    Abstract: A display device is disclosed which comprisees a plurality of positive lenses disposed in a concavely curved lens array as seen by an observer and a plurality of substantially concavely curved pictures respectively associated with the lenses. Each of the pictures is disposed behind the respective lens and is located substantially at or within the focal length of the respective lens. The pictures each comprise a plurality of picture elements such that, when the lens array is viewed from different angles by an observer, the observer is able to perceive a composite image formed from magnified images of the picture elements of different ones of the pictures.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a unique tamperproof security card comprised of a transparent upper layer having narrow parallel lenses on the outer surface, and an image containing substrate, said two layers forming a lenticular system by which images on the substrate are selectively visible depending upon the angle from which the card is viewed. By incorporating into a selectively visible image the information necessary to verify the identify of the cardholder, e.g. the cardholder's photograph or signature, the card may be rendered substantially tamperproof.

The method is also capable of use to record a change in scenery on a negative film during a time duration.

    Abstract: A lenticular screen display designed for viewing in sunlight which comprises an array of parallel, horizontally arranged cylindrical lenticules with a sequence of animated images on a section located in the top portion of the focal plane of the lenticules, and means for preventing the sun's rays from focusing on the focal plane of the lenticules so as to prevent burning the image bearing sections. The means for preventing the sun's rays from focusing on the image bearing section can be diffusers or reflectors located in the lenticule at the appropriate position. Another means is to alter the focal length of the lower portion of the lenticules so it is either less or greater than the focal length of the top portion. A further means is to make the top portion of the front surface of the lenticule flat.

    Abstract: An improved roadway sign comprising a light retroreflective indicia region and colored retroreflective background region is provided. The retroreflective properties of the regions are selected such that the ratio of the retroreflective brightness of the indicia to that of the background is substantially larger at observation locations within the legibility zone for the sign, than the ratio is at observation locations outside the legibility zone. The sign is conspicuous by virtue of the bright retroreflection and distinctive color of the background outside the legibility zone, yet is legible because of the increased contrast ratio of the indicia to the background in the legibility zone.

    Abstract: A picture display panel is provided having an envelope with internal reinforcement partitions formed onto a display window. The display window is provided with substantially V-shaped grooves on the outside opposite to contact surfaces with the reinforcement partitions. The reinforcement partitions thus become substantially invisible from the outside. The outermost edges of these V-shaped grooves are preferably rounded, and the picture display window surface between juxtaposed grooves may be convexly curved into cylindrical lenses to make the reinforcement partitions even more invisible.

    Abstract: A lenticular device is disclosed having a lens array with one or more lenticular convex ridges joined by cusped or concave valleys forming lens elements on one of its surfaces. In addition, the lenticular array is uniformly separated from a message transmitting surface by an air space directly related to a field of view of no more than 30.degree. determined by the converging light rays at the focal point. The carrier sheet or message is a plurality of messages resolved from a series of linear segments in the form of binary lineations placed in focus relative to the lens array. By establishing a proportional relationship between lens aperture and focal length, the rate of message change is predetermined for any prescribed viewing situation. Surface interference caused by reflection, chromatic diffraction, and other light loss is controlled by the relationship of optical design, and optical quality, coupled with other structural elements.
