Abstract: A camera flash comprises a light guide arranged to extract light at least through one surface; and one or more light sources arranged, in use, to emit light into the lightguide. Each light source is an LED or a laser diode. The camera flash is connectable, in use, to drive circuitry, the drive circuitry being for driving the light source(s) to emit a pulse of light. The waveguide spreads out the light from the light source(s), so that a flash of light from the camera flash does not present a safety risk, while minimising loss of the light from the light source(s). The camera flash can thus provide a high overall optical output, spread over an extended area (as defined by the waveguide). The lightguide may for example be disposed around a camera module of a mobile telephone camera.

Abstract: A digital camera containing an internal flash also has an externally attached flash which is adapted to emit light by using as trigger a signal received from the internal flash. A control system for the flash includes circuits for starting and stopping preliminary and main emission of light from the external flash by using as trigger the starting and stopping of light emission from the internal flash and may also be adapted to vary the quantity of light from the external flash for the preliminary emission by changing its waveform. A light screen may be provided to prevent light from the internal flash from illuminating the target object to be photographed by the camera and a light conductor such as an optical cable may connect the internal flash with the external flash. A single knob is operated to switch between two or more different modes of operation such as automatic and manual modes.

Abstract: An image capturing apparatus illuminate and captures an image of an object using reflected light from the object. In the apparatus, a plurality of light-emitting devices are mounted in the periphery of an image sensor, and the light of the plurality of light-emitting devices is guided to an image capturing region by a light guide member for illumination. On the image capturing apparatus having the image capturing system disposed close to the illumination system, a hood is provided for optically intercepting the image capturing system from the illumination system, with a flange disposed thereon. The light reflected on the upper face of a filter can be intercepted from being incident on an image capturing system unit. Accordingly, output light not irradiating the object and causing an image capturing noise can be intercepted, which is effective for a clear photographed image.

Abstract: A lighting apparatus for lighting subjects to be photographed, includes a plurality of lighting units each having a lighting element and a radiating surface for radiating light from the lighting element, and each radiating surface having a normal line oriented in the same direction. Further, the lighting apparatus includes an optical-path deflection unit that has a plurality of optical-path deflectors for each of the lighting units, to deflect a direction and an illuminating angle of light emitted by each of the lighting elements. The optical-path deflectors are formed as one body. Therefore, the lighting apparatus has a simple structure, and uniformly illuminates the photographing area of the camera, by deflecting each optical path of light from the lighting units.

Abstract: A lens-fitted photo film unit comprises a main body, a bottom lid, and a photo film. The main body has an exposure chamber with a taking lens. The exposure chamber is provided with a plane mirror disposed in such a manner as to be inclined 45 degrees with respect to the optical axis of the taking lens. Since the plane mirror reflects light from a subject, a photographic optical path of the light is perpendicularly bent. Subject light forms an image on the photo film disposed in parallel with the optical axis. A side print is exposed in the manufacture on the lateral edge of the photo film. Since the orientation of the photographed image is the same as that of the side print, it is possible to easily confirm the orientation of the photographed image in the development and print processes.

Abstract: Image projection apparatus wherein, a focusing lens is controlled when a shutter is operated so that a contrast signal, obtained when a luminance signal from a camera signal processing circuit is supplied to an auto focusing detection circuit, may become maximum. A laser diode is driven to generate laser beams that are condensed into parallel laser beams by a condenser. These parallel laser beams are applied to a hologram plate and thereby diffracted. The diffracted laser beams interfere with each other, to produce a hologram image with sufficient contrast. Therefore, satisfactory focusing can be made in an auto focus mode of the contrast detection system or in a manual focus mode.

  • Patent number: 6839510
Abstract: A flash device for a lens-fitted photo film unit pre-loaded with unexposed photo film is provided. A main capacitor stores charge. A flash emitter emits flash light. A flash circuit board charges the main capacitor, and drives the flash emitter by discharging the main capacitor in response to an exposing operation. A tightly closed flash case is secured to the lens-fitted photo film unit, for containing the main capacitor, the flash emitter and the flash circuit board. Also, the lens-fitted photo film unit includes a sync switch for generating a trigger signal in response to the exposing operation. Two switch contact points are disposed outside the flash case, for receiving the trigger signal from the sync switch. The two switch contact points disable discharge of the main capacitor while the flash case is away from the lens-fitted photo film unit, and are short-circuited for discharge of the main capacitor upon supply of the trigger signal while the flash case is secured to the lens-fitted photo film unit.

Abstract: An operating apparatus is utilized in a photographic device, and includes a base frame, a rotating seat, and a moving seat that carries a pop-up flash unit thereon. The rotating seat and the moving seat are disposed within a first accommodating chamber in the base frame. When a starter button is operated, the rotating seat rotates from a first position to a second position, where the rotating seat projects from the base frame. The moving seat moves away from the rotating seat from a retracted position to an extended position during rotation of the rotating seat. As such, the flash unit is transformed from a non-projected position to a projected position so as to increase the distance between the flash unit and a lens and thus the light distribution angle of the flash unit, thereby improving the photographic quality of the photographic device.
