  • Patent number: 6447197
Abstract: In an automobile steering device, a mounting structure is provided for attaching a locking collar having a cancel cam to the hub of a cable reel rotor. The cancel cam is used to automatically deactivate a turn signal switch while it is blinking. The cable reel provides a housing for cable. The cable reel includes a casing attached to a rotor having an inner hub. In an annular hollow area between the casing and the rotor, a flat cable is spirally housed, and the flat cable is wound or rewound in the hollow area in accordance with reciprocal rotation of the rotor which corresponds to steering wheel movement. During the assembly process (i.e. attachment of locking collar to the rotor), it is important that the cancel cam is aligned, or clocked, to a specific radial position with respect to the rotor. There is provided a mounting structure which positively prevents erroneous connections between the locking collar and rotor.

Abstract: An impact recovery delineation quick connect/disconnect adapter system having studs and an alignment pin that enables an operator to connect and/or disconnect a delineation panel, support post and load cell from the supporting base (fixed or portable) without the use of any tools. The load cell provides for radially aligned slots in a shoulder portion to allow the load cell to engage and lock with studs that are connected to the supporting base when the load cell is rotated about its vertical axis. The studs are particularly geometrically configured and have shoulders that are larger than the stud barrel and have heads that are larger than the shoulders which results in a mechanical locking between the slots and the studs upon rotation of the cell with respect to the stationary studs. A quick release detent pin passes through aligned passages in the lower load cell element and supporting base to prevent rotation of the load cell with respect to the horizontal axis of the base after connection is achieved.

Abstract: A pneumatic impact power tool has a tool body with a bit-receiving axial bore in its end surface. A cap is threaded on the end of the tool body and has an end wall spaced from the end surface to define a cavity and a lobed opening in the cavity matably receiving a like-lobed bit shank, the cavity being dimensioned to accommodate the lobes. Spring-biased balls project into the cavity from radial bores in the end cap to engage the shank lobes and bias them to a rotational position non-aligned with the opening lobes to inhibit removal. The cavity is dimensioned to afford a slight axial clearance to accommodate axial movement of the lobes. A cover on the end cap is recessed to receive the bias springs, retaining both the springs and the cover in place.
