    Abstract: A gravity induced soil remediation system for filtering waste material from a waste stream includes an upstream trench member defining an interior area. A first distribution conduit is situated in the interior area and has an inlet in communication with the waste stream and an outlet extending downstream from the upstream trench member. The first distribution conduit has a negative elevation angle between the inlet and the outlet such that the waste stream flows downwardly therebetween by the natural force of gravity. The first distribution conduit is perforated to allow a first portion of the waste stream therein to pass therethrough. The upstream trench member includes sand and carbon filter media situated in the interior area of the upstream trench member proximate the first distribution conduit to extract waste material from the first portion of the waste stream. The conduit is adapted and provided for extending through an aperture in the geomembrane for withdrawing sub-surface gas from within the interior volume of the plenum and through the geomembrane. A gasket having an opening formed therein is slipped over the conduit and above the geomembrane so that the geomembrane is sandwiched between the gasket and the upper portion of the plenum. A threaded nut is fitted to the conduit and above the gasket for securing the gasket against the geomembrane, thereby sealing the geomembrane to the upper portion of the plenum.

    Abstract: The primary function of the collapsible enclosure is to capture, isolate, and allow for the permanent removal of otherwise easily dispersed contaminates in aquatic sediments and detritus of water bodies. Once deployed, the collapsible enclosure creates an isolated volume of water above these media. Contaminated sediments and detritus covered by the enclosure can then be efficiently removed either by their dissociation from sediment and detritus and into a soluble form within the enclosed water volume or by suspension of contaminated sediments and detritus within the enclosure. The dissolved or suspended contaminants within the enclosure could then be removed by an external pump, for treatment or disposal of recovered water and solids. This invention can also control invasive, noxious or nuisance densities of aquatic plants and animals (such as zebra mussels) by placing enclosures over the area of concern and creating appropriate physical or chemical conditions within the enclosure.

    Abstract: An off gas extraction system cleans common sources of off gas, such as storage tanks and polluted soils. Off gas is extracted, followed by compression and condensation. Compression and condensation produce an off gas that can be reintroduced as a treated gas into the off gas source. Alternatively, a regenerative absorber cleans the treated gas by adsorbing residual chemical vapor and concentrates the removed chemical vapors and reprocesses them. If the treated gas is not reintroduced into the off gas source, conventional scrubbers may used on the back end of the system to produce a final exhaust as prescribed by environmental regulation. Methods of accomplishing the same are similarly provided, including novel methods for degassing storage tanks and treating polluted soils to meet current environmental regulations, as well as green technology and sustainability initiatives.

A fourth step involves controlling the positioning of the remote end of the vacuum hose along the beach with a secondary vessel that is small in relation to the primary vessel. Heat may be applied to the soil by metallic strip heaters that have large cross sectional areas as compared to conventional heater elements. The strip heaters may be made of stainless steel. Large cross sectional areas of the strip heaters allow for large areas of thermal contact between the strip heaters and the soil being treated. Casings may not be needed between the strip heaters and the soil. The operating temperature of the strip heaters is self-regulating. As the temperature of a strip heater increases, the electrical resistance of the strip heater also increases. The increase in resistance causes a decrease in the power dissipation of the strip heater. The decrease in power dissipation as temperature increases allows a steady state heater strip temperature to be attained during use.
