  • Patent number: 10077538
Abstract: An axial reinforcement system is disclosed that provides a shell (i.e., a form or jacket) that protects a weight-bearing member (e.g., a cement column) from a corrosive environment and which also substantially increases the structural capacity of the weight-bearing member. The shell is integrated with “positioners” and reinforcing elements, the combination of which offers several advantages over conventional shells. The positioner is attached directly to the shell and the positioner is, in turn, secured to a reinforcing element, which can be a reinforced steel, such as rebar, or a carbon fiber reinforced polymer material. The axial reinforcement system has been found to substantially increase the structural rigidity of the weight-bearing member, while at the same time protecting the weight-bearing member from corrosion and is also simple to install.

  • Patent number: 8511020
Abstract: The disclosure describes, in part, apparatuses and methods for installing structures (e.g., foundations, footings, anchors, abutments, etc.) at work sites, such as difficult-access work sites. In some instances, a rotating drill assembly is assembled over a target location in order to excavate a radial array of batter-angled shafts associated with the target location in preparation for the installation of a radial array of micropiles. An operator utilizes the rotating drill in combination with a foundation pile schedule/decision matrix to design and install the radial array of batter-angled micropiles. This disclosure also describes techniques for designing, fabricating and installing structural caps to be coupled to the installed radial array batter angled micropiles. These structural caps are lightweight and, thus, more portable to difficult-access sites where they are coupled to the micropiles forming a foundation for structure to be installed at the difficult-access site.

  • Patent number: 7104732
Abstract: A pile is installed in a drilled hole in the ground by inserting a tube extending to the bottom and providing on the bottom end of the tube a bottom shoe for compressing material at the bottom of the hole. A drive tool attached to the upper end of the tube applies downward compression and reciprocating rotation forces to the tube. A hammer by-passes the drive tool to apply impact forces to an upper surface of the shoe at the bottom of the tube acting to drive the shoe in downward movement so that the shoe slides downwardly relative to the tube. A radial surface of the shoe causes compressive forces on the material at the bottom of the hole and blades on the radial surface when reciprocated back and forth by the tube cause break up of the compressed material to allow repeated compression and significantly increased supported loads on a pile which is applied with the tube removed and is supported on the shoe.

Abstract: A form for molding a footing at an end of another form for molding a pillar. The footing form includes a rigid hollow base having a bottom, an open top and a side wall extending upwardly from the bottom to the open top, and wherein the bottom is larger than the open top. A sleeve extends upwardly from the open top of the base for being received within an end of a pillar form. The footing form also includes protrusions extending laterally outwardly from an outer surface of the sleeve for frictionally engaging an inner surface of the pillar form, yet preventing the inner surface of the pillar form from engaging the outer surface of the sleeve. Accordingly, the overall contact area between the footings is reduced for easier application of the pillar form onto the sleeve of the footing form.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a capping beam across two or more cast-in-situ piles (11), wherein a precast or preformed guide wall structure (1) having holes (5) for receiving and guiding a piling auger is placed into an excavation, forming a number of cast-in-situ piles (11) by applying a piling auger to the ground through the holes (5) in the guide wall structure (1), removing the guide wall structure (1) and filling the excavation with concrete so as to form a capping beam. This results in much improved construction times, since it is not necessary to remove excess hardened concrete before forming the capping beam, and also results in less waste, since the guide wall structure can be reused.

Abstract: A building foundation form apparatus and method uses transverse form supports (15) supported directly on the ground and carrying longitudinal form supports (21, 22) adjustably located on opposite sides of, and substantially parallel to, a foundation axis (17). A flexible sheet form element (25) has edge portions (57, 58) connected to the longitudinal form supports (21, 22) and a contact portion (60) located between the edge portions and supported on the ground and deformed into a general U-shape with overhanging bulges (39) to receive the flowable and settable foundation mixture. The longitudinal form supports (21, 22) are adjustable vertically to accommodate ground undulations to ensure correct footing width. The contact portion (60) has mesh opening to pass the foundation mixture therethrough to enhance adhesion to the ground.

  • Patent number: 6179526
Abstract: A method of forming a pile isolation void including forming a foundation pile having an enlarged cross-section within a specific localized section and driving the foundation pile a desired distance into the earth so as to form a pile isolation void directly above the enlarged cross-section. The enlarged cross-section can be located at the bottom of the foundation pile or along the length of the foundation pile. The pile isolation void is an annular void extending around the foundation pile above the enlarged cross-section. This pile isolation void can be filled with a material, such as liquid, gel, or a solid material different than the material of the pile or of the earth. The enlarged cross-section can be a collar placed upon the foundation pile, or integrally formed with the foundation pile.

Abstract: A pile forming system and method for forming a pile. The pile forming system comprises a top pile forming member, a bottom pile forming member, and an end plate assembled together to provide a complete pile form which can then be filled with concrete to form the pile. Additionally, the pile forming system incorporates a tip forming member which can be secured to one end of the pile form to form a sharp tip at one end of the pile facilitating driving the pile into a subsurface. Additional pairs of top and bottom pile forming members may be joined end to end to form longer piles. After the desired pile form is assembled, concrete is poured or pumped into the pile form through openings on the top surface of the pile form. Preferably, reinforcement bars or rebars which are coated with a non-permeable coating to prevent rust are placed in the pile form before the pouring of the concrete.
