Abstract: A fluid diversion conduit is provided for temporarily diverting a stream during pipeline construction activities. The conduit includes an offset section that is shiftable to adjust access to the streambed, for example to allow pipeline installation across the streambed. When construction activities are obstructed by the initial position of the offset segment, the offset segment may be shifted, for example by rotation to elevate the offset segment from the streambed. Further construction activities may proceed beneath the elevated section, and pipelayers can pass under it while carrying the pipe string into position. Flow through the conduit may be maintained by siphon hydraulics or by pumps when the offset segment is elevated.

Abstract: A foundation wall vapor barrier system comprising a wall vapor barrier extending vertically along an interior portion of a foundation wall to resist moisture transfer through the foundation wall. The wall vapor barrier includes a non-woven fibrous core layer, a moisture impervious solid top layer bonded to and completely covering a first side of the core layer, a moisture impervious solid bottom layer bonded to a second side of the core layer opposite the first side, and, an adhesion strip defined by an absence of the bottom layer along a portion of the second side exposing the core layer for receiving adhesive to secure the wall vapor barrier to the foundation wall. A fire retardant low-VOC compliant non-solvent adhesive is disposed in the adhesion strip mounting the core layer to the foundation wall without mechanical fasteners.

  • Patent number: 7500806
Abstract: A method and apparatus for constructing a filter zone of an earthfill dam, in which the filter zone includes adjacent coarse and fine filter layers. The coarse and fine filter materials are discharged simultaneously from an earthmoving vehicle having an ejector body. The ejector body includes a longitudinal divider wall that maintains segregation of the materials during transport, and the materials are discharged through separate chute assemblies so as to place the materials in elongate, side-by-side berms. The ejector vehicle is followed by a dozer or other piece of equipment that grades both berms simultaneously. Each pass of the ejector vehicle and dozer thus forms a stratum of the filter zone. The passes are repeated to form a plurality of strata in overlying relationship such that the coarse particulate material forms the coarse filter portion of the filter zone and the fine material forms the fine filter portion of the zone.

Abstract: A micro-climate crawl space system having a means for keeping water from entering the crawl space, a means of expelling water that enters the crawl space, a means for keeping water vapor from entering the crawl space, a means of expelling water vapor from the crawl space, and a means for minimizing the deleterious impact of water that is present in the crawl space. The means of expelling water is a durable thermal insulating sealing apparatus, where the apparatus isolates the crawl space; and a supply of conditioned air that is typically drawn from an interior of the building, where the conditioned air is supplied at a rate sufficient to effect a slight positive pressure on the crawl space.

Abstract: A brine sealant solution and both a one-step and two-step process for producing an earthen hardpan in a pond or slush pit is described. The process disperses clay in an aqueous solution using monovalent and divalent cations and bentonite clay. The dispersed clay is then used to fill the seepage capillaries. A second aqueous solution of monovalent and divalent cations and a wetting agent is applied and aggregates the clay and creates a hardpan.

Abstract: The specification and drawing figures describe and show an interlockable drainage system insertable into a ditch that includes two or more liner sections. Each liner section includes a plurality of corrugations that are asymmetrical. The interlockable drainage system also includes a flared channel extending from opposing edges of the liner sections. A shoulder is formed in the opposing ends of the liner sections. A plurality of bosses is formed on the shoulder. The plurality of bosses on one shoulder is compressibly connectable to the plurality of bosses on an opposing shoulder, thus connecting one liner section to another. A connector is provided for added interconnectability of the plurality of bosses. This abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure, but this abstract is not to be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of any claim.

Abstract: A method is described for inhibiting migration of fluids into and/or out of a treatment area undergoing an in situ conversion process. Barriers in the formation proximate a treatment area may be used to inhibit migration of fluids. Inhibition of migration of fluids may occur before, during, and/or after an in situ treatment process. For example, migration of fluids may be inhibited while heat is provided from heaters to at least a portion of the treatment area. Barriers may include naturally occurring portions (e.g., overburden, and/or underburden) and/or installed portions.

  • Patent number: 6957932
Abstract: A benthic screen for controlling aquatic plant growth comprising a sheet of flexible material, a plurality of spaced-apart, elongated retaining members that are transversely positioned across the width of the sheet and attachment means for securing each retaining member to the sheet. The sheet of flexible material is typically a polymeric material having low light transmittance such as a woven geotextile polypropylene. The retaining members are preferably a plurality of parallel positioned metal rods. The attachment means is preferably a plurality of PVC pipes wherein each pipe has a slit that passes through the pipe and extends the length thereof. A portion of the sheet is inserted into a slit and looped around a retaining rod that is encased in the pipe. The structure of the screen renders it self anchoring and provides channels for removing plant decomposition gases that would otherwise accumulate under the screen.
