Parallel Decompression Or Decoding Patents (Class 386/354)
  • Patent number: 7978962
Abstract: A method for optimizing a scheduler for an optical pick-up reduces the pick-up jump frequency and the initial start-up time for reproduction. The pick-up reads data streams from different files on an optical storage medium, e.g. Blu-Ray disc, and buffers the data streams in separate buffers, e.g. for video, audio and subtitles. Buffer sizes are optimized when the video buffer is as small as possible, i.e. large enough to bridge the pick-up access and read times for the other streams, and the buffers the lower rated streams are extended such that the pick-up access frequency for lower rated streams is an integer multiple of the pick-up access frequency for the highest rated stream, usually the video stream. Initial start-up time is minimized by filling the buffers initially only to a minimum required level.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a reception unit, a decoding unit, a sub frame generating unit and an image signal generating unit. The reception unit receives at least three encoded image data via a serial bus. The decoding unit decodes one of the received encoded image data to generate a main frame. The sub frame generating unit extracts low frequency component from each one of the other received encoded image data, and generates sub frames from the extracted low frequency components. The image signal generating unit combines the main frame and the sub frames, and generates an image signal including the main frame combined with the sub frames.

  • Publication number: 20110044665
Abstract: Original data is copied from a read-only recording medium to a rewritable portable recording medium. A data storage unit stores therein updated data and mapping information indicating a path of the updated data in the virtual package. A determination unit determines, from the mapping information, a match between a path on the portable recording medium of first stream data included in the original data and a path in the virtual package of second stream data included in the updated data. When the match is determined, the recording control unit instructs that the first stream data be deleted from the portable recording medium. The recording control unit further instructs that the updated data be written on the portable recording medium. The data recording unit further writes and deletes data in response to the instructions from the recording control unit.

[Means to Solve Problem] An optical disc includes an AV data recording and a navigation information area. The AV data recording area has TS, having a plurality of TSPBs and TSSBs are arranged in an interleaved manner, recorded thereon. TSPBs constitute a video stream representing monoscopic video. TSSBs constitute a video stream representing parallax video corresponding to the monoscopic video. The navigation information area has navigation information recorded therein. The navigation information has base location information and enhanced location information that is used only for stereoscopic video playback. The base location information indicates an area in which TSPBs are recorded. The enhanced location information indicates an area in which TSSBs are recorded.

Abstract: A method and system for encoding and recording data in a multi-stream format when the data is initially captured. The multiple streams of data can be combined to provide a high quality, or high resolution, representation, while a reduced subset of the streams can provide a lower quality, or lower resolution, representation. Data storage requirements can be reduced, by deleting one or more of the streams, when there is no longer a need for retention of the data at the higher quality.
