Abstract: A ring binder mechanism for retaining loose-leaf pages securely holds closed ring members together to prevent inadvertent loss of pages retained by the mechanism. The mechanism comprises a housing supporting two hinge plates for pivoting motion to open and close paired ring members mounted on the plates. Free ends of the paired ring members have interlocking configurations that securely join together when the ring members close. The configurations prevent misalignment of the closed ring members in all directions transverse to longitudinal centerlines of the ring members. The mechanism also includes locking elements that interact with the hinge plates to block their pivoting motion when the ring members are closed. This holds the free ends of the closed paired ring members together so that the interlocking configurations of the ring members remain interengaged.

Abstract: Binder apparatus are described. An example binder apparatus includes a housing comprising a plurality of lateral recesses or apertures and a first carrier rail having a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge, the housing engaging the first longitudinal edge. The example binder apparatus includes a second carrier rail having a third longitudinal edge and a fourth longitudinal edge, the housing engaging the third longitudinal edge, the second longitudinal edge hingably engaging the fourth longitudinal edge. The binder apparatus includes a slider comprising a plurality of protrusions to be received by at least some of the lateral recesses or apertures.

Abstract: A binding mechanism system including a first support portion including a first ring portion located thereon and a second support portion including a second ring portion located thereon. At least one of the first and second support portions is movable relative to the other between a closed position wherein the first and second ring portions contact to form a generally closed ring, and an open position wherein the first and second ring portions are spaced apart from each other. The binding mechanism further includes an indicator that is generally visible when the ring portions are in one of the open or closed position and that is generally not visible when the ring portions are in the other one of the open or closed positions.

Abstract: A binder mechanism is disclosed having a first ring assembly and a binding portion. The first ring assembly includes at least one first ring half. At least the first ring assembly or the binding portion are a pivotable half that is pivotable with respect to the other to a locked position about a first longitudinal axis. In the locked position, the first ring half is engaged with the binding portion cooperatively defining a loop that is substantially closed to retain a stack of papers or a workpiece. The first ring assembly and the binding portion are lockable with respect to each other in the locked position to prevent pivoting of the pivotable half from the locked position. At least one of the first ring assembly and the binding portion is movable with respect to the other from the locked position in an unlocking direction oriented at less than 180° from the longitudinal axis to permit the pivotable half to pivot about the longitudinal axis to an open position in which the loop is substantially open.

Abstract: A binding assembly includes first and second sheet retaining members which are releasably attached to a base member by first and second latching mechanisms. The sheet retaining members include a pair of side members which support a pair of pins and tubes onto which sheets of paper or other materials are placed. Each of the side members includes an engaging rod which is receivable in a channel provided in the base member to retain the sheet retaining members to the base member. Each of the latching mechanisms are independently pivotable about an axis perpendicular to the pins and tubes from a retaining position where the sheet retaining members are constrained to the base member, to a releasing position where the sheet retaining members may be detached from the base member.

Abstract: A binder ring mechanism (16) has a plurality of binder rings (18a-18c) for holding sheets of paper. Each binder ring includes a fixed section (20) and a movable section (22). All of the movable binder ring sections are commonly mounted on a bolt (36). A lever arm (52) is attached to one end of the bolt for movement of the lever arm to move the bolt and the binder ring sections mounted on the bolt. The bolt is movably mounted on a cover piece (24) for both rotational and sliding movement of the bolt. A recess (58) is formed in an endwall (56) of the cover piece and the lever arm includes a latch member (60) received in the recess to latch the lever arm in place when the binder rings are closed so to prevent inadvertent movement of the lever arm which might cause the binder rings to open. In addition, the cover piece has flaps (82, 84) extending diagonally outwardly therefrom for storing writing instruments in a ring binder (10) in which the binder ring mechanism is installed.

Abstract: A loose leaf binder includes a first half binder section having a plurality of curled fingers spaced regularly apart and a second half binder section having a corresponding plurality of correspondingly spaced curled fingers. Each of the first and second half binder sections include a plurality of protruding tabs and a plurality of tab openings, each of the plurality of protruding tabs of the first half binder section being capable of mating with a corresponding one of the plurality of tab openings of the second half binder section. When the first half binder section is mated with the second half binder section, the protruding tabs of both the first and second half binder sections snap-fit with corresponding tab openings of both the first and second half binder sections to form the loose leaf binder and to cause the curled fingers of the first and second half binder sections to overlap. The first half binder section may be identical to the second half binder section.

Abstract: A binder locking clip (100) used with a binder metal (10) having a locking member (50) with a slot (62) formed therein. The clip has a first leg (102) and a second leg (104). The legs are spaced apart from each other and one of the legs has a detent (106) formed in it. The detent fits in the slot and engages a post (56) with respect to which the slot is movable when the locking member is moved. The clip engages the post when the frame member is moved in a direction by which the binder metal can be opened to prevent movement of the locking member in that direction.

Abstract: A sliding loose leaf binder having a fixed part and a movable part is provided. The fixed part comprises a first base member, a plurality of mounting apertures, a plurality of a first top and bottom members of mating tracks, a plurality of first ring elements, and first elements of releasable locking means. The movable part comprises a second base member, a plurality of second top and bottom members of mating tracks, a plurality of second ring elements, and second elements of releasable locking means.The sliding loose-leaf binder can be open or closed by sliding the movable part in or out toward the fixed part along the mating tracks.

Abstract: A loose-leaf binder comprising, in combination, a first back strip having a plurality of split ring halves formed upright at given intervals along the outer edge thereof and a second back strip having similar ring halves formed along the outer edge thereof opposite to that of the first strip and adapted to engage end to end with the halves of the first strip. The first and second back strips are formed as discrete members separable from the combined state and have first and second lock members, respectively, at the both ends thereof in such manner that the lock members can engage with each other when the two strips are put together in the closed position. The two back strips also have, respectively, a first and a second sliding surfaces slidable relative to each other, and a first and a second guides extending substantially at right angles to the longitudinal directions of the two strips and formed to shapes complementary to each other so as to guide the sliding surfaces.

Abstract: A ring binder mechanism comprises a fixed part (10) for mounting on a folder, and a movable part (13) connected to the fixed part by a four-bar-chain linkage (15) allowing translational movement of the movable part relatively to the fixed part between an open position and a closed position. The movable part (13) is also connected to the fixed part (10) by a pair of resiliently deformable links (17) which provide a spring-loaded over-center device. Two pairs of paper-holding elements (18, 21) are provided, the elements of each pair being separated in the open position of the movable part (13) but being brought into engagement with one another in the closed position, so as to prevent removal of sheets of paper threaded thereon. The fixed part (10), the movable part (13), the paper-holding elements (18, 21), the four-bar-chain (15), and the over-center device (17) are integrally formed with one another as parts of a single plastics moulding.

Abstract: This album with interchangeable sheets has coupling elements for the sheets which are preferably made of plastics, are fixed on the inner side of the rear cover and can be opened after extracting closure profiled elements which are mutually aligned and are parallel to the spine of the binder. The sheets may easily be turned since they have slots which are particularly enlarged with respect to the cross section of the coupling elements. Furthermore a perfect alignment of the sheets is obtained in a very simple and original manner, by virtue of raised portions which also protrude from the inner side of the rear cover and act against an appropriately shaped inner edge of the sheets.

Abstract: A ring-type binder for retaining loose-leaf sheets of paper is disclosed. The binder has base and top members which are slidably secured to each other. Mounted to each of these members along and projecting from an edge are a plurality of half-ring members. With this configuration the base and top members can be slid between an open position and a closed position in which the half-rings of the top member are mated with the half-rings of the base member.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a binding mechanism for loose-leaf binder comprising, mounted on a support, at least two rings each constituted by a fixed vertical receiver pin, the upper end of which is hollow, a fixed, vertical, tubular hoop-guide and a movable hoop-shaped member engaged, in closed position, in the upper end of the pin and slidable vertically in the hoop-guide and pivoting in a plane parallel to the plane of the leaves, to come to open position. The simultaneous control of the movement of the hoops is effected by a slide provided with ramps, the lower ends of the hoops being engaged both in fixed ramps fast with the support and in the ramps for controlling the slide. The invention is particularly applicable to binders or folders for perforated leaves.
