Suction Or Pressure Patents (Class 384/414)
  • Patent number: 8342753
Abstract: A system is disclosed for use in a rolling mill oil film bearing to remove oil exiting from between a rotating sleeve and a fixed bushing surrounding the sleeve. The system comprises an annular chamber arranged to receive the exiting flow of oil. The chamber is isolated from a drainage sump by confinement surfaces including a seal interface defined by a flexible seal in contact with an adjacent rigid component of the bearing. Impellers project into the chamber and are rotable with and at the velocity of the sleeve to rotatively propel oil around the chamber. A discharge conduit communicates tangentially with the chamber and is arranged to receive a pressurized flow of the oil being rotatively propelled around the chamber. A venturi is located in the discharge conduit. A suction conduit connects the venturi to the drainage sump. Oil escaping from the annular chamber past the seal interface into the drainage sump is aspirated by the venturi for removal via the conduit.

  • Patent number: 6416227
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for disposing of a lubricant, preferably oil, of which a controlled supply is provided to a friction bearing, especially a roll neck bearing of a chock. Said lubricant flows into the bearing box and is disposed of below through a lubricant sump. According to said method, the lubricant which has collected in the sump is disposed of upwards with the aid of a vacuum. To this end, the bearing case (1) is configured with a discharge bore (10) which extends downwards into the lubricant sump (9), and is connected to the atmosphere via at least one ventilation bore (17) situated at the top end of the bearing, and an outlet line (15, 16). The discharge bore (10) has a pressure regulating valve (13) in a line (12) which is connected to a vacuum source (VQ). Said pressure regulating valve (13) has an interactive connection to a device for measuring the throughflow of air (14), said measuring device being located in the outlet line (15) of the ventilation bore (17).

  • Patent number: 4643593
Abstract: The rotor of a thrust bearing for the horizontal shaft of a centrifugal pump is installed in a housing which is mounted in an oil-containing vessel and has an inlet below and an outlet above the oil level. The peripheral surface of the rotor has a groove which receives a portion of an annular stator to form a suction channel which draws oil from the vessel through the inlet when the shaft is driven. The oil fills the housing and is returned into the supply of oil in the vessel by way of the outlet, a cooling unit and a filtering cartridge.
