  • Patent number: 5904390
Abstract: A thermoformed thermoplastic truck bedliner has at least one pair of under-cut load restraint pockets formed by portions of opposed bedliner sidewalls. The pockets are recessed from the sidewall so that a load restraining member such as a 2.times.4 beam may be pressed downwardly to be snapped into engagement with the pockets. The pockets support the boards in a horizontal orientation, with the wide dimension of the board extending from front to back within the liner to give greater board stiffness against loads shifting from front to back. The pockets may be formed in either under the rail bedliners or in over the rail bedliners. In an alternative embodiment, each under-cut pocket is formed in a cross shape such that a board may be positioned horizontally or vertically.

  • Patent number: 5744691
Abstract: A method for treating contaminated solids such as contaminated soil or sludge includes feeding the solids into a preheater and pneumatically conveying the solids through the preheater by preheated primary air into and through an oxidation chamber by cocurrent flow. Secondary air is directed into the oxidation chamber through a plurality of perforations in the wall of the oxidation chamber to combine with and sustain the fluidized state of the solid-gas mixture. The primary air is preferably produced by an air blower which blows the air through a preheater to produce hot air. The temperature of the fluidized bed is controlled by the temperature of the primary air. The temperature should be hot enough that the lighter hydrocarbons spontaneously ignite in the oxidation chamber. The exothermic combustion causes the remaining organic material present in the contaminated solids to then vaporize and burn.

  • Patent number: 5319901
Abstract: A column and beam joint system is used to make possible the construction of a large tower such as an electrical transmission tower, which has at least three and probably four corner legs or columns which are interconnected and supported by a lattice structure of cross members. The columns have specialized channels extending substantially their full lengths and the cross members have specialized locking ends which lock into retaining structure defined in the channels, permitting braces to be inserted and locked in place at any selected point along the channel. A technique for connecting a cross member brace between a column and another cross member is also disclosed. All of the principle parts of the tower are pultruded composites which are either used in their longitudinally extended form or sectioned as required by the application.

  • Patent number: 5304011
Abstract: A wedgelock laminated joint is an integral building connection allowing the rapid, accurate, secure jointing of a structural joist with a vertical post. A lock notch is mated by sliding a joist beam tongue through a central receptacle within a post beam until tightly mated, and then secured by placing a wedge into a keyway, which is an upper portion of the post receptacle, and tapping it snugly into the wedge keyway. This creates a sturdy nail free fastening of the floor joist and vertical wall post, easily fastened or unfastened, held fast only by the wedge which is finally secured with a set screw after all the desired number of rib sections are erected, trued and horizontally connected.

  • Patent number: 5269619
Abstract: The connection has a connection piece (1) which has two displaceable wedges (4, 13) in a bearing housing (8) . These wedges (4, 13) can be displaced in the bearing housing (8) independently of one another by a guide bearing (15, 16). In the working position, the wedge (4) extends into a dovetailed longitudinal groove (20) of a sectional bar (2). The front side (5) of the wedge (4) is profiled and engages a correspondingly profiled wall (22) of the sectional bar (2) in a positive-locking manner. The wedge (4) spreads two clamping tongues of the bearing housing (8) against the flanks of the longitudinal groove (20). By pivoting the guide bearing (15), the wedge (4) can be retracted, and the connection can be separated. A second wedge (13) is inserted axially into the interior space of a second profiled piece (3). This wedge (13) spreads two brackets (11) of the bearing housing (8 ). Both sectional bars (2, 3) have the same design and may be cut off to any desired length.

Abstract: A joint-and-beam platform structure is disclosed, which is dismountably built by coupling resin-coated metal beams or members with synthetic-resin joints having hollow sleeves into which ends of the beams are inserted to form a square or rectangular framework. Each joint comprise a pair of first and second sleeves, formed to extend at predetermined angles with each other, each of a cross-section largely shaped like the alphabet "B" to fittingly but removably receive therein a tubular beam of a similarly B-shaped cross-section. The tubular beams are each provided with screw holes in the middle of their curved circumferences to receive screws through aligned screw holes formed in the associated hollow sleeves of the joint.

  • Patent number: 5251420
Abstract: Construction utilizing composite pultrusion technology incorporates an internal web structure in the elongated members themselves, increasing the strength-to-weight ratio, while providing support for joint notches due to the strategic positioning of the webs. The joints themselves are modified to accommodate the exiting of one or two members from the joint at an oblique angle to provide more construction flexibility to make diagonal braces, for example. The improved techniques are incorporated into a power transmission tower which takes advantage of the electrical qualities inherent in composites to produce a mechanically and electrically strong tower.

Abstract: A modular sign consists of an H-shaped metal frame. The pointed legs can be driven into the earth by stepping on the cross rail. Plastic side tubes are slid over the upper arms of the H. The tubes have slots cut through the side partway down from the top; the edges of a sign board are inserted into them. The top and bottom edges of the sign board are inserted into slots cut into the sides of a top and bottom tube, respectively. The ends of the top and bottom tubes are inserted into holes bored through the side tubes, which are of larger diameter than the top and bottom tubes. Thus the sign board's edges are completely covered by the tubes. For extra strength the top tube may be fastened to the side tubes at either end. For indoor use, the lower frame legs are slid into feet in the shape of an inverted T for stability.
