  • Patent number: 4207014
Abstract: A jointing device including arms which connect two elements together. The arms are elongated and of generally rectangular cross-section. One of the elements includes flanges with lips extending along the edges of the flanges and the other of the elements forms a clip. The lips form a mouth. Each arm is grooved near one end, the grooves extending transversely across one of the elongated faces of the respective arm. Said one end of each arm is bounded by a rolling surface which intersects said one surface of each arm and merges with the opposed surface. With the rolling surfaces in engagement, the arms diverge from said one end and, in this condition, can be inserted into, and removed from, said mouth. When the outer ends of the arms are moved together from this diverging position, the arms are brought into back-to-back relationship with the opposed surfaces juxtaposed. The lips are received in the grooves while the arms are held in back-to-back relationship in the mouth.

  • Patent number: 4146343
Abstract: A unitary element is T-shaped with the crossbar of the T being a head and the upright of the T being a cylindrical collar. A bore passes through the collar and head and may receive a screw therein. A further portion protrudes from an end of the collar remote from the head and has a longitudinally extending planar face which intersects a transversely extending end face of the collar. The further portion longitudinal face and the collar end face engage a longitudinal face and a transverse face of a member, respectively, to fix the element on the member so that it will not rotate relative thereto. A corner member is provided for bracing two structural members which are linked together.

  • Patent number: 4124317
Abstract: The invention relates to means for coupling a first rigid element to a second rigid element, the coupling means including a wheel having a central circular opening therein with a screw thread on the inner surface of the central opening and a rod member including a longitudinal rod having a screw thread on the outer surface thereof. The wheel screw thread and the rod screw thread are mating threads. The wheel is received in a transverse passage extending through the width of the first rigid element in a plane at right angles to the length of the first element and the rod is received in a longitudinal passage in the first element, the passage extending from one edge of the first element into the element and being in communication with the transverse passage.

  • Patent number: 4116573
Abstract: The end of a first member is fastened to the side of a second member via a releaseable rod. One end of the rod is threaded into a socket fixed in the side of the second member; the other end of the rod extends into a bore in the end of the first member. An internally threaded second socket is positioned in a transverse bore in the first member and said other end of the rod extends through the second socket. A conically ended setscrew is threaded into the second socket and engages a deep conical recess in the side of the rod. Upon tightening the setscrew, the end of the first member is pulled tightly against the side of the second member via the wedging action of the setscrew in the recess.

  • Patent number: 4097162
Abstract: Each construction member comprises a pair of mutually opposing, normally strip-like bodies of wood or other fastener impalable material, which are abutted face-to-face with one another on a common axis and adapted to define an axially extending slot at the interface therebetween. It also comprises an elongated strip of metal-like reinforcing material which is interposed in the slot and equipped with integral tooth-like fasteners on the longitudinally extending edges thereof which are oppositely disposed to one another from edge-to-edge of the strip and impaled in the bodies of fastener impalable material adjacent opposite sides of the slot. To this extent, pairs of the members may be modular.

  • Patent number: 4092076
Abstract: An assembly system for mounting lateral beams on a central beam to form a framework in which the central beam is provided with laterally extending, preferably cylindrical pegs, which are formed with inclined bearing surfaces, e.g. conical surfaces, adjacent their free ends. The lateral beams have bores formed therein into which the pegs fit, and transversely extending screws having conical ends are screwed against the inclined bearing surfaces to press the lateral beams against the central beam.

  • Patent number: 4056196
Abstract: A supporting framework for shelves including crosspieces which are joined to uprights by locking means which include a locking bolt aligned in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the crosspiece, which bolt includes a head projecting beyond the end of the crosspiece with a contact surface which engages frictionally with a gripping surface on the interior surface of the wall of the upright. The bolt is mounted in a bearing mechanism located within the crosspiece wall so that the bolt can pivot between an unlocked and a locked position, the bolt carrying a collar to which an operating element projecting out through a window in the crosspiece wall is joined. The supporting framework is so designed that when the bolt is in the position the contact surface on the bolt head abuts the gripping surface on the interior surface of the wall of the upright.

  • Patent number: 4025209
Abstract: The device described enables hollow, basically rectangular sections to be joined together either orthogonally or end-to-end and also to be joined to floors, ceilings, beams and the like. The device is a piece of extrusion basically U-shaped in cross-section which fits neatly into extrusions and by means of flanges with threaded grooves can either be connected directly to the extrusion or by drawing a bracing web into the grooves. The connecting piece is then joined to the other component or floor etc either by means of tightening the bracing web screw or by means of a flat metal plate which fits neatly into a groove in the main web of the connecting piece being secured there by screws and then screwing this plate, which projects out of the connecting piece, to the floor, ceiling etc. Provision is also made for a sealing agent which accommodates dimensional differences due to tolerances or dilation and also prevents transmission of sound.

  • Patent number: 4017199
Abstract: A frame comprising at least two sectional elements which are detachably interconnected and pressed against each other, the end-face and the outer surface of one of the sectional elements are differently shaped in such a manner that when the sectional elements are clamped together by a bolt, the end-face first bears against one of the sectional elements along lines of contact and rotation of the elements relative to each other is prevented, and upon further clamping, the vanes or rails bear against the end-face by becoming elastically deformed.

  • Patent number: 4005561
Abstract: At both top and bottom of end portions of beams, welded steel plate connector assemblies having side straps are bolted to the beams, a bridge plate welded to the side straps and one or more threaded studs welded to the bridge plate and extending through and nuts tightened behind a facet plate of a separate polygonal hub assembly. The central hub assembly includes a polygonal tube and stiffening plates and gussets in the tube. A clearance between the connector assemblies and the central hub effects a joint where the beam remains in abutment with its facet of the hub for tension forces as well as compression forces. The beams have daps and/or kerfs, and also clearance grooves for the studs to permit the connectors to be slid from retracted positions to positions in which the studs extend through the bolt holes in the hub.

  • Patent number: 3962774
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of interlocking the rails of a railing, fence or the like with the ends of the hollow posts thereof. Also disclosed is the joint construction used with said method. The method and the joint construction make possible easy interlocking without the use of rivets, bolts and nuts, or welding and can be effectively applied to the assembling of tubular railings made from aluminum by extrusion molding. When the joint is to be provided between a post and a rail base which passes over or under one end of the post, a stud having a head is pushed through a hole provided in the rail base into the end of the hollow post and a self-tapping screw is threaded into a gap between the stud and the inner wall of the post to fix them. The shape of the stud head is made such that it dos not obstruct the threading of the self-tapping screw.
