  • Patent number: 11915498
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a reading system includes an extractor, a determiner, and a reader. The extractor extracts a candidate image from an input image. The candidate image is of a portion of the input image in which a segment display is imaged. The determiner calculates an angle with respect to a reference line of each of a plurality of straight lines detected from the candidate image, and determines whether or not the candidate image is an image of a segment display based on a distribution indicating a relationship between the angle and a number of the straight lines. The reader reads a numerical value displayed in a segment display from the candidate image determined to be an image of a segment display.

Abstract: A media reproducing device comprises a media data output element operable to output media data stored on a storage medium to a media data presentation unit. The media reproducing device further includes a receiver operable to receive a sequence of video images, and a user detector operable to detect, by analysis of the sequence of video images, whether a user is attending to a presentation of the media data by the media data presentation unit. The user detector is operable to detect whether the user is attending to the presentation of the media data and to generate motion vector tracks associated with movement of objects within the sequence of received video images. If it detects that the user is not attending to the presentation of the media data, the detector is operable to store a bookmark indicating that the user is not attending to the presentation of the media data.

  • Patent number: 8676036
Abstract: A method, program product and system are provided for optimizing power requirements of a video recorder system in recording user-selected video programs. When it is determined that recording a selected video program at a time subsequent to a user designated time would result in a cost savings, an acceptable recording delay period is determined and if the subsequent recording time is within the acceptable recording delay period, the user-selected video program is recorded at the subsequent recording time rather than being recorded at the user designated time. The acceptable recording delay period is determined by accessing stored user data which are indicative of a future time when the user will be available to view a recording of the selected video program.
