Patent number: 5533823Abstract: A sealed lipstick dispenser assembly has a base, a sleeve mounted within the base containing a lipstick pomade, and a cover mounted over the base and receiving a portion of the sleeve and pomade within a hollow interior. A bellows-like sealing member defines a sealing surface on one end, and a plurality of infolded or pleated portions to permit axial extension and retraction of the sealing surface. The sealing member is mounted on the base of the cover within the hollow interior, with the sealing surface on its free end. Upon closure of the cover on the base, the sealing surface is pressed into engagement with a lip of the sleeve due to the resilient nature of the infolded portions of the sealing member to form a fluid-tight seal, and thereby seal the lipstick pomade within the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1995Date of Patent: July 9, 1996Assignee: Rexam Cosmetic Packaging Inc.Inventors: Robert L. Patent number: 5468082Abstract: A writing instrument has an ink reservoir under pressure. Compressed ink in the ink reservoir is supplied through an ink passage to a ball tip also acting as a valve body. A push rod is inserted in the ink passage and is intended to urge the ball forward. The ball tip is in a closed state when the writing instrument is used and is in an open state when the writing instrument is used for supplying ink. A stirring weight is housed in the ink reservoir. When the writing instrument is swung, the stirring weight is moved to stir ink in the ink reservoir. The stirring weight interferes with the push rod to displace it. The push rod is displaced to stir ink in the ink passage whereby ink containing air and/or air bubbles in the ink passage is removed.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1994Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Inventor: Jiro Hori

Patent number: 5451114Abstract: A lead portion 18 and a cap mounting portion 34 are provided at a lead end portion of a main shaft 10 of a liquid applicator. A projected portion 36 is formed on an outer circumferential surface of the cap mounting portion 34, A cap mountable to this main shaft is formed with lines of projection 30, 32 on inner circumferential surfaces of bottom and intermediate end portions thereof respectively. The projection 30 is movable over the projected portion 36, whereas the projection 32 is engageable with an outer circumferential surface 19 of the lead portion 18. The respective portions are positioned relative to one another such that the projection 32 is engageable with the outer circumferential surface 19 after the projection 30 moves over the projected portion 36. Accordingly, there can be prevented a loss of airtightness in the cap due to an incomplete cap mounting operation without impairing the facility to mount the cap to the main shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1994Date of Patent: September 19, 1995Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Sakura KurepasuInventor: Masayuki Ishigaki

Patent number: 5336011Abstract: An improved protective storage cap for a rod-shaped device or instrument, particularly a fountain pen, wherein the female threads for securing the device within the cap are disposed within an axially and rotationally moveable ring. The ring is held stationary in the cap by the axial thrust of a compression spring while the male threads of the device are being rotationally engaged with or disengaged from the female threads of the cap. The cap cannot be overtightened and thereby damaged because further rotation of the device after full engagement of the threads serves only to overcome the restraining thrust of the spring and the moveable ring simply rotates in its cap with the device. The axial freedom of the ring and spring also permit the device to enter the cap to a depth sufficient to form a snap seal between the working end of the device and a chamber recessed within the cap, whereby the tool of the device, for example the writing nib of a fountain pen, sealingly is isolated from the outside environment.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1993Date of Patent: August 9, 1994Assignee: Precision Handling Devices IncInventors: Gregory A. Patent number: 4984921Abstract: A sealing cap, particularly for sealing against a non-circular sealing surface about an opening of a container (such as a wide roller type roll-on container), wherein the sealing cap includes a closure, a sealing member in the form of a non-circular gasket arranged within the closure for sealing against the non-circular sealing surface of the container, and an alignment disk in the closure for aligning the sealing gasket with the non-circular sealing surface during relative rotation of the sealing cap and container. The alignment disk and sealing gasket are rotatably supported within the closure. The alignment disk includes a non-cylindrical well for receiving the non-circular sealing surface of the container and a pair of opposed inclined surfaces for aligning the sealing gasket with the non-circular sealing surface during relative rotation of the container with the sealing cap. The alignment disc can be used in other applications than in a sealing cap, e.g.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1989Date of Patent: January 15, 1991Assignee: The Mennen CompanyInventor: Joseph E. Fattori
