Having Position Detection Patents (Class 399/371)
  • Patent number: 5854964
Abstract: An auto document feeder (ADF) adjustment mode is set from an operation panel and a start key is pressed. An original is conveyed to an image reading unit by an original conveying apparatus, a scanner reads an original image and image data is generated. The image data is stored into image memory. By searching the image data stored in the image memory, two vertexes are detected. From the two vertexes, inclination to the standard original reading position is calculated, and also, dislocation in the main scan and subscan directions when the inclination is corrected is calculated. The inclination and the dislocation in the main scan direction are converted into real adjustment amounts and displayed on the operation panel. The dislocation in the subscan direction is sent to a CPU and then the CPU controls the original conveying apparatus so as to optimize the original-conveying distance.

  • Patent number: 5822672
Abstract: A copying machine having a two-in-one copying mode comprises a document feeder means 65, 75 and three conveying means 90, 95, 101. The feeder means 65, 75 feeds a document toward a glass platen 29 one by one to stop the document at a first-out position. The first conveying means 90 conveys the document fed by the feeder means 65, 75 onto the glass platen. The second conveying means 95 conveys the document conveyed by the first conveying means 90 along the glass platen 29 until the rear end of the document reaches at a predetermined switch-back position, then conveys the document to the opposite direction to retreat a predetermined distance, and then conveys the document as well as a succeeding document stopped at the first-out position such that the front end of the document situated on a downstream side of the document conveying direction may be aligned with a exposure reference SP, and then discharging the documents to the downstream side of the document conveying direction after exposure.

  • Patent number: 5819152
Abstract: A document feeder is formed of a reading section for scanning an original document while the original document is being transferred at a predetermined speed; a feeding stacker for supplying the original document to the reading section; a transfer roller having a transfer path therearound for guiding the original document transferred from the feeding stacker to the reading section; and first and second rollers located respectively in upstream and down stream sides of the transfer path for transferring the original document. A sensing device is located in the transfer path between the first and second rollers for detecting a front edge of the original document. A driving device is connected to the transfer roller to control a rotational speed of the transfer roller based on a detecting signal of the sensing device.

  • Patent number: 5805308
Abstract: A conveyance device 4 for conveying a manuscript to an image reading section of a main body mounted by an image processing system is provided with a base member 6 removably fixed to the main body to provide a conveyance path 5, a driving mechanism and a manuscript guide member 8 for driving and conveying the manuscript. The manuscript is located between the manuscript guide member and a rib 9 at a left-hand side, and conveyed in a stable status. On a surface of a top end of a moving member 16 associated with the manuscript guide member is provided a white colored plate 17. A groove portion 18 other than the plate is dark, and the image is read to be binary coded whereby a pixel corresponding to the plate indicates "1". A position of the plate is located in the guide member or a right hand side edge of the manuscript, and a left hand side edge is fixed by the rib. Accordingly, a manuscript width (read width) Is determined from the pixel "1".

  • Patent number: 5761599
Abstract: An image forming apparatus including a document-inlet, a multifunction opening, a document-outlet, a first document path and a second document path, is provided. The multifunction opening selectively functions as a document inlet or a document outlet. The first document path, responsive to the document fed in through the document-inlet, directs and drives the document from the document-inlet to the illumination/scan position, and, after the document is scanned, discharges the document to the multifunction opening. The second document path, responsive to the document fed in through the multifunction opening, directs and drives the document from the multifunction opening to the illumination/scan position, and, after the document is scanned, discharges the document to the document outlet. A section of the first document path and a section of the second document path overlaps to each other and defines an overlapping path.

  • Patent number: 5710967
Abstract: A scanning mechanism which indicates to a user the manner of setting a page in order for the page to be properly scanned. When an automatic document feeder is not being used, a paper orientation indicator which is next to a transparent contact surface is illuminated, depending on the orientation of the input paper onto which an image is to be copied. The orientation indicator is located on a periphery of the paper support surface. The orientation indicator is located either at a corner of the transparent contact surface or centered at an edge of the transparent contact surface, depending on how the page to be scanned should be set on the transparent contact surface. Alternatively, an automatic document feeder is utilized with a copier and the automatic document feeder contains both an orientation indicator and paper position indicators which are illuminated to indicate where to place a stack of pages which are to be fed by the automatic document feeder.
