Alternate Unicyclic Flush Patents (Class 4/325)
  • Patent number: 4601071
Abstract: A flushing system for rapidly delivering a given volume of water supplied to an accumulating chamber (5) from an automatically or manually operated valve (6) has a float-controlled discharge valve (19) which is arranged to be opened when said given volume of water has been delivered to the accumulating chamber (5) and the float is located at a corresponding level in said chamber. A supply pipe (13) extends downwardly in the accumulating chamber (5) towards the outlet (3), and a valve housing (19) is slidably arranged, together with the float, on the water supply pipe. In a closing position of the valve housing, the lower edge part of the valve encircles the outlet. In an opening position of the valve housing, with water in the accumulating chamber, the valve housing is lifted from the seating. The lower end of the supply pipe is formed with a valve body (17) arranged, together with the valve housing, to form a pressure chamber (24) having a leakage opening.

  • Patent number: 4593419
Abstract: A buoyancy control unit for the flapper-type ball valve of a water closet flushing unit includes a flexible air release metering tube of a smooth plastic connected to the outer peripheral portion of the flapper valve ball and extended upwardly from the stored water level. An adjustable meter valve is secured about the tube to adjustably collapse the tube for metering flow of air. A simple strap hanger has an offset apertured support tab through which the tube passes and on which the meter valve rests. The opposite strap end is bent and hooked over the edge of the tank. A stick pin is secured in the ball end of the tube and the tube is secured in a pin threader which passes through the opened bottom of the ball and the tube opening to insert the tube with the pin abutting the interior of the float ball.

  • Patent number: 4485501
Abstract: A toilet flush mechanism conserves water by offering a choice made by the direction of rotation of the flushing handle of either actuating a first lever initiating the discharge of a full tank of water or actuating a second lever initiating the discharge of a predetermined fraction of the water in the full tank, herein designated a mini-flush. A flapper valve controlling the discharge of water from the tank is opened by the actuation of either of the levers, is permitted to close in conventional fashion when the tank is empty upon first lever actuation and is closed by a downward thrust of a striker upon second lever actuation. A water level responsive device including a second float triggers the striker and acts independently of the ballcock valve and float which maintains the full level of water in the conventional manner.

  • Patent number: 4483024
Abstract: An overflow pipe in a water closet supports a valve arm which carries a valve for opening and closing an outlet in the bottom of the tank. A first float is connected to the outer end of the valve arm to maintain the valve in an open position until the water level falls below a predetermined level. A second float is carried on a float arm pivoted intermediate its ends to the support. Cooperating lock means are provided on the end of the float arms opposite the float and in the travel path of the valve arm whereby a horizontally disposed pin on the valve arm is adapted to engage a horizontal surface on the adjacent end of the float arm and move therealong into locking engagement with a vertical shoulder thereby holding the valve in an open position until the water level in the tank falls below a second predetermined lower level thereby releasing the valve arm to return the valve to its closed position. A trip handle is connected to the first float for initially moving the valve to an open position.

  • Patent number: 4455694
Abstract: A clip-on attachment is disclosed by which an unskilled homeowner can easily transform his existing toilet or a new one into a water-saving device wherein either a total or partial flush can be selected at the option of a user. In the preferred embodiment, the attachment comprises a force-down wire which can be easily clipped onto any standard flapper flush valve, a lever arm having a lower end portion which can pivot against the wire to prematurely force the valve to close, a weighted float attached to the top of the lever arm near the full water line of the tank, and a latch to selectively prevent or allow the float to drop with the upper level of water in the tank during flushing of the toilet. If a user decides that a partial flush is sufficient to evacuate the bowl, the latch is positioned to allow the float to freely drop with the water level. As the float drops, the lever arm pivots and forces the valve to prematurely close before the tank is completely emptied.

  • Patent number: 4447919
Abstract: A device for controlling the discharge of water from a toilet tank, in either a full flush mode or a partial flush mode, utilizes an opening mechanism that produces the full flush in its normal condition and without need for any extraordinary manipulation. Shifting the operating handle inwardly, while rotating it in the customary manner, will produce a partial discharge of the contents. The device includes a biasing member, which engages a moving part of the valve assembly to exert a closing bias thereupon, but which does not unduly limit the movement of the valve plug so as to constrain it to less than a fully open position.

  • Patent number: 4225987
Abstract: A water saving apparatus for a tank flush mechanism in which the trapped air in the flush discharge valve is vented to terminate the flush when the water level in the tank drops to a predetermined level. A pair of water level responsive actuators, set to respond at different water levels, cooperate with a normally closed vent valve coupled to the air chamber in the flush discharge valve. As the water level in the tank drops after a flush is initiated, the actuator set at the higher level in the tank will normally respond first to open the vent valve to exhaust the air from the discharge valve and terminate the flush. To provide a large volume flush, the higher level responsive actuator is rendered non-responsive by the user's manipulation of the flush handle, thereby allowing the flushing action to continue until the other actuator responds to the falling water level to open the vent valve.

  • Patent number: 4216555
Abstract: A dual flush system tank adapted to provide either a full flush or a partial flush at the option of the user. The control handle is actuated normally to produce a full flush. If a partial flush is desired, the control handle is held in its depressed condition for two or three seconds after which it is released. This produces a partial flush. A partial flush is produced by a buoyant reseating weight which will float down with the falling level of liquid in the tank to depress the flush ball and prematurely reseat it in its outlet seat when only part of the liquid has been discharged from the tank. The reseating weight is provided with a latch actuated by the flush handle. For a full flush, the latch is released but is immediately re-engaged before the reseating weight moves downwardly in the tank and is hence latched against premature seating of the flush bal.

The piston and plug/valve secured to the overflow tube are lifted from a normally closed position by a conventional pivoting handle mechanism. The piston-cylinder dash pot determines the water volume of a particular flush by controlling the rate of descent of the weighted plug/valve. The vortex generating element works in combination with the walls of the raised plug/valve to generate an energetic fluid vortex as the water flows from the tank into the toilet bowl. The vortex generated by the generating element is complementary to vortex generating elements within the toilet basin to increase washing action in the toilet bowl. The above combination of elements significantly reduces the volume of water required for complete flushing action.

The conventional flush uses the full contents of the flush tank and is selected when solid waste must be flushed through the toilet.
