  • Patent number: 4846508
Abstract: A tubular connector system is disclosed for joining two pipe ends without the necessity of rotating the pipe ends. One pipe end is provided with an external thread and a second pipe end includes multiple thread lead entries. The tubular connector includes an internal thread at one end and internal multiple thread lead entries at the other end. The tubular connector is first threaded onto the first pipe. Next, the second pipe is stabbed into the second end of the tubular connector and the tubular connector is then rotated less than a single turn with respect to the second pipe to fully mate the tubular connector and the second pipe. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the tubular connector is provided with resilient seals and a slot and tab arrangement to restrict rotation after make-up.

  • Patent number: 4577990
Abstract: A coupling mechanism is disclosed for coaxially connecting a pair of connectable components, such as a pair of transducer assemblies each having a stator. A coupling ring is carried by one stator and engageable with the other for drawing the stators together axially in response to relative rotation of the coupling ring. First friction mechanism between the stators prevent relative rotation between the stators after the stators are aligned angularly to align the electrical zeros thereof. Second friction mechanism of lesser coefficient of friction between the coupling ring and the one stator permit relative rotation therebetween whereby the stators can be finally coupled by further rotation of the coupling member while the first friction means maintains the stators in zero electrical alignment. Subsequently, locking washers are fastened between the coupling ring and stators to permanently lock the stators in relative aligned position.

  • Patent number: 4577053
Abstract: A ground rod, coupling therefor and method of making that coupling are disclosed providing both strength and improved conductivity. Ground rods are usually copper coated or plated steel rods formed in sections which are driven or, perhaps more correctly, pounded into the ground to form grounding or earthing connections for dissipation of electrical current into the earth. The coupling includes co-extensive inner and outer sleeves of copper and a corrosion resistant metal such as stainless steel, respectively, which are mechanically interlocked along their axial lengths. The inner copper sleeve is formed with threads or oppositely directed cones after the two sleeves are interlocked and in so doing the interlock between the sleeves is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4213504
Abstract: A portable, hand-held apparatus or implement employing various interchangeable soil working assemblies, wherein the latter rotate about an axis oriented substantially normal to the soil surface, i.e., the assembly rotates in a horizontal plane parallel to the soil surface. The soil working assemblies selectively include soil engaging tine, auger, drill, etc., members which depend via integral support bases from a central guide rod. The guide rod extends along the axis of rotation of the soil working assembly, wherein the tip thereof engages the soil prior to contact therewith by the rest of the assembly. The apparatus contemplates various power source configurations, mutually interchangeable with the various soil working assemblies, dependent upon the operation to be performed, the existing soil conditions, etc. Thus the apparatus may include manual, electrical, gas, etc., power sources and may employ cultivating, mulching, weeding, boring, etc., assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4099745
Abstract: A tool joint for drill pipe which is particularly well adapted for large diameter drill pipe, comprises a pin section and a box section. Each section of the tool joint is adapted at a first end to be attached to the drill pipe by welding, or threads, as is conventionally done. The principal part of the tool joint is of larger diameter than the pipe and includes a plurality of longitudinal, circumferentially-spaced tongues and grooves in the form of a jaw clutch. The tongues in the pin section match the grooves in the box section and vice versa. Means are provided to polarize the tongues and grooves so that they fit together in only one angular position. A tubular extension on the second end of the pin section is adapted to fit into a bored opening or socket in the second end of the box section. O rings or other means, are provided to seal the tubular extension into the bored opening.

  • Patent number: 4040756
Abstract: A thread structure for use in coupling percussion drilling extension rods minimizes the torque necessary to disconnect such extension rods. This is accomplished by beveling the crest portions of the cooperating thread structures. The direction of the bevel is such that the greatest intrusion of the crest portions into the complementary portions of the cooperating thread structure occurs immediately adjacent the abutting flanks thereof. The abutting flanks then wear in such a way that wedging is substantially avoided. Additionally, the root portions are defined by a continuously curved surface that smoothly extends into a flat surface defining the thread flanks so that fatigue stresses are minimized.
