Including Error Detection Patents (Class 400/74)
  • Patent number: 11947413
Abstract: A method for more effectively recording information in system logs is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes detecting errors on a system such as a host system or storage system over a specified period of time. The method stores information associated with the errors in a memory buffer. The method further preprocesses the information in the memory buffer to condense the information and remove duplication. In certain embodiments, this preprocessing includes grouping errors by error type and providing a single stack trace or other information per error type. The method then outputs the preprocessed information to a log file. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11573303
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system for detecting rotational speed and early failures of an electronic device. The system includes a rotating disk affixed to a rotating shaft of the electronic device. The rotating disk has projections extending from its periphery. A time of flight ranging system determines distance to the projections extending from the rotating disk. Processing circuitry determines a rotational speed of the rotating shaft from the determined distances to the projections extending from the rotating disk, and detects whether the electronic device is undergoing an early failure from the determined distances to the projections extending from the rotating disk. Rotational speed is determined from the time between successive peaks in the determined distances, and early failures (for example, due to wobble of the shaft) are determined where the peaks vary unexpectedly in magnitude.

To solve this problem, an output gamma table used to output measurement patches is set to linearly correct the printer print characteristics. Patches are output and their densities are measured. A reverse table of a “signal value—density” table is generated, and is smoothed using a recursive curve. The smoothed reverse table is finely adjusted to generate an intermediate output gamma table. • Patent number: 7219973
Abstract: The present invention provides an image-forming device that can record an image onto a rewritable image recording medium. Prior to recording a predetermined image, the medium is set and a test image for measuring the density is recorded thereon. When the density is determined to be within an allowable range, the predetermined image is recorded under certain image recording conditions and then discharged to a discharging tray. However, should the density be outside the allowable range, the conditions are changed and another test image is recorded to the medium. If after repeated density measurements the density is not within an allowable range, the device determines that the medium is defective and discharges it to an error tray.

Abstract: A determining method and the like is achieved for determining more accurately whether or not ink has been ejected. A determining method for determining whether or not ink was ejected from a plurality of nozzles includes a step of printing a non-ejection print pattern, a step of obtaining an output value upon non-ejection that is output based on the light that has been emitted toward the non-ejection print pattern, a step of printing an all-ejection print pattern, a step of obtaining an output value upon ejection that is output based on the light emitted toward the all-ejection print pattern, a step of setting a threshold value between the output value upon non-ejection and the output value upon ejection, and a step of comparing the threshold value with an output value that is output from a light-receiving section based on the light that has been emitted toward the print patterns.

  • Patent number: 6991387
Abstract: In a printing sheet conveying direction, registration adjustment patterns can be printed in a large area on a printing sheet and can be read. Specifically, along a first feeding path, printing heads print registration adjustment patterns in a first area on a printing sheet, and a sensor measures the densities of the patterns on the printing sheet after it has been reversely fed. A printing sheet can be reversely fed along a horizontal second feeding path without contacting the PE sensor lever. In this state, the printing sheet is fed in the forward direction so that a second area for printing registration adjustment patterns is adjacent to the area A, and the printing heads sequentially print registration adjustment patterns. The printing sheet is then reversely conveyed a predetermined distance and the densities of the patterns are measured.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for correcting a hang condition caused by an unanticipated exception during a printing process. The method may include providing a set of predetermined rules according to which the print process modules interact to control the printing process. The method further may include monitoring, from a self-correcting module, a state of each of a plurality of the print process modules. The method may also include determining that the printing device is hung during a printing process, based on at least one predetermined rule and the state of at least one print process module, and setting the state of at least one print process module to a default condition.

  • Patent number: 6945626
Abstract: In a multi-valued printer that uses discontinuous index patterns, if a tone correction table is generated using sampled density patches, a table which is different from a table to be obtained and has no inflection point is obtained, and the print density characteristics after tone correction suffer discontinuity. The generated table undergoes index component correction, thus generating a tone correction table.

  • Patent number: 6887000
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of correcting the position of a printed image on a printable medium, the image being generated by a computer and printed on the printable medium by a printer controlled by the computer, in which the computer executes a print operation to print an image onto a printable medium; obtains co-ordinates which define the actual position of the image printed as well as the co-ordinates of a desired position of the image; and responds to the difference between the required and the actual positions to correct the image which would be generated by the computer in the next execution of the print operation such that it will be printed at the correct position. The invention also provides a computer program for implementing this method, and a system, comprising a computer and a printer, which implements the program.

  • Patent number: 6872017
Abstract: A printer prints a black mark BM having a left mark edge BMa and a right mark edge BMb on a paper P. An encoder offset SH_L_EDG for the left mark edge BMa is set based on the difference between the carriage position (encoder value PR_ENC_L) that is detected when the print head 10 prints the left mark edge BMa and the carriage position (encoder value SEN_ENC_L) that is detected when the media sensor 68 detects the left mark edge BMa. Similarly, an encoder offset SH_R_EDG for the right mark edge BMb is set based on the difference between the carriage position (encoder value PR_ENC_R) that is detected when the print head 10 prints the right mark edge BMb and the carriage position (encoder value SEN_ENC_R) that is detected when the media sensor 68 detects the right mark edge BMb. In this way, the printer can suppress the effects of mounting error and can prevent a decline in accuracy when detecting edges of the paper P.

  • Patent number: 6863459
Abstract: A medium-edge setting device detects edges of a paper (S110) and acquires data for left and right edge candidate positions (S120). The medium-edge setting device determines whether the difference between left and right center-edge distances is less than or equal to a predetermined value (S150). If so (S150: YES), the right edge position is set to the right edge candidate position and the left edge position is set to the left edge candidate position (S160). If not (S150: NO), the paper is conveyed a predetermined amount (S190) and the paper edge detection is repeated. If the repetitions of the paper-edge detecting process exceed a predetermined number (S180: NO), then the larger of the left and right center-edge distances is set as the distance from the center of the paper to each edge position, and the left and right edge positions are set according to this distance (S200, S210, S220).
