  • Patent number: 11767643
Abstract: A concrete finishing and forming machine adapted for rail trackbed deck construction accommodates various plinths and channels needed for light rail construction. The adjustably configurable machine comprises a rigid frame disposed above a deck by vertically upright, adjustable jack stands supported at their bottoms by wheeled, powered bogies adapted to traverse upon suitable rails on opposite sides of the deck. The jack-stands may be connected to supporting swing arms that extend from pivot sleeves enabling the jack stands to angularly swing out from the frame. A slidable carriage that is longitudinally displaceable within the frame supports at least one downwardly extending, vertically adjustable paving head having a tool that, when immersed within wet concrete and then horizontally displaced, strikes off elongated, smoothed channels resembling pathways upon the concrete.

Abstract: The dropped curb finisher is for use with a slip form paving machines for forming continuous curbs and gutters. The dropped curb finisher has a vertical mounting plate, a finishing plate, an end plate and a vibrator for imparting vibration to the end plate and the finishing plate. The finishing plate extends rearwardly from the bottom edge of the mounting plate and the end plate inclines upwardly from the end of the finishing plate remote from the mounting plate. In another embodiment the present invention comprises a method of forming a dropped curb with a slip form paving machine for forming continuous curbs and gutters.

  • Patent number: 7108449
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for power finishing freshly placed concrete in which the acoustic impedance of the treating equipment is made substantially equal to the acoustic impedance of the concrete slab being treated. Preferably, a powered, twin rotor riding trowel is provided with a pair of circular finishing pans that are attached to the conventional rotor blades used later in the finishing process. The pans are characterized by an acoustic impedance approximating the acoustic impedance of green concrete, thereby optimizing the energy transferred to the concrete. Preferred pans comprise ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plastic. During troweling, the pans are frictionally revolved over the green concrete for finishing the surface without prematurely sealing the uppermost slab surface. Through the disclosed troweling method, a highly stable concrete surface results, and delamination is minimized. Alternative troweling uses pans coated with layered impedance matching material.

  • Patent number: 6962490
Abstract: A concrete extruder attachment for a vehicle includes a hopper adapted to hold flowable concrete. The hopper has an upper concrete inlet and a lower concrete outlet. A slip form is connected to the lower concrete outlet. An internal vibrator causes concrete to flow from the hopper through the lower concrete outlet to the form. A mounting is provided which is adapted to mount to a vehicle. A hopper support is secured to the hopper. The hopper support is pivotally mounted to the mounting for pivotal movement between a first position with the hopper extending toward a first side of the vehicle and a second position with the hopper extending toward a second side of the vehicle. The support is selectively locked in one of the first position or the second position. The ability to pivot the hopper enables the concrete extruder to access corners.

  • Patent number: 6582152
Abstract: The invention teaches a slip form paving machine which can be used for both zero clearance variable width and variable width conventional paving using the same paving pan. The main frame of the machine is designed to hydraulically extend and retract from varying desired widths. The paving assembly, attached to the main tractor assembly frame, is adjustable as wide as the width of the main frame of the machine or further past the exterior limits for additional clearance, if required. The paving pan, which is part of the pan assembly, can also be extended to conform to these various widths. In a “zero clearance” paving mode, the same pan is located behind the main tractor frame, whereas in conventional paving, the pan is located under the center of the main frame inside of the tracks. In addition, the paving pan can be adjusted to pave varying surface angles, if required.
