  • Patent number: 6126364
Abstract: A reamer for chip removing machining includes a holder having a line of pockets, each pocket including a support surface facing in a direction of feed of the holder. Cutting inserts are mounted in respective ones of the pockets and project out of the pocket at progressively greater distances. Clamping assemblies clamp respective inserts in their respective pockets. Each clamping assembly includes a shank projecting into a hole formed in the pocket, a clamping head fixed to the shank and situated in the pocket, and a spring yieldably biasing the shank and the clamping head to a position wherein the clamping head forces a rear surface of the insert against the support surface. By depressing a shank against its spring bias, a respective insert can be replaced.

  • Patent number: 6033157
Abstract: An adjustment mechanism for adjusting an insert pocket wall's abutment surface in order to alter the location of an insert mounted in the pocket. The adjustment mechanism includes an adjustment screw and adjustment ball located in an adjustment bore. The adjustment ball is located in the vicinity of the pocket wall and on tightening the adjustment screw the adjustment ball is forced against the pocket wall. The force applied by the adjustment ball deforms the pocket wall in the region of contact between the adjustment ball and the pocket wall resulting in the required adjustment of the abutment surface.

Abstract: A rotatable machine tool such as a precision boring tool has a head (2) that is detachably mounted on a shank type driving element (3). The head carries a removable cutting tip (9) and includes a bearing point (8) that wedgingly seats within a transverse slideway (7) in driving element (3). A slide (11), which is mounted in through bore (20) in head (2), has a male member (10) attached thereto which passes through a slot (24) extending between the bore (20) and an end face (19) of the head (2). Male member (10) is received within a bore (12) in driving element (3). A clamping screw (13) in drive element (3) interacts with male member (10) to cam it inwardly thereby clamping head (2) in position on drive element (3). The head (2) is transversely adjustable within slideway (7) by loosening screw (13) and adjusting opposed screws (32, 33) in head (2) which act on male member (10).

  • Patent number: 5658101
Abstract: An improved milling head. A milling head is provided with a backing plate with a toothed system on the from side, whose teeth run in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the carrier body. Because the blade plate has a toothed system, which can be engaged with the toothed system on the front of the support plate, the blade plate no longer needs to be shifted radially outward to be resharpened. Rather the blade plate must only be radially displaced to the outside by a tooth of a micro-toothed system. This simplifies the regrinding on a constant flight circle diameter, because only the hard metal of the blade plate needs to be ground, which can be accomplished with a normal hard metal grinding wheel. The support plate only needs to be shaped when it is manufactured, which is possible with a normal corundum disk and can be accomplished quickly. Since the support plate does not need to be reground, it remains completely functional and can be used together with a new blade plate.

  • Patent number: 5575320
Abstract: The disclosure describes a cutting tool assembly for mounting unto a rotatable chip forming head. It comprises a knife holder having a base portion which is adapted to be secured peripherally to the head and a cantilevered plate portion having a lower section integral with the base portion and an upper section extending obliquely over the base portion. The cantilevered arrangement of the knife supporting plate enables the lateral ejection of chips produced from a solid piece of wood during operation so that chips do not contact successive cutting tool assemblies as the head rotates.
