The implementation also includes displaying a navigation interface corresponding to the media. The navigation interface includes an active region, a current view region, and a ghost region. The active region corresponds to at least a portion of the media. The current view region corresponds to a portion of the media to be displayed. The current view is at least partially defined by a selector handle. The ghost region is coupled to the active region. The ghost region represents a range of remaining media other than the portion of the media in the active region. The ghost area provides a context for the remaining media relative to the portion of the media corresponding to the active region. The implementation also includes receiving user input to navigate the media according to a visual interaction between the sector handle and the ghost region.

Abstract: A user interface (UI) for controlling buffered content of a streaming presentation is disclosed. In one embodiment, the UI includes a time line which represents a length in time of a streaming content that has been buffered at a receiver, such as a client device which retrieves the streaming content by sending one or more URLs, in a playlist file, to a transmitter; an indicator on the time line shows a current playback position within the buffered content at the receiver.

Abstract: When setting of marking on recording data is performed, the marking is automatically performed at a suitable position corresponding to a status during image capturing. While recording of captured images is being performed, a status of a zoom operation, a moving pattern of a camera, and a feature value of video/audio signals are monitored, and a time point at which a predetermined change has occurred regarding this monitored state is detected. A predetermined data position based on this detected time point is then set as a marking position. Setting information of the marking position is stored in a structure of management information, and is stored in a storage section together with the recording data.

Abstract: A video disk player includes (i) a disk reading section for reading out video data, a program, synchronization timing information from an optical disk; (ii) a clock for generating a clock signal; (iii) a decoder for converting, in accordance with the clock signal, the video data into decompressed video data for reproduction output; (iv) a video reproducing section including a synchronization control section for transmitting, in accordance with the clock signal, a synchronization control signal to the program executing section at a timing specified by a field timing contained in the synchronization timing information, and (v) a program executing section for executing a program in accordance with the synchronization control signal received from the synchronization control section. Abstract: A playback device that creates a virtual package by combining a structural element recorded on a BD-ROM with an additional content recorded on a removable medium. The middleware in the playback device is provided with a file I/O module 34 that controls data input/output of the removable medium, in accordance with a request from an application program. When a BD-J application requests writing the structural element of the virtual package and the additional content to be written is an AV stream, the file I/O module 34 writes the structural element into one or more allocation units composed of a plurality of continuous empty logical blocks in the removable medium. When the additional content to be written is not an AV stream, it writes the additional content into a normal data area that is composed of a plurality of separately scattered empty blocks in the removable medium.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein are directed to a virtual repair of digital media using a virtual repair service. Digital media stored on a digital media device is read using a media player. A request is received by a virtual repair unit from the media player to perform a virtual repair of a segment of unreadable digital content of the digital media. The virtual repair unit retrieves a readable copy of the digital content corresponding to the segment of unreadable digital content identified in the request from a media repository using the virtual repair unit. The virtual repair unit transmits the readable copy of the digital content to the media player for insertion into a buffer of the media player.

Abstract: A method and system for incorporating a current event data stream from a television broadcasted video signal onto a pre-recorded video stream for playback on a television set. A first digital video stream, which includes television program content and a first event data stream, is retrieved. If it is ascertained that a current event is located in the current event data stream in the television broadcasted video signal, then the first event data stream is replaced with the current event data stream in the retrieved first digital video stream, and the television program content is played back concurrently with the current event data stream on the television set. If it is ascertained that the current event is not located in the current event data stream in the television broadcasted video signal, then the television program content in the retained first digital video stream is played back on the television set.

The video staging system includes a server hosting a website providing users with an interface through which users may interact with the video tagging system. The video staging system also includes a tag information database maintaining information regarding tags created by users. The video content and the information regarding tags are maintained separately.

Proceeding from a state of the art that makes it possible to provide media data with additional product and advertising information with regard to selected objects, a system is proposed, within the scope of the invention, which allows processing of media data (3) with current product and advertising information called up in real time, in contrast to the state of the art. This is made possible in that an XML file (4) is generated for a media file to be processed accordingly, in which file the data are compiled not statically, but rather dynamically, for example in the form of links. The storage medium includes: multimedia image data; and text-based subtitle data for displaying subtitles on an image based on the multimedia image data, wherein the text-based subtitle data includes dialog information indicating subtitle contents to be displayed on the image, style information indicating an output style of the dialog information, and partial style information indicating an output style applied to a portion of the dialog information. Accordingly, subtitles can be provided in a plurality of languages without limited to the number of units of subtitle data. In addition, subtitle data can be easily produced and edited. The content-describing metadata provide content information including media encoding information for the digital content and a media profile information for the digital content. The content-describing metadata are configured to provide the content information to the media presentation module prior to rendering the digital content. In one embodiment, the processor is further configured to configure the media presentation module based on the media encoding information and the media profile information, and to present the content on a display.

Abstract: Methods for integrating an authored DVD system and a WWW web browser are described. Universal Resource Locator (URL) information corresponding to sites accessible by the browser is stored in fields within the DVD data. When a user actuates a DVD element that has a corresponding URL, the web browser displays information from that site. When the user actuates an HTML menu or other browser-implemented feature, the DVD system accesses a portion of the DVD data specified in the menu. This arrangement provides for two-way communication, i.e., HTML in the browser is able to control DVD content and vice-versa. Having the WWW information embedded in the DVD brings a number of benefits, the foremost of which is the ability to write a “one size fits all” template web page that can interrogate the DVD for URL information and present WWW content corresponding to the URL synchronized with the DVD information.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a video preview generator that quickly generates preview displays of different parts of a video. The preview generator includes a skimming tool and a picture generator. The skimming tool is moveable across a representation of a video clip in order to identify different video pictures within the video clip. As the skimming tool moves across the video clip representation, the picture generator identifies and displays different video pictures for different positions of the skimming tool on the video clip. For at least some of the positions of the skimming tool, the picture generator presents a video picture that is not at the location identified by the skimming tool, but rather is at a nearby location and is easier to present in the preview than the video picture at the identified location.
