  • Publication number: 20020063122
Abstract: A vaporizer that adjusts to the conductivity of the water used in the vaporizer, and that also adjusts to changes in the conductivity of the water while in operation, thereby decreasing warm-up time and maintaining a relatively constant boiling rate and rate of steam production. The vaporizer includes hardware circuitry or other logic that maintains constant power supplied to the electrodes of the vaporizer to decrease warm-up time, and adjusts the current supplied to the electrodes while the vaporizer is in operation and after the warm-up period to maintain a relatively constant boiling rate and rate of steam production.

  • Patent number: 6397001
Abstract: A vaporizer having a heating chamber which may be quickly and easily removed and replaced when scale buildup interferes with the operation of the vaporizer. The vaporizer may have an improved electrode configuration, whereby the bottom portion of the electrodes provide most of the boiling energy. The vaporizer may be easily and safely maintained, as user access to the electrodes is prevented. In addition, a vaporizer is described having an electrode cartridge which may be quickly and easily removed for replacement or cleaning. A unique reservoir design provides for a flat or rising lip surrounding the main reservoir opening, which allows the reservoir to be compatible with dishwasher cleaning. The vaporizer may be provided with mineral salts to enhance the flow of electric current between the vaporizer elements.

  • Patent number: 6078729
Abstract: The control system for a humidifier, which is part of a heat, ventilation or air conditioning HVAC system, detects the level of water and generates control signals by detecting the capacitance of the water in the humidifier. These control signals are used to fill the humidifier with water and control heater elements and, to some degree, drain cycles. A capacitor is utilized to detect the change in capacitance as the water level changes. The control circuit, coupled to the capacitor, generates fill control signals based upon first and second predetermined capacitive levels. In one embodiment, the capacitor sensor includes an electrically conductive element extending into the water as a first electrode which is shielded by an insulating cover, where the water acts as a medium through which capacitance is measured and the humidifier casing or another electrically conductive element in the water functions as the second electrode for the capacitor.

  • Patent number: 6072937
Abstract: A steam generator comprises a chamber having an inlet for water and an outlet for steam. Disposed in the chamber are first and second sets of interleaved electrodes, connected to respective poles of an electrical supply. The electrodes have tapered planar surfaces extending adjacent one another, with a cross sectional area which increases in a direction away from the inlet for water. The electrodes also have multiple apertures formed in the planar surfaces. The chamber is tapered complementally to the shape of the electrodes, and is mounted within a primary reservoir. The inlet for water is in liquid communication with the interior of the primary reservoir and the level of the liquid in the primary reservoir is maintained constant.

  • Patent number: 5440668
Abstract: An electrode boiler comprises a container for containing water and electrodes within the container which serves to pass electrical current through such water and which is generally upright when in use. Feed and drain systems are connected to the container to enable water to be fed to and drained therefrom. An outlet is provided through which steam generated inside the container can pass. An electrode current indicator provides an indication of the value of the electrical current passing through the electrodes. A controlling computer is connected to the feed and drain systems and the electrode current indicator. The controlling computer is set to cause the feed system to open when a predetermined drop in the electrode current has occurred owing to a boiling away of water from the boiler, and then to cause the feed system to close when a predetermined increase in the electrode current has occurred owing to the introduction of water into the boiler.

  • Patent number: 5363471
Abstract: An electrode boiler comprising a container for containing water and electrodes within the container which serve to pass electrical current through such water and which are generally upright when the boiler is in use. Fill and drain valves are connected to the container to enable water to be fed to and drained from the container. An outlet of the container enables steam generated inside the container to pass out therefrom when the boiler is in use. A water level contact member is arranged to cause a signal to occur when the water in the container reaches a predetermined level. The boiler is provided with a store to store the value of an allowed time for water to boil away from the said predetermined level until the water is no longer in contact with the contact member. A timer is connected to time the actual time it takes for such boiling away to occur, and comparator is connected to the store and the timer to effect a comparison between the allowed time and the said actual time.

  • Patent number: 5359692
Abstract: The invention relates to a steam generator for humidifying an airplane air conditioning system. The steam is generated in a container (21). A support (50) enables a translational movement of a tubular part (49) connectable to a duct of a humidifier along the main axis of the container (21) in order to connect it with the outlet opening (24) of the container (21). Inside container (21), there are at least two electrodes (31, 32, 33) that are partially immersed in water and which are energized under a constant voltage up to a certain level of current in electrodes (31, 32, 33). Also, container (21) includes a fuse 38 with one end connected to a first of the terminals, the other end of the fuse being of the connected to one of the electrodes (31, 32, 33). A regulating unit (60) measures and maintains the intensity that current passing through electrodes (31, 32, 33). At the time of the installation of a new container, the regulating unit (60) determines whether the fuse (38) is or is not conductive.
