  • Patent number: 4955093
Abstract: An elongated shelf member that may be positioned across the width of a bath tub. A reading easel is pivotally hinged to the top surface of the shelf member and it may be collapsed into a recess formed in the top surface of the shelf member so that it's top surface is flush therewith. The bottom surface of the shelf has a grid-like reinforcing frame integrally formed therewith to provide sufficient strength to the shelf member so that it may be used as a bench to sit upon while bathing in the bath tub. Position securing assemblies are attached to the bottom surface of the shelf member adjacent its opposite side edges and they are slidable inwardly and outwardly so that they may be positioned against the lateral side walls of bath tubs having different widths. Suction cups are attached to the position securing assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4953241
Abstract: An improved bathtub with a door for easy access by older and physically handicapped persons is disclosed. The bathtub includes an entrance wall with an opening which conforms to the shape of the door, and a front wall adjacent to the entrance wall. A seat is located in the tub with the forward edge of the seat located so as to provide a leg space between the seat and the front wall of the tub. The front edge of the door is attached adjacent to the front wall of the bathtub by means of a double axis hinge. When the door is opened, its front edge is guided directly inwardly in the tub by means of a tracking mechanism and the rear edge moves forward without any significant inward movement. In the fully opened position, the door is parallel to the front wall. The door is so configured that during movement it does not swing over the seat, and an occupant of the tub can be seated while the door is moved between its closed and open positions.

  • Patent number: 4941218
Abstract: A seat structure for providing easy access to bathtubs includes a seat platform retainer bracket having a top, horizontally extending, J-shape platform-retaining hook portion fastened along the top edge of a bathtub wall; a seat platform which is supported on the opposite side top edges of a bathtub; and a seat which is pivotally mounted on a vertical axis to the seat platform through the use of a pivot peg extending into both the seat and platform. The seat platform has an upstanding boss along its side adjacent to the retainer bracket, and when the structure is in use, the boss is in the hook portion of the retainer bracket to prevent any movement of the platform while it is supported on top of the tub.

  • Patent number: 4809368
Abstract: A shower and bath tub is adjustable into an upwardly inclined position (A), whereby the tub has a seat (35) on which a person (41) may sit when the tub is in its upwardly inclined position. The seat has two sitting surfaces (36a, 37a) on opposite sides of a forwardly open space (38). In order to prevent faeces from the person sitting on the seat from ending up in the tub, and prevent showering water when showering the abdomen of said person to gather in the tub and/or flow out on the floor, the space (38) may receive a basin (42), which is removable from the space, for collecting faeces from said person (41), and communicates with an output (50) which may be opened to permit discharge of showering water flowing down through the space from the tub (1) when said tub is in its upwardly inclined position (A) and the abdomal parts of a person sitting on the sitting surfaces are showered by means of the shower (64).

  • Patent number: 4534074
Abstract: An apparatus for enabling persons with impaired mobility to enter and leave a bathtub includes a water inflatable shell having a shape such that when fully inflated the shell wedges between opposed bathtub sidewalls and has a top tapering to a platform at about the level of the top of the sidewalls so that the person may lower and raise himself into and out of the bathtub by releasing and adding water from and to the shell, respectively, and the period of time required to transit a distance between the top of the sidewalls and below the top of the sidewalls is briefer than a comparable distance below the top of the sidewalls by virtue of the reduced volume of the tapered top of the shell. Horizontal tubes of elliptical cross section contribute to the tapered shape of the top and add stability.

  • Patent number: 4520515
Abstract: A three point clamping means is employed to secure one end of a shower bench to the edge of a bathtub. The bench includes two vertical feet which sit inside the bathtub, a pair of rails connected to said vertical feet and a clamping section. A chair unit is attachable to the rails and can be conveniently locked in position with respect thereto. A pair of C-shaped legs extend beyond the bathtub and make contact with the outside edge of said bathtub at two points. One point clamping contact is made on the inside of the bathtub by a single depending foot which includes a resilient pad mounted thereon. The depending foot is carried on a cross-brace slidably supported by said two rails and driven by a threaded crank mechanism. Rotation of the crank squeezes the bathtub edge at three points, namely, by the movable depending foot on the inside and by the two stationary C-shaped leg means on the outside. The improved clamping means is very easy to use and extremely secure compared to prior art clamping devices.

  • Patent number: 4475256
Abstract: A shower bench apparatus includes a positively engagable non-tipping chair and an easily operable clamping mechanism for attaching the apparatus to the side of a bathtub. The seat of the chair includes a pair of front hook-like brackets for engaging a first rail of the bench and a pair of craddle-like brackets near the rear of said seat for engaging the second rail of the bench. Locking screws are used to positively attach the rear craddling brackets to the second rail. It is virtually impossible to tip the chair over backwards due to the positive engagement of the front hook brackets. The chair may be reversed 180.degree. and repositioned with a minimum of effort. The device is readily clampable to the edge of a bathtub by means of a clamping mechanism driven by a single, easily manipulatable knob.

  • Patent number: 4385408
Abstract: A sanitary cushioning device for sink bowl edges is disclosed including a platform having a first and a second leg extending downwardly approximately perpendicular with respect thereto to define a slot therebelow. The slot is adapted to receive a sink bowl edge such as often found in a beauty parlor or haircutting salon. The device cushions the edge of the sink such that when a customer places his head in the sink bowl for washing the back of his neck will be cushioned for comfort. The device is usable with a great variety of different types of sink configurations due to the thick, soft resilient nature of the material. A water repellent covering is detachably securable onto the device to prevent water from contacting the foam rubber material. The device is held in place and the water resistant covering is held in place on the sink edge by the inwardly directed bias of the resilient foam rubber downwardly extending legs.

  • Patent number: 4254517
Abstract: An improved inflatable cushion lift assembly for use in a bathtub by a person taking a bath. The lift assembly is positioned on the floor of a bathtub and is connected to the bathtub faucet to inflate the cushion. The cushion may be deflated while a person is sitting thereon to lower a person to the floor of the tub. Furthermore, the cushion may be inflated while the person is sitting on the cushion on the floor of the tub to raise the user upwardly to allow the user to exit the tub easily. The present improvement inhibits undesired movement of the cushion while being used by utilizing a rigid bottom panel and/or rigid top panel. Furthermore, the interior of the cushion may be provided with baffles or the like for dampening water oscillations within the cushion. The cushion, for reasons of stability, may also be tiered or formed in layers such that the cushion inflates or deflates in stages.
