  • Patent number: 10288115
Abstract: An improved design and method is disclosed that uses a novel nesting linear slide which incorporates machine tool slides or ways into a structural member. The design simplifies the fabrication and assembly of components requiring accurate sliding alignment, such as milling machine bases, saddles, tables and columns. Due to the use of the single piece, which replaces multiple pieces in the prior art, fabrication and assembly costs are also significantly lower. The invention also enables a method of construction utilizing the novel single shape component which simplifies the assembly of machines requiring sliding surfaces with accurate alignment. The invention essentially comprises a single structural element that includes both male and female sliding members. By nesting two of the single structural elements it is possible to create sliding joints for machine tool bases, saddles, tables, and columns, as well as a wide variety of other sliding joints, in an extremely cost-effective manner.

Abstract: A machine tool comprises two motion units, in particular a spindle stock and a machine bed, arranged for being displaced relative to each other along one axis. A guideway is fixed to a first motion unit for guiding the displaceable motion unit, a first surface of the guideway being in contact with, and screwed to a second surface of the first motion unit. In order to prevent the guideways from being dislodged in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the machine screws, for example when the spindle stock runs up against a stationary obstacle due to improper operation, at least one of the said surface is roughened.

Abstract: A linear bearing (20) with a height adjustment mechanism (58) including a stud (64) fixed to the bearing (20) and a tubular bushing (72) received over the stud (64) and mating with a threaded bore (86) in an end wall (88) of a mounting structure (12). A reaction nut (80) threaded to a protruding end of the stud (64) bears on a protruding end of the bushing (72), the other end bearing against the bearing (20) so that rotation of the bushing (72) in either direction causes a shift of the bearing (20) in either direction. A locking nut (92) threaded onto the bushing (72) is selectively advanced against end wall (88) to lock the bushing (72) in an adjusted position.

  • Patent number: 4940339
Abstract: An endless rectilinear motion rolling guide unit is provided, consisting of a track rail, a slide unit straddling said track rail and a plurality of cylindrical rollers intervened between the two members, so that said slide unit can make a rectilinear movement on said track rail. A slide bearing holding member having an inwardly and gradually decreasing height toward its one end is provided in a recess having the complementary cavity configuration that is in turn provided on the bottom wall surface of said slide unit. A friction member is secured onto the bottom surface of said slide bearing holding member in slide contact relation with the underlying track rail and the friction member can be longitudinally displaceable in the recess of the slide unit so as to adjust the contact pressure between the friction member and the underlying surface of the track rail due to wedging action deriving from the particular configuration of the insert relative to that of the recess receiving it.

Abstract: A bearing arrangement for a feeding device for a drilling machine, comprising a feeding beam (1) provided with longitudinal guides (6), a carriage supporting a drilling machine (3) and provided with guide surfaces in slidable engagement with the guides, and displacing means for displacement of the carriage along the guides. At least one guide surfce (5a) of the carriage is formed by a spacer (5) supported by the carriage. For automatical eliminatin of the clearance between the feeding beam and the carriage, the spacer is pressed against a wedging surface (8) provided on the carriage and extending essentially in parallel with the guide. The carriage is provided by means (9) for displacement of the spacer in between the guide surface (6a) of the guide of the feeding beam and the wedging surface (8) of the carriage so that the growth of clearance caused by wearing of the spacer is avoided as the wearing increases.

  • Patent number: 4685366
Abstract: Lightweight, portable apparatus for cutting a wide range of materials available in sheet form, such as matboard, glass, light plastic, and leather. The invention lies in the unification of its cutting tool guide tract with the means of fixing in place the material to be cut. Four pegs are attached to the base of the apparatus for aligning the sheet to be cut. Equally important is the means by which it is automatically held in place during the cutting operation. Pieces of foam rubber or the like are inlaid in the base of the apparatus so that when the operator is pressing down on the cutting tool the resultant force normal to the supporting surface is sufficient to prevent lateral motion of the apparatus. Thus, no bulky and awkward clamping devices need to be used to affix the cutter to its supporting table.
