Patent number: 8050587Abstract: There is described an image forming apparatus that performs an image forming operation in a N-up printing mode based on a print job. The apparatus includes an image forming section; an operating section to designate the N-up printing mode, and to set an arranging method in the N-up printing mode; and a controlling section to apply image processing to the image data of the plural pages, so that the plural images are arranged onto the single paper sheet according to the arranging method set by the operating section. When implementing the image forming operation in the N-up printing mode, the controlling section groups the plural pages into plural groups, each of which includes specific pages fulfilling a same condition in respect to the image forming operation, and then, aligns the specific pages on a same line among plural lines extended along a conveying direction of the paper sheet.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2008Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Konica Minolta Business Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Susumu Kurihara

Patent number: 7999968Abstract: The image forming apparatus receives image data based on multiple document images of various sizes and/or orientations. The apparatus identifies areas that are not yet assigned with document images on a single sheet of paper and identifies whether any document image can be laid out in an identified area. In another aspect of the apparatus, a maximum document image size is detected from multiple document images, and a scale factor is calculated to cause the detected maximum size match with the size of the entire area of the paper or an area obtained by dividing the paper into equal parts. In another aspect of the apparatus, a scaling factor is calculated for each document image to cause the size of the particular document match with the size of an area obtained by dividing the paper into equal parts.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2010Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Minolta Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tomohiko Teranishi, Kazuhito Oosumi

Publication number: 20080085135Abstract: A rendering method, system and program product. A single functional instruction among a plurality of functional instructions can be provided by a rendering device and selected by a user in order to scan a document platen associated with the rendering device, thereby creating via the rendering device, a representation of the scanned documents. The representation of documents can be automatically divided into a left half and a right half. Thereafter, the representation of the documents can be rendered such that the left half and the right half of the representation of the documents are rendered on separate substrates, thereby creating a full glass scan to simplex copy of the documents.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2006Publication date: April 10, 2008Inventor: Kenneth James Rieck

Patent number: 7006239Abstract: The image formation by the plural-image formation mode is manually inhibited by the user in case the image formation is interrupted or the formed image is distorted by defective original feeding in the image formation by such plural-image formation mode. As a result, image formation of high quality can be achieved without trouble. The configuration for this purpose is featured by manually inhibiting the plural-image formation mode by depression of a touch key on an operation unit.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1999Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hideto Kohtani, Takashi Nonaka

Patent number: 5619302Abstract: A wedge shaped platen scanner sequentially records opposing pages of a bound document positioned thereon. A dichroic mirror is positioned between the surfaces of the wedge shaped platen. The two sides of the opposing pages of the bound document are exposed by light having different wavelengths. One side is exposed by a flash lamp that emits light with a wavelength that forms an optical path through the dichroic mirror and onto an imaging station. The other side is exposed by a flash lamp emits light with a wavelength that forms a reflective path off of the dichroic mirror and onto the imaging station. A controller insures that the opposing pages of the bound document are sequentially illuminated by the two flash lamps. Images of opposing pages of the bound document are focused through optics onto the imaging station. In one arrangement, the imaging station is a two-dimensional array of detectors which sense an image of a page of the bound document projected thereon.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1996Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Xiaodong Wu
