to the front wall along first and second zones of joinder disposed at different heights on the front wall, and is joined to the rear wall only in zones of joinder where the zipper is joined to both of the front and rear walls.

Abstract: A plastics bag has at least one seal (34, 36) extending parallel to the mouth of the bag to close the sides. Preferably, a reclosable zipper seal (36) is provided below a top seal (34). A novel tag is provided, secured to the zipper seal (36) and extending through the top seal (34). The tag (11) is generally M-shaped in cross-section with its outside legs secured to the seals and with an inner tuck which the consumer can withdraw from the mouth of the bag and break open to make an access hole through the seal or seals into the interior of the bag to facilitate full opening of the mouth of the bag. Methods of manufacturing such bags are also described, particularly for use with form-fill-seal machines.

Abstract: A flexible package is provided with a shrouded slider fastener closure. The slider traverses fastener tracks which extend across the width of the flexible package, including side seals which form the side margins of the package. The film forming the front and real panels of the flexible package extends over and above the fastener tracks and slider, forming an upper shroud portion. A line of weakness is formed in the plastic film below the fastener tracks and a cut line immediately adjacent a side seal of the flexible package intersects the line of weakness so as to propagate a tear opening thereto. The cut line either extends to the side edge of the flexible package or an opening in the form of a tear notch, for example, is located in the side seal to initiate tearing with propagation to the cut line. In this manner, tension relief is provided for the plastic film while allowing the slider to remain substantially enclosed.

Abstract: A reclosable package comprises a receptacle and a header that communicate via a mouth, and a slider-zipper assembly disposed in the mouth, the slider being exposed when a first portion of the header is removed. The header further comprises second and third portions having respective states of tension that will cause the second and third portions of the header to curl or bend away from the slider when the first portion of the header is removed, for example, by tearing or cutting. The second and third portions of the header curl or bend in opposite directions to allow easy access to the slider by the consumer. In a method of manufacture, the second and third portions of the header are heat treated to produce differential shrink tension states. Alternatively, the header material can be a thermoplastic laminate film in which the layers have different shrink tension states.

Abstract: A method for sealing a zipper assembly to bag making film at three or more points. The zipper assembly comprises a short zipper flange and a long zipper flange. The short flange is joined to one wall of the package while the long flange is joined to both walls of the package to define a product space in which the product is contained. Both the short and long zipper flanges are sealed to the bag making film at a first sealing station prior to folding of the film. After folding, the long zipper flange is sealed at one or more zones of joinder to the other side of the folded film. If the zipper assembly is attached in proximity to the fold line, then the second sealing operation is performed before filling and the bag is filled through the package bottom. If the zipper assembly is attached near the edge of the web of bag making film, then the second sealing operation is performed after the filling operation.

The storage of the preformed sealant formulation under cold conditions arrests the activity of cure catalysts and accelerators mixed therethrough. A release film is provided to avoid contact with the preformed sealant during application to a substrate. The preformed sealant is particularly well suited for use in aerospace applications.

Abstract: A tamper evident package has a first wall and a second wall facing the first wall. A zipper is provided at a top of the package. The first and second walls include portions that extend over the zipper and the first wall extension portion has a line of weakness that extends parallel to the zipper. A peel seal joins the first wall and the second wall above the interlocking members of the profiles and sections of the first and second walls extend beyond the peel seal. If the zipper has a slider, a pocket is formed in one of the walls to accommodate the slider. The slider pocket extends parallel to the zipper. Abstract: Methods for forming a thermoplastic film with an attached closure strip are disclosed. The film can be used to produce zippered reclosable plastic bags. The methods include providing a thermoplastic film web having a sealing surface and a closure strip having a binding surface, both being in a non-melted condition. The film web and the closure strip are aligned in non-overlapping relationship and a heated thermoplastic binder layer is positioned on the film web sealing surface and on the closure strip binding surface quickly after extrusion. The hot binder layer transfers enough heat to the closure strip and to the film web to melt the closure strip binding surface and the film web sealing surface. Pressure is applied to seal the closure strip to the film web. An apparatus for practicing the method and a reclosable bag formed from the thermoplastic film with attached closure strips are also disclosed.

The zipper includes first and second mating profiles, each having an upper flange. A slider device is constructed and arranged for mounting on the zipper and for interlocking the first mating profile with the second mating profile when the slider device is moved in one direction, and disengaging the first mating profile from the second mating profile when the slider device is moved in another opposite direction. A tamper evident seal attaches the upper flanges of the first and second profiles together and extends through a passageway formed through the slider device.

The zipper is installed in the mouth of a reclosable package or bag made of gas-impermeable material shaped to form a receptacle. The gas-impermeable web material of the receptacle and the layer of gas-impermeable material of the zipper form a substantially gastight enclosure for preserving the perishable contents of the package. Flexible zippers having a layer of gas-impermeable thermoplastic material joined to a layer of gas-permeable thermoplastic material are preferably manufactured by a coextrusion process. The resulting gas barrier inside the receptacle has a zone of preferential tearing.
