Abstract: A recording apparatus has a memory for storing information entered from a key input device, whereby the stored information can be used to rapidly and precisely position erasing means at a previously recorded indicium for erasure thereof. The apparatus may also have at least one drive system which controls the printing pressure, the amount of printing ribbon feeding, or the amount of printing sheet feeding, and a memory for storing information to regulate the drive systems. One embodiment of the apparatus is an electronic typewriter.

Abstract: A method for backspacing and/or backspacing/erasing on a computer, electronic, or other keyboard comprises activation of the backspacing function via thumb movement. Such activation can be accomplished more easily, more efficiently, and more ergonomically effectively than prior art methods because it can be done without averting the eyes from the text copy and does not entail moving or uncomfortable stretching of the hands.

Abstract: A serial printer having a carriage adapted to be shifted transversely of a paper and a type cylinder carried by the carriage in such a manner as to be able to be shifted up and down and to be rotated, so that the printing is effected by pressing the desired type character against the paper. The improvement comprises that the vertical shifting of the type cylinder, rotation of the type cylinder, driving of the hammer, shifting of the carriage and other kinds of operation are performed by the force derived from a single motor, and that operation such as spacing and back spacing of the carriage, paper feeding and so forth is achieved when the type cylinder selects a visible position.

Abstract: An error correcting typewriter wherein a backspace correction key is operative to read an incorrect character from memory, to in turn reversely move a stepper motor controlled carriage twice the width of a character in error and then forwardly the width of the character in error and then to effect overstrike printing of the character in error.
