Publication number: 20090052989Abstract: Sheath (20, 21) with specially designed artificial rugosity (18, 19), to be put on structures and objects (10) submerged in a flow (12) and leaning on a scourable bottom, such as piers and abutments of bridges, pipelines, and others. The rugosity diminishes the intensity of the secondary flow that occurs in the border of attack of the structure and also reduces the turbulent wake; as a result, there is a decrease in the local scour that can put the mentioned structures at risk. The sheath also reduces the drag force due to the relative movement of the structure (10) in relation to the liquid medium, so it can be applied to moving objects in a liquid medium at rest. The sheath may have an efficient streamlined profile that produces an additional decrease of the scour and the drag force; it may also include a mechanism to turn the sheath automatically, if the flow has variable direction.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2005Publication date: February 26, 2009Inventor: Robie Bonilla Gris

Publication number: 20080019775Abstract: This patent is based on the need of a new way of using up tires that are not in use. Using the Tire Tread Ring in a cribbing manor we find that we create a design structure that is very versatile and flexible and at the same time not losing its strength and holding the environment in place where it is used. The Tire Tread Ring Cribbing system is made up of tire parts. What we are using is the Tire Tread Ring and the Tire Sidewalls after they are removed from the Tread Ring. This will create a cribbing system that is interconnected by the use of fasteners to connect the sidewalls and tire tread rings together. This makes a interlocking detainment space which prevents washout for the retaining earth materials that tend to flow. Each interconnected crib of the system divides and hold a quantity of the material safely with in it, the cribbing space. In this way normally unstable material such as loose rocky earth, sand, and gravels can be retained in a relatively steep configuration such as in a retaining wall.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2006Publication date: January 24, 2008Inventors: Rodney D. Patent number: 7226245Abstract: A load-carrying modular structure assembled from 3-D structural modules constituting parallelepipeds with rectangular faces, the 3-D modules adjoining each other along said faces. The modules comprise reinforcing diagonal beams (RDBs) disposed along diagonals that connect vertices of the parallelepipeds. The RDBs form a 3-D multi-tetrahedron lattice whereby said modular structure behaves under load as a multi-tetrahedron structure. A basic 3-D module for assembling the modular structure has six RDBs along facial diagonals forming a tetrahedron. The 3-D module may have RDBs also along the other six diagonals and along diagonals connecting centers of the box's faces. The 3-D modules may have cut-outs and passages for water currents. They may have internal hollow volumes and controlled buoyancy, and may be assembled from shell elements.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2002Date of Patent: June 5, 2007Assignees: Tamnor Management & Consulting Ltd.Inventors: Eliyahu Kent, Yoram Alkon

Patent number: 7189026Abstract: A portable breakwater system for use in a body of water includes first and second support members adapted to be positioned on the floor of the body of water and a curtain attached between the first and second support members. The first and second support members allow the curtain to freely rise in response to a wave in the body of water so as to attenuate the wave. Each support member includes a base plate and a frame assembly extending upwardly from the base plate. The base plates can be anchored to the water floor with one or more weights. The frame assemblies include pivoting or telescoping sections that permit the curtain to rise in response to a wave. Alternatively, the curtain can be attached to pre-existing underwater structure, such as the support members of a dock located in the body of water. In this case, the curtain is attached to the support members via attachment sleeves that are slidingly mounted on the support members.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2005Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Cabins to Castles, Inc.Inventors: Karen King, Lisa M. Patent number: 7097385Abstract: A three-dimensional multi-pod windblown particle control device is used to control the deposition, accumulation and retention of windblown particles. The multi-pod device is formed by connecting beams to create legs which intersect one another at a crossing area. The ends of some of the legs contact the earth surface to support the device while the ends of the other legs extend in three dimensions to interact with the wind. The device may be formed by substantially identical X-shaped frame structures which intersect and connect with one another. The optimal spacing for using the devices in an array is within a range of approximately 0.5–1.5 of a transverse dimension across the surface area occupied by each particle control device.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2004Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Inventor: Ronald D.
