In Response To Detection Of Original Patents (Class 399/386)
  • Patent number: 9058005
Abstract: A decurler system includes a metallic penetrating roll and a conductive elastomeric idler roll that is movable from an open position to a contact position. The penetrating member is connected to an electrical power supply. When the idler roll contacts the penetrating roll, the idler roll conducts electrical power supplied to the penetrating roll. An initialization process includes detecting an electrical current conducted by the idler roll to determine that an idler roll is in a contact position. An idler roll wear is monitored by counting a number of steps that the idler roll is driven before an electrical current is detected at the idler roll.

  • Patent number: 7729004
Abstract: A method for providing a print job manifest includes querying a press database containing data corresponding to print jobs recorded on a web. A print job manifest is generated according to the press database. The print job manifest is recorded on the web so that at least a portion of the manifest is located generally adjacent to a loose end of the web when the web is wound to form a roll.

  • Patent number: 7595916
Abstract: In an embodiment of the present invention, a pickup roller R1 makes soft contact to an upper surface of a manuscript by being lowered incrementally in four raising-lowering operations S1 to S4 in which, when an electromagnetic clutch connects, the pickup roller is lowered, while being rotated, to approach the upper surface of the top manuscript and, when the electromagnetic clutch disconnects, the pickup roller, while stopping to rotate, is raised away from the upper surface of the top manuscript by an amount smaller than a lowering amount. Between an electromagnetic clutch-side engaging portion and a pickup roller-side engaging portion of a torque limiter, an elastic member is arranged that suppresses drive power load fluctuation produced by disconnection/connection of the electromagnetic clutch and applies a biasing force in a direction to raise the pickup roller when the electromagnetic clutch disconnects.

  • Patent number: 7589859
Abstract: A print apparatus comprises a memory for storing compressed print information of at least two or more pages transmitted from a host computer, and executes image formation by extracting the compressed print information read from the memory. When nonconformity between an image size of the page to which the print apparatus is executing the image formation and a paper size fed for the relevant page is detected, the compressed print information, for the page in execution of the image formation, subsequent to the read address on the memory at a point of time of the nonconformity detection is read from the memory, and then extracted and abandoned. Thus, the read address on the memory indicates the head of a page subsequent to the page in execution of the image formation.

  • Patent number: 7477425
Abstract: A method for scanning an image of media comprises biasing a scanner carriage for movement relative to a platen and releasing the carriage to move relative to the platen, the carriage scanning an image with a scanner head disposed therein. An image scanner comprises a housing, a platen disposed on the housing, a carriage disposed in the housing, the carriage comprising a scanner head adapted for scanning an image, a biasable drive moving the carriage relative to the platen for high-speed scans, and a drive mechanism loading the biasable drive for the high-speed scans and moving the carriage relative to the platen for low-speed scans. An encoder for sensing position of a scanner carriage comprises a grating disposed in a scanner housing, and an optical sensor for sensing the grating during biased movement of a scanner carriage, the sensor providing carriage position information for rastering an image of scanned media.

  • Patent number: 7457579
Abstract: A document size sensor is disposed on a document feed path at a location between a document tray and a juncture and on the front side in the primary scanning direction perpendicular to a document feed direction. The document size sensor is located between a sheet edge position for B4-size document sheet and a sheet edge position for A 4 -size document sheet, which are situated on the front side in the primary scanning direction. The document size sensor detects A3 - and B 4 -size document sheets but does not detect A 4 - or B5-size document sheet. Based on a detection signal from the document size sensor, judgment is made as to whether a document sheet fed from the document tray is a larger-sized document sheet or a smaller-sized document sheet.

  • Patent number: 6611353
Abstract: A method of imaging an item is provided comprising the steps of determining a media type of a first portion of an item to be imaged, determining a media type of a supply of media for an imaging device, determining if the first portion media type is compatible with the first supply media type based on a criterion, and imaging the first portion on one or more sheets of the first supply media type using the imaging device if the first portion media type is compatible with the first supply media type. At least one of the determining steps is performed by sensing for multiple media types. Sensing the media type is preferably performed by at least one sensor.

  • Patent number: 5970304
Abstract: A continuous web substrate duplex printing system which can utilize a single and otherwise conventional or existing xerographic print engine (normally printing conventional cut sheet print substrates) of a standard width without substantial structural modification. Separate first and second image transfer stations are positioned in line with one another in the direction of movement of the endless surface imaging member, with said second image transfer station downstream of the first, for respectively transferring print images to the first and second sides of the continuous web sequentially without requiring a dual width imaging member or dual imaging members for duplex printing.

  • Patent number: 5860053
Abstract: A continuous web substrate duplex printing system which can utilize a single otherwise conventional or existing xerographic, print engine (normally printing conventional cut sheet substrates) without substantial structural modification, and without requiring plural print engines on opposite sides of the web. The continuous web may be fed uncut into the print engine to two transfer stations alternatingly engaging a single endless belt imaging surface, which two alternating transfer stations are in line with one another in the direction of movement of the imaging surface, with web inversion and a controlled expandable/contractible web loop in between those two transfer stations, for respectively transferring the page print images onto the two respective sides of the continuous web in sequential batches of plural first and second side images, in the proper page sequence and positions and without any spaces between page images along the web.

  • Patent number: RE42269
Abstract: A double side scanner module which consists of a U-shaped inversion device and two image information reading devices is provided for reading images on the two sides of an original in a single pass. The U-shaped inversion device has two ends for providing a paper feeding path and a paper output path respectively. The two ends are at the same side for the convenience of operation. At both of the two ends, there is a glass window. Beneath each of the glass windows, there is an image information reading device. When an original is fed into the paper feeding end and conveyed through the first glass window, the first image information reading device starts to read the image on the first side of the original. When the original is conveyed through the U-shaped inversion device, the scanned side will be inverted to the other side.
