  • Patent number: 5361428
Abstract: A splash guard for installation about a pair of substantially horizontally extending rails of a transfer bench for cooperating with a shower curtain to prevent water from splashing out of a shower stall or bath tub while the transfer bench is positioned to extend into and out of the stall or tub for supporting an invalid or disabled person. The splash guard includes at least one substantially flat member that is slotted to define one or more rail-receiving passages that permit the splash guard to be installed on and removed from the horizontally extending rails of the transfer bench. In preferred practice, the splash guard is defined by at least two substantially flat members that, when installed on the rails of a transfer bench, extend substantially vertically, side-by-side, with most of the open-slot area of one of the flat members being closed by non-slotted portions of one or more of the other flat members to prevent water from being splashed through the rail-receiving passages.

  • Patent number: 5351739
Abstract: A safety net suspended from a shower curtain rod in addition to the shower curtain for safety in the event of a fall. The safety net provides a structure for someone to grasp during the fall to either slow the fall or stop it before injuries occur. The netting is preferably made of NYLON in a strength sufficient to support the weight of an adult, and has a band along one side with a series of grommets attached to it. The rod is made to be stronger than a typical shower rod, preferably of the type that has a channel running lengthwise in it for supporting of a series of carriers. The exposed end of each carrier has a button that will pass through one of the grommets so that the netting can be hung by the grommets from the carriers.

  • Patent number: 5007120
Abstract: A device for use with and for controlling the position of a shower curtain of the type which may be mounted on a rod above the outside rim of a bathtub. Such shower curtains are usually suspended by curtain hooks slidable along the rod so that the curtain can be pulled between an open position adjacent one end of the bathtub to a closed position and thereby close off a shower area. The device of the present invention functions to hold the curtain away from the user of the shower and to further encourage the lower edge of the curtain to remain in engagement with the inside of the side wall of the tub below the outside rim thereof and thereby prevents cold air form entering the shower area. The device includes a downwardly extending section depending from a mounting section which is supported on the curtain rod, the downwardly extending section having a curtain engaging lower end.

  • Patent number: 4916764
Abstract: A bathtub shower curtain assembly includes a supporting frame structure designed to replace conventional shower door or curtain constructions associated with a bathtub. One end of the frame structure includes a vertically positioned case in which a rolled, retractable shower curtain is mounted, while a leading edge of the curtain extends outwardly from the case with a handle being attached to a midportion of the extending edge. Top and bottom edges of the curtain are retained in guide tracks forming a part of the supporting structure, so that the curtain may be drawn across the bathtub to form an enclosure in the manner of a conventional shower curtain. When not in use, the shower curtain may be retracted into the case in a manner similar to a window shade, while wipers are provided on opposite sides of the case opening to remove water and dirt from the curtain during its retraction.

  • Patent number: 4777673
Abstract: This invention relates to a vertically drawn shower curtain having a raised position and a lowered position and being movable therebetween, for preventing water from escaping from a shower enclosure. The shower curtain is composed of waterproof panels, flexible hanging straps, clamps, and drawstrings. In the lowered position, the hanging straps support the panels in an inwardly overlapping relationship. The hanging straps are attached to the upper edge of each panel, leaving the lower edge free to rotate inwardly. The hanging straps have guides for the drawstrings. The drawstrings are attached to the lowest panel, are lead through the guides, and then through an eyelet on the clamp. All drawstrings terminate in a single pull ring. In the raised position, the panels are supported in a substantially nested relationship, by the combination of the drawstrings and clamps. The shower curtain may also include a valence panel, supported by the clamps, to hide the workings of the drawstrings and the clamps.
