Patent number: 7972072Abstract: To prevent faint writing or writing failure from occurring during a writing operation due to back shock and to reduce shock sound by using a simple structure, a pressure contact member protrudes from one surface or both surfaces on the side of a shaft tube and a knock body so as to come into sliding contact with each other, parts on the side of the shaft tube and the knock body being opposed to each other in a radial direction. Accordingly, even when the part on the side of the knock body retreats with respect to the part on the side of the shaft tube in terms of a releasing operation, a retreat speed of an ink tank becomes slow due to a friction resistance of the pressure contact member, and thus back shock remarkably reduces. As a result, ink does not flow to the ink tank in a reverse direction due to air introduced from a writing tip portion, and shock sound generated when the retreating ink tank returns to a normal position reduces.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2006Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Assignee: Zebra Co., Ltd.Inventors: Matsuhei Toyama, Hisatoshi Shibuya

Publication number: 20110103874Abstract: A pencil mechanism replaces a ballpoint pen refill and has an actuator for containing lead. A point of the mechanism is slidably mounted to the actuator and has a shoulder to engage a step in the pen when an end of the point projects from a writing end of the pen. The point has an open end for projecting the writing tip of the lead and a bushing for frictionally engaging the lead in the point to allow for, but resist axial movement of the lead. A point spring between actuator and point biases them apart and a clutch is slidably mounted to the actuator and point. The clutch has fingers for receiving lead and the actuator engages the clutch to close the fingers and fix the lead. Further forward movement of the actuator projects a writing tip of the lead from the pen as the shoulder engages the step to fix the writing tip in a writing position. The actuator is movable rearwardly for releasing the clutch and the lead and allowing the clutch to move rearwardly in the pen for a repeat of the lead feeding cycle.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2009Publication date: May 5, 2011Inventors: George Reekie, Nicholas M. Patent number: 6942411Abstract: A telescopic ball-point pen includes a tubular body, including a sliding axial tube, which in turn includes a refill tank. An interior surface of the body and an exterior surface of the sliding axial tube are threaded to form a driver screw portion, and an interior surface of the sliding axial tube and an exterior surface of the refill tank are threaded to form a follower screw portion. A pitch of the follower screw portion is greater than that of the driver screw portion so that the amount of front-and-back movement of the refill tank is greater than that of the sliding axial tube per rotation. A rear end of the sliding axial tube is fixed to a sheath. When the sheath and the body are rotated, the tip of a ball-point pen refill removably received within the refill tank is projected beyond, or received within, the pen.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2004Date of Patent: September 13, 2005Assignee: Katoh Kinzoku Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hiroyasu Kato

Patent number: 6914596Abstract: A Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) with retractable stylus comprises a retractable stylus, a housing, a stylus slot, and a push portion, wherein a contact pad is attached to the inner side of the push portion. The retractable stylus comprises a pen shaft having a release button, a pen body having an opening, and a spring situated inside the pen body. When an external force is applied to the pen shaft downward, the spring is compressed until the opening holding the release button; thus, the stylus is shortened. When the release button is set free from the opening, the spring elasticity ejects the pen shaft upward; thus, the stylus returns to the full-length condition. If the stylus is kept in the stylus slot, an external force applied to the push portion can make the contact pad press the release button; so the pen shaft is ejected upward by spring elasticity.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2002Date of Patent: July 5, 2005Assignee: High Tech Computer, Corp.Inventors: Chen-Kuang Liu, Ching-Shih Chen, Sheng-Ming Liu
