Abstract: The present invention provides a joining structure capable of greatly improving the proof stress and the fatigue property by alleviating the stress concentration and residual stress caused by welding heat at one or both ends of a tabular member. In the present invention, one or both ends 4 of a tabular member 3 such as a reinforcing rib, fixed to the surface of a structural member 1 in the direction of the principal stress of the structural member 1 so as to protrude in the shape of T, is/are bent in a direction deviating from the direction of the principal stress and, by this, the rigidity at the end(s) 4 of the tabular member 3 decreases and the stress concentration is alleviated. It is preferable to bend one or both ends of a tabular member 3 in the shape of an gradual curve and to the extent that each bent end is formed at a right angle to the direction of the principal stress. Abstract: The present invention is an interface between a piece of baggage and a preconcentrator. The baggage-preconcentrator interface is able be secured to the opening in the baggage, such as an opening created by a zipper. The baggage-preconcentrator interface provides a convenient entry point from which to extract air from the interior of baggage. The shape of such interface corresponds to that of the preconcentrator, which collects constituents of air. The preconcentrator is inserted into the baggage-preconcentrator interface and an air sample is extracted from the interior of the baggage and through both the interface and the preconcentrator. As the air is extracted, the constituents of air collect in the preconcentrator. After collecting the constituents, the preconcentrator is inserted into a testing unit capable of detecting trace amounts of explosives, such as an ion trap mobility spectrometer. • Patent number: 4681476
Abstract: Unique flex-lock dovetail mounting apparatus (300) is described that may be advantageously utilized for mounting radio transceivers (100) and accessories (200) in harsh environments. The housing of the radio transceiver (100) includes on one side thereof at least two channels (101 and 105) producing a dovetail. The mounting apparatus (300) includes a top plate (304); a slide plate (308) attached to the top plate (304), having on at least one end a cut-out portion (310) producing a gap (320, 321 and 322) between the cut-out portion (310) and the top plate (304), and having at least two rails (301 and 305) producing a dovetail and each adapted to insert into a corresponding one of the channels (101 and 105); and locking apparatus including a lever (306) or a thumb screw (706) coupled to the top plate (304) and the cut-out portion (310) of the slide plate (308) for flexing the cut-out portion (310) toward the top plate (304) thereby locking the rails (301 and 305) in position in the channels (101 and 105).

  • Patent number: 4111573
Abstract: An improved fully mechanized sawmill is provided which is composed of structurally independent modules which are removably mounted on a platform composed of a plurality of side-by-side longerons supported horizontally on files of spaced-apart vertical piers and columns. The longerons provide horizontal stress support for the platform along the files of piers and columns perpendicularly to the cutting axis of the sawmill, and the modules mounted thereon provide horizontal stress support for the platform along the ranks of the piers and columns parallel to the cutting axis. In addition, improved mechanisms and techniques are provided for handling and selecting the sawlogs to be cut, for selecting and distributing the pieces cut therefrom according to shape and utility, and for stacking and handling the distributed pieces at preselected locations according to shape and utility.

  • Patent number: 4105345
Abstract: A drum support apparatus includes a drum with webs adapted to be fitted within grooves located on the interior of the drum. The webs are supported on a shaft that is cantilevered from a machine frame and have adjustable lugs attached thereto that fit within the grooves on the interior of the drum in order to maintain the outside surface of the drum concentric with the shaft and thereby reduce the possibility of drum run-out.
