Abstract: Provided is a transfer device capable of maintaining a constant tension of band-shaped ribbon from the start till the end of operation requiring no action by a user. While band-shaped ribbon (F) is being supplied, a feed shaft unit (4) and a feed drive gear (3) rotate. In accordance with their rotations, a movable plate (6) screw-retreats so that the interval between the movable plate (6) and the surface of the feed drive gear (3) is increased in the axial direction. Consequently, the force of a coil spring (5) is reduced and the braking force (a force to press the surface of the feed drive gear (3) to stop its rotation) is gradually decreased.

At least at the feed reel side, a clutch mechanism is provided between a driven member of a tape winding portion and a drive side rotary gear for rotating and driving it, and its power transmission makes use of the frictional engaging force in thrust direction between the driven member and drive side rotary gear. This frictional engaging force can be set by properly adjusting the dimensional relation in thrust direction between the mutual constituent members, and therefore the designing and manufacturing conditions of the constituent members are less strict, manufacture is easy, assembling is easy, and hence the manufacturing cost and device cost can be lowered.

Abstract: A typewriter having an automatic erasing function, having an erasing device responsive to an erasure-start key, for effecting an erasing operation to successively erase the characters printed by a printing device, and a controller responsive to the erasure-stop key, for permitting the erasing device to interrupt the erasing operation. The typewriter has an input buffer for storing input data which is entered through a keyboard while the erasing device is operated, the typewriter. The typewriter may be arranged so that the input buffer is cleared upon operation of an erasure-stop key. The above arrangement may be adapted to erase successive words on a display device as character and space data are retrieved from a memory. In this case, a device may be provided to suspend a continuous erasing operation for a predetermined time each time the space data representative of a space between the words has been retrieved from the memory after at least one character has been erased.

  • Patent number: 4673303
Abstract: A postage meter utilizing an offset printing roll. A die plate carried by the roll has a first region for receiving thereon fixed information such as the city and state, and a second region for receiving thereon variable information such as the date and postage amount. At the beginning of a revolution of the printing roll, the second region is depressed and an inking roll applies ink to the first region. Then the second region is moved into the plane of the first region and an ink jet printing device projects ink droplets onto the second region to form the variable information thereon. The quality of the printed form of the variable information is sensed. If acceptable, a document is printed. If unacceptable, the first and second regions are both wiped clean and the entire operation is repeated. The cleaning operation can employ an hydrophilic oil which is applied to the printing roll.

Abstract: An eraser of the present invention comprises a magazine having set therein a carriage means for mounting a freely turning first reel loaded with an erasing ink transfer tape and a second reel for winding up the used erasing ink transfer tape and a head for bending or curving the erasing ink transfer tape before it is wound up by the second reel wherein at least the bent or curved portion of the tape is projecting with respect to the magazine. The known defects of the conventional erasing ink, such as requiring a relatively long waiting time before rewriting, difficulty of rewriting due to brush unevenness and inconvenience caused by drying and solidifying of erasing ink as well as the fatal defect of the conventional eraser of transfer type that it is usable only for typewriter, is eliminated with present invention. The invention provides a handy eraser that is quite easy to use.

  • Patent number: 4618275
Abstract: Method for resetting the print head of a typewriter or similar machine to a starting position. In a processor-controlled typewriter or similar machine, the steps of a vertical repositioning of the recording medium are added and stored. If the added value indicates an upward movement of the recording medium, this value is cancelled as a character is printed. If, contrarily, a downward movement of the recording medium is indicated, the value is retained. Moreover, the current horizontal position of the printing head and, when it is repositioned horizontally, also the position of the last printed character, are stored. Upon initiation of an automatic reset function of the printing head to the end of the printed text, after a repositioning in horizontal and/or vertical direction, for instance for purposes of a correction, the stored information is evaluated for activation of the printing head drive and the recording medium drive.
