Abstract: A child-resistant resealable container comprising a closure strip assembly having first and second lateral interlocking members. The first lateral interlocking member is attached to a first extension strip, and the second lateral interlocking member is attached to a second extension strip. The first and second extension strips are attached to the interior surfaces of the respective first and second walls below the top edge of the first and second walls such that a portion of the first and second walls extends to define first and second flaps. The first and second lateral interlocking members are configured to become disengaged from each other when the first flap and the second flap are pulled apart from each other as the first flap is gripped while the first extension strip is not gripped and the second flap is gripped while the second extension strip is not gripped.

Abstract: The present invention provides a protective cover for a baby carrier ring and a set thereof. The protective cover is a pocket formed from a pair of washable shields having at least one fastener. The fabric pockets are conformable around baby carrier rings. Each pocket is removably attachable to a baby carrier ring with the fastener. The washable material of the pocket protects the ring from damage while, for example, washing, drying, storing, and shipping the baby carrier.

Abstract: There is provided a biogas flux chamber constructed in one embodiment from a metal can with an open bottom and an epoxy interior coating. The chamber is inserted into the soil to allow influx of soil gases. The lid includes a sampling septum and a vent tube to prevent pressure build-up when the lid is in place which allows for an increase in interior gas concentrations. The rubber sampling septum is installed in a hole in the lid. The vent tube is constructed using flexible copper tubing inserted through the lid and secured using a bulkhead-fitting, and rubber O-ring to seal the insertion hole. The copper tubing is bent to form a double-curved ‘C’ shape which positions the open ends of the tube above and below the lid surfaces.

Abstract: A method is described for making a retort container having one or two metal ends. A heat-sealable material is present on one or both of the container side wall and the/each metal end. The/each metal end is seamed onto the container body, and the resulting container assembly is conveyed on a conveyor adjacent to an induction sealing head and then adjacent to a cooling device. A pressure belt engages the upper end of the container assembly to keep the metal end from coming off the container body during the induction heating and cooling processes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a side gusset bag (1) for packaging a product, with a front bag wall (2), with a rear bag wall (3), with a lower bag end (5) forming a bottom (4), with an upper bag end (6) distant from the lower bag end (5) in vertical direction (V), which upper bag end comprises a bag opening (8) closable by a closure (7), with at least one side gusset (9) extending from the bottom (4) in vertical direction (V), the side gusset connecting the front bag wall (2) with the rear bag wall (3) and forming a side gusset opening (11) at its upper end (10) which faces the upper bag end (6), and with an air-permeable covering tape (12), which covers the entire side gusset opening (11) of the at least one side gusset (9). In order to reduce the risk of oxygen and moisture penetrating into the bag, the invention proposes that at least one first section (13) of the side gusset opening (11) is sealed in an air-tight manner.

Abstract: An all-in-one gift bag with decorative closure built in to the bag is disclosed. My invention should reduce the cost to the consumer because there is no need to buy tissue paper separately anymore. It will also save the consumer time because they won't have to shop the aisle for multiple items.

Abstract: An easy-open and reclosable package includes a pouch including a discrete tape including a base strip between first and second side panels; at least a first portion of the first surface of the strip coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive and adhered by the adhesive to the inner surface of the first panel at a first location, and the second surface of the strip anchored to the inner surface of the second side panel; a die cut in the first panel, defining a primary die cut segment so arranged that when the package is opened, it can be reclosed by adhering the adhesive to the first panel; and a product in the pouch. A secondary die cut segment can be disposed between the primary die cut segment and an end of the package. This secondary die cut can be at least partially underlain by the adhesive.

Abstract: A fabric-based electronic device sleeve with a stiff directional nap lining the interior of a pocket. The directional nap (or plush) of the fabric is oriented to permit easy slidable insertion of an electronic device into the sleeve's pocket, with static friction forces between the directional nap and the device preventing the device from slipping out on its own or falling from the sleeve when held in a downward direction. As a user removes the electronic device from the sleeve, a gentle pull upon pinching the device between thumb and index finger overcomes the static friction forces between the device and the directional nap lining to permit easy removal and access.

Abstract: A pack (2) of wipes (4) comprising a container (6) for the wipes (4), and a plurality of the wipes (4) in the container (6), and the wipes (4) being such that they are impregnated with a lubricant. A method of lubricating a product using the pack (2) of wipes (4) is also disclosed.

Abstract: “ChipZip” is a double open-ended plastic bag with a sliderless zipper attachment on one end that is compatible with varying sized bags and boxes containing a bag that are previously not re-sealable to become sealable in order to maintain optimum freshness of a multitude of pantry items.

Abstract: The rigid reclosure device allows reclosing a flexible packaging of packaged goods (dry, granular, powder or liquid products). A lid with neck contacts a base and shoulder to seal the packaging to limit the removal of the contents from the packaging. The base fixedly attaches to the packaging, which may be a flexible packaging, to seal the packaging when the lid is in the closed position. Retention fingers of the lid and the base engage each other to secure the lid in the closed position. An access tab provides access to the lid to allow the user to open the sealing head to gain access to the contents of the packaging. The access tab may provide a child resistant design depending upon the contents of the packaging. A scoop may also be stored on the lid.

Abstract: An easy-open and reclosable package includes a pouch including a reclosure mechanism including a first and second interlocking strip each having an interlocking segment having a base surface and an interlocking surface; a panel section so arranged that when the panel section is displaced, and the package is opened, a product can be accessed between the first and second interlocking strips, the first and second interlocking surfaces are at least partially exposed, and the package can thereafter be reclosed by folding the package such that the interlocking surface of the first interlocking strip is interlocked with the interlocking surface of the second interlocking strip. The first and second strips are not exposed until the package is initially opened, and are not interlocked with one another until the package is initially opened and then reclosed.

Abstract: A resealable package assembly is described. The package assembly includes a selectively positionable flap that covers an aperture or enables access through the aperture into the package. The flap and package include provisions for releasably engaging the flap to the package to seal the interior of the package. Provisions for grasping the tab and indicating whether tampering has occurred are also described.

Abstract: Packages for containing consumer goods are disclosed. The consumer goods may be disposable, durable or semi-durable. Absorbent article is one class of disposable articles that may be contained by packages. The packages comprise an opening that is covered by an overlabel. The overlabel is at least partially peeled off of the package so that articles contained within the package can be removed through the now exposed opening. In some embodiments, the package can be reclosed by covering the opening with the overlabel. A consumer may wish to dispose of a used article by placing the article back into the package via the opening and re-adhering the overlabel.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a collapsible, flexible storage tank is provided that is capable of holding a liquid material. The tank includes a sheet of flexible, moisture impervious side wall material; at least one opening for receiving a fitting to fill and drain the tank; joining seams wherein edges of the sheet are joined, the seams extending about the tank in a spiral orientation; and closing seams wherein the side ends of the pillow tank are sealed. In another aspect, a collapsible, flexible storage tank is capable of holding a liquid. The tank includes a sheet of flexible side wall material; at least one opening for receiving a fitting to fill and drain the tank; and butt seams wherein edges of the flexible sheet are joined together in the same plane in a butt joint configuration using an overlapping piece of flexible, moisture impervious sealed material over the top thereof.

Abstract: A laminated tape includes: an adhesive material layer; a first polyolefin layer provided on one side of the adhesive material layer; and a second polyolefin layer provided on the other side of the adhesive material layer. The laminated tape is sandwiched between opposing base films of a packaging body to be welded. The polyolefin used for the first polyolefin layer and the second polyolefin layer is of the same type. The thickness of the respective layers of the laminated tape is preferably defined so that the thickness of the first polyolefin layer and the adhesive material layer is 30 ?m or more and the thickness of the second polyolefin layer is less than 30 ?m.

Abstract: A strainable bag with a hook-and-hook closure can include walls formed of a material having multiple layers of polymer or paper or mixtures thereof, and which can include at least one gusset. The hook-and-hook closure allows for liquids or gases to be vented from the bag, as well as for liquids to be removed from the bag interior. The bag can be formed into a full open mouth configuration for ease of filling and ease of dispensing product. The hook-and-hook closure also allows for an imprecise alignment of the closure track to substantially close the bag around the gusset area. Methods of using and manufacturing a strainable bag with a hook-and-hook closure for preparing various food products are also presented.

Abstract: A film bag, laid flat, for use in automated filling systems has a front wall, a rear wall, side folds laid in between the front wall and the rear wall, and a reclosure consisting of a reclosure strip on the inside of the bag. The reclosure strip is disposed on the inside surface of a side fold as well as on the inside surfaces of the front wall and the rear wall, and extends all the way into a two-ply bag segment (A) formed by the front wall and the rear wall. The front wall, the rear wall, and the side fold provided with the reclosure form a four-ply bag segment whose plies are releasably connected by the reclosure strip. In contrast, the segments of the reclosure strip disposed on the front wall and the rear wall are not connected in the region of the two-ply bag segment (A).

Abstract: A container which includes a container shell defining an interior therein and having an opening for accessing the interior. A first grommet and a second grommet each are located on the container shell and each include a perimeter that defines an aperture through the grommet. The second grommet including a magnetic or a ferromagnetic material. A first magnet is within the first grommet. The first grommet and the second grommet are positioned on the container shell to assist in closing the opening by magnetic attraction between the first magnet and the magnetic or ferromagnetic material, when the opening is closed the grommets are held in a position wherein the apertures are in general alignment.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to reusable tote bags. Specifically, this invention relates to a reusable tote bag that is capable of securely folding in such a manner as to allow a useable writing surface attached thereto to be utilized as a built-in notepad with writing instrument and clip.

Abstract: A collapsible container for holding popcorn that is comprised of a front panel, a rear panel, and gusseted side panels. The front and rear panels have pockets mounted at the base of the container. The container also includes carrying handles incorporated into the top of the front and rear panels. The container also contains a releasably sealable opening that maybe sealed by a number of different methods and mechanisms. When the container is open, the user may add a topping, and then seal and shake the container in order to distribute the flavoring agent. Additionally, the user may seal the container, thereby trapping heat so as to maintain an elevated temperature for the popcorn. The resealable opening will also prevent accidental spillage of the popcorn. A fill line is located on the interior of the container in order to allow the user to know how much popcorn to put into the container such that it can still be easily closed.

Abstract: A heat-shrinkable anti-fomitic device incorporating anti-microbial metal wherein the device, in the form of a bag or tube, forms a cover for an object, preventing cross-infection by bacteria and other pathogens that may reside on the object. Anti-microbial metal ions from the cover further reduce future cross-infection from the object by killing pathogens. The anti-microbial, heat-shrinkable, anti-fomitic device can have a sterile interior that is sealed or stored flat during manufacture to maintain sterility. Therefore, no outer wrapping for the anti-fomitic device is required. The anti-fomitic device can be inverted when used to cover the object to present an outer surface that is initially sterile. A plurality of such devices can be heat shrunk to an object such that removal of the outer layer will further prevent cross contamination. Heat shrink film materials for the coverings/bags serve as a barrier to the transmission of pathogens and conform closely to the covered object.

According to the invention, a carrying handle (14) is arranged on the second side gusset (4) and, as seen in the longitudinal direction of the second side gusset (4), is provided in the centre or in an off-centre manner in relation to the base (15) of the sheet-material packaging bag.

The valve tube member is sized to extend into the valve end portion of the repulpable bag with the second end positioned inside the repulpable bag.

Abstract: A storage bag comprises: first and second panels joined or connected on three sides and having a mouth on a fourth side; a pair of zipper strips respectively joined to the first and second panels in the region of the mouth, each zipper strip comprising respective upper and lower zipper profiles; resealable means joined to at least one of the zipper strips in a region between the upper and lower zipper profiles; and a slider that pushes the respective pairs of zipper profiles together and reseals the resealable means as the slider travels along the mouth of the bag. In one embodiment, the resealable means comprise a layer of adhesive material that adheres to the base web of the opposing zipper strip as the moving slider presses the adhesive material and base web together. In another embodiment, the resealable means comprise first and second layers of cohesive material that cohere to each other as the moving slider presses the layers of cohesive material together.

In one embodiment, the present invention is a trash bag having a first bag connected to a second bag, both bags having openings, where the second bag has a device capable of constricting the opening of the second bag in order to substantially prevent odor from escaping the second bag. Optionally, the second bag is capable of including a deodorizing patch. The deodorizing patch can be removably secured to the second ba. In another embodiment, the present invention is an improved trash bag having an outer bag and an inner bag within the outer bag, the outer bag and inner bag being formed with a common wall portion, wherein the inner bag has an inner opening closure device capable of constricting the inner opening in order to substantially prevent odor from escaping the inner bag. A deodorizing path can be removably secured to the inner bag.

Abstract: A hanging laundry bag comprising foldable enclosure having hanger sleeves attached to the longer sides thereof accepting conventional wire or wood hangers and suspending the bag from a hanger rod. The bag also includes two straps for suspending the bag from hooks or for easily transporting the bag when it is full of laundry. The bag may further include magnetic fasteners for retaining the bag in a closed position. The bag may also include a removable liner for segregating damp laundry from the remaining portions of the bag, and any number of pockets within the compartment for securing smaller items.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a microstructured optical fiber including a photonic band gap-guided core; and at least one index-guided core. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a microstructured optical fiber including a set of main cores; a microstructured region surrounding the set of main cores; and at least alignment core, the alignment cores having substantially different optical propagation properties than the main cores. The present invention also includes methods for coupling, monitoring, and locating discontinuities in the fibers of the present invention.

Abstract: A bag comprising first and second walls which are connected together along their sides and bottom and a flap portion which is connected to a top of one of the walls. The flap portion and this one wall together form a transversely extending Z-fold. An adhesive strip is provided for closing an open mouth of the bag and this strip extends in a transverse direction across an inner surface of said one wall. A protective band extends in a transverse direction across an inner section of the flap portion so as to cover and contact the adhesive strip. The flap portion also has a projecting outer section which can be pulled outwardly away from the interior of the bag to expose the adhesive strip. A method of making modified plastic sheeting suitable for making these sealable bags is also disclosed. Using one method, an aqueous coating of release material is applied as a band to a strip of plastic sheeting by means of a printing press. This band is then dried using a hot air dryer.

Abstract: A package having a reclosable pour spout is disclosed, with the package including front and rear package panels which may be joined at respective side edges thereof by inwardly extending side gussets. An upper edge portion of the package is removable, including one of the side gussets, to form a pour spout for dispensing the contents of the package. A fastener strip, which can be detachably connected to itself, extends between confronting inside surfaces of the front and rear package panels, adjacent to the pour spout, whereby the pour spout can be conveniently closed after the package is initially opened. A method of forming the present package is also disclosed.

Abstract: A reclosable bag has opposing broad face panels defining a volume therebetween for holding a quantity of contents, an end of the body forming an expandable gusset between the broad face panels, and a reclosable bag closure between the expandable gusset and a corresponding edge region of one of the broad face panels. When the closure is opened, a bag opening is formed between the expandable gusset and said one of the broad face panels of the bag, to access the bag contents. In one example, the bag has upper and lower expandable gussets, while in another the bag has expandable side gussets. The closure is readily closed without precise alignment and despite the adjacent gusset.

Abstract: A resealable watertight mailing envelope has a ziploc style strip for sealing the envelope closed. A flap portion is foldable over the ziploc seal, secured in the closed position by a snap closure. The envelope also has an interior watertight lining joined with the ziploc strip to seal the contents within from wetness or to prevent leakage of liquid items placed inside the envelope.

Abstract: A reclosable bag is filled through an opening defined between a back side of a folded closure strip secured to an inner surface of the bag on one side of the bag opening, and an inner surface of the other side of the bag opening. The filled bag is sealed by joining the back side of the closure strip to the opposing bag wall at a point outboard of the closure strip and bag opening. The bag is later opened by breaking through a frangible section in a folded portion of the closure strip, between mating bands of hooks and loops. In some cases, an extension of one side of the bag forms a handle or a fitment; in particular, funnels can be formed from integral extensions of the closure strip, integral extensions of the bag-making material, or from a discrete preform which is joined to the bag construction.

Abstract: A reclosable bag is disclosed. The bag includes a body having sealed sides, a sealed bottom, a top opening, an inner surface and an outer surface. A hook and loop fastener constructed and arranged to permit selective opening and closing of the top opening is adhered to the inner surface of the body between the top opening and sealed bottom. A method of manufacturing a reclosable bag and a self-closing reclosable bag are also disclosed.

Abstract: Touch fasteners useful for bags, packaging and other products as well as novel manufacturing of products incorporating such fasteners. A composite touch fastener has a fibrous loop strip partially encapsulated in, or otherwise permanently attached to, resin of a substrate, and an array of loop-engageable fastener elements integrally molded with resin of the substrate. The center portion of the closure seals the bag until it is torn away to expose the mating bands of loops and fastener elements. Methods of applying recloseable touch fasteners, e.g. hook and loop fasteners, to sheet or film include vertical form and fill and horizontal form and fill packaging and pouch making.

Abstract: A liquid storage tank and a method of fabricating and testing the liquid storage tank. The tank is collapsible for ease of transportation when not holding a liquid and includes a base portion and a top portion. The base portion has a bottom wall and a frusto-conical sidewall that is sealed to the bottom wall. The top portion is sealed to the sidewall, and has a flexible opening. The opening is linear in the preferred embodiment and is openable to draw liquid from the tank and closable to prevent contaminants from entering the tank. The bottom wall is substantially circular and the top portion includes two substantially semi-circular sections joined and overlapped along the straight edges to form an overlapped region. The sidewall includes generally triangular shaped sections, and the sections are joined to one another with seams that extend in a slightly helical fashion about the tank. The opening includes a slit in the overlapped region and two L-shaped members.

Abstract: An anti-fomitic device in the form of a bag or envelope forms a cover for an object for preventing cross-infection by bacteria and other pathogens that may reside on the object. The anti-fomitic device is a flat, flexible bag or envelope with a closure means at one or both ends of the bag or envelope, having a sterile interior that is sealed during manufacture to maintain sterility. Therefore, no outer wrapping for the anti-fomitic device is required. The anti-fomitic device is inverted when used to cover the object and results in an ultimate outer surface that is initially sterile. Materials for the coverings/bags are impervious to the transmission of pathogens. A laundered covering such as a sheet, pillowcase, etc., can then be slipped over the object that is covered with the anti-fomitic device to enhance comfort, yet maintain protection against pathogens on the object being covered.

Abstract: A reclosable bag has a closure including first and second fastener strips. The first fastener strip includes a strip form base having an array of discrete hook fastener elements integrally molded with and extending from the base. The second fastener strip includes loop elements engageable by the hook fastener elements. The polyethylene bases of the fastener strips are welded directly to the body of the mailer, which is formed of a coextrusion of polyethylene materials. One of the fastener strips is unattached to the bag body along most of its length, so as to avoid undesired opening by shifting of bag contents. The bag is useful as an interoffice mailing envelope, for example.

Abstract: A package having a re-sealable seal is formed from a flexible sheet having its opposite longitudinal edge portions sealed together to form a tubular structure with a permanent longitudinal seal. Two permanent end seals are formed transversely across the tubular structure to seal the product inside the package. A re-sealable seal is formed adjacent one of the permanent seals. The first and second regions of the inner surface are placed in contact with each other and the heat seal coatings thereon are sealed together to initially form the re-sealable seal.
