The coupling 1, 50, 100 constrains relative rotational and translational movement between the frame members 2, 3 in use to a predetermined level which is determined by the material of the flexible body 12, 51, 101 and/or by mechanical limit stops 62, 63. A non flexible connection such as a rod 35 having flanges 36, 37 or a chain 90, 110 provides a mechanical connection between the mounting means 10, 11, 52, 53, 105, 106 in the event of failure of the flexible body 12, 51, 101.

Abstract: A latch member of a case or similar container blow-molded from thermoplastic material is pivotally and permanently secured to the case by a bearing formed substantially simultaneously with and from the same thermoplastic material as the body of the case. Formation of a permanent bond between the bearing member and the latch member is avoided by employing a latch member formed of material having a higher melt temperature than the material used in the formation of the main body of the case and the bearing member, and also by effecting relative movement between the latch member and the bearing member while the thermoplastic material forming the bearing member is still in a heated condition. Apparatuses for positioning the latch member within the mold are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5054562
Abstract: A hand-held power-driven tool for operating a work member in conditions in which fairly extreme vibrations are generated is constructed of rigid parts isolated from each other by elastomer shock-absorbing material arranged between the parts in laminar fashion in which certain of the layers are of different Shore A hardness as respects each other. The layers are also formed with different thicknesses and are introduced into an annular space between the parts in pourable condition, each layer being permitted to set up before the next layer is pourable, resulting in bonding of the elastomer layers to each other as well as to the parts. A novel supporting structure is disposed between the parts to space them in condition to receive the elastomer material and the structure is permitted to remain between the parts in such isolated or shock-absorbing fashion as to improve the vibration-minimizing charactreistics of the overall design.

Abstract: A noise and vibration damper for a shift lever assembly in a manually operable vehicle transmission is disclosed. The damper includes a hollow cylindrical housing having upper and lower pairs of aligned, transversely extending apertures. The upper end of a lower shift lever member extends upwardly into housing, while the lower end of an upper shift lever member extends downwardly into the housing. A transversely extending pin extends through apertures formed in the ends of each of the shift lever members and through their respective pair of apertures to secure the shift lever members to the housing. The ends of the pins are supported within the apertures by nylon bushings. The ends of the upper and lower shift lever members are spaced apart from one another and from the damper housing by a hollow cylindrical sleeve of vibration dampening material, such as polyurethane.

  • Patent number: 4923164
Abstract: Four orthagonally oriented rigid blades are fixed together along a side of each and taper to a common pointed bottom with a rigid top plate affixed across the top of the blades and a steel tube extends upwardly from the plate to receive and support a post such as a sign post, fence post or the like extending upwardly from the device. The invention is adapted to be driven into the ground to support and anchor posts. The invention also includes a "break away" embodiment incorporating a thick high density rubber retainer atop the rigid plate about the tube which has a flanged bottom beneath the rubber retainer and a rigid centrally apertured plate is bolted onto the top plate to hold the rubber retainer and tube on the top plate. A heavy blow to a post mounted in the tube will tilt the tube to pivot the flange thereof to deform the retainer and allow the tube and flange to flip out of the upper apertured plate as a break away feature without damage to the invention.

  • Patent number: 4776217
Abstract: A coupling for vibration testing comprises a pair of connecting links to be attached to a shaker head and to a driven fixture, respectively. Each of these has an axial passage through it and a convex spherical distal bearing surface. These bearing surfaces face each other. A center element has an axial passage through it and has opposite concave spherical bearing surfaces that face against the convex spherical bearing surfaces of the two connecting links. A low-friction coating or layer, i.e., fiber-reinforced PTFE, is applied to the convex bearing surfaces of the connecting links and provides a low-friction sliding surface against the mating surfaces of the center element. A preload bolt extends through the axial passages of the device and exerts a compressive axial preloading stress which exceeds the maximum vibrational force likely to be encountered.

A resilient buffer material is compressively adjustably positioned between a pair of dynamic adjacent load bearing components in a machine such that the amount of electrical resistance between the load bearing components can be varied without having to disassemble the machine. The buffer material is maintained in position between the load bearing components by compressing the buffer material an amount equal to 5 to 30% of its length to outwardly expand surfaces of the buffer material against the load bearing members.

  • Patent number: 4629359
Abstract: The power trowel of this invention has a chassis comprising a gear box and a prime mover and has a plurality of blades which engage a surface to be finished and which are driven by the prime mover, through the gear box, for substantially edgewise rotation about a vertical axis. An elongated handle for controlling movements of the machine across the surface has a pivotal connection to the chassis to be swingable up and down, but has an upper limit of such motion from which it is swingable downwardly. An elastically compressible shock absorber, confined between the handle and the chassis under compressive preload, tends to maintain the handle at that limit and is further compressed by downward force on the rear end of the handle. The center of gravity of the chassis is spaced forward of the vertical axis. Control of machine movements is minimally influenced by machine vibration, and is therefore more precise and less fatiguing.
