Tool Adjustable Relative To Holder Patents (Class 407/44)
  • Patent number: 5658101
Abstract: An improved milling head. A milling head is provided with a backing plate with a toothed system on the from side, whose teeth run in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the carrier body. Because the blade plate has a toothed system, which can be engaged with the toothed system on the front of the support plate, the blade plate no longer needs to be shifted radially outward to be resharpened. Rather the blade plate must only be radially displaced to the outside by a tooth of a micro-toothed system. This simplifies the regrinding on a constant flight circle diameter, because only the hard metal of the blade plate needs to be ground, which can be accomplished with a normal hard metal grinding wheel. The support plate only needs to be shaped when it is manufactured, which is possible with a normal corundum disk and can be accomplished quickly. Since the support plate does not need to be reground, it remains completely functional and can be used together with a new blade plate.

  • Patent number: 5320458
Abstract: A cutting tool includes a rotary bar having an arcuate pocket in its side surface, and a segmental carrier arcuately slidable in the pocket to adjust the position of a cutting tip on a cutter blade. The carrier has a second arcuate pocket that slidably receives a segment-shaped shoe, such that the shoe can be arcuately adjusted to control or vary the back taper angle on the blade. The cutting blade is mounted flatwise on one face of the shoe, such that a corner tip on the blade projects beyond the profile of the rotary bar for use in reaming a hole in a workpiece. The adjustment axis of the shoe is coincident with the cutting tip on the reamer blade so that adjusting motions of the shoe do not disturb the position of the cutting tip achieved by arcuate adjustment of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5188490
Abstract: A tool for use in machine-tools with a cutting head (14) has at least one interchangeable cartridge (24) which can be releasably fastened to the cutting head and which carries an interchangeable insert. The interchangeable cartridge can be adjusted on the cutting head in the advance direction of the insert by the action of an adjustment mechanism. The adjustment mechanism has a tapered ram (46) which can move along a guide (42) of the cutting head (14) arranged parallel to the plane of the insert and essentially perpendicular to the advance direction of the cutting head (14). The tapered ram has a tapered surface (44) which is inclined at an acute angle to the direction of sliding and which is contiguous with an inclined shoulder (54) of the interchangeable cartridge which makes a right angle, in the direction of the inclined tapered surface, with the advance direction.

  • Patent number: 5120166
Abstract: A broaching tool has at least one adjustable cutting blade or plate. A two-fold adjustment is possible by mounting each cutting blade on an upper section of an insert mounted in a recess of a support or support ring sector. The upper insert section is secured to a lower insert section. The lower insert section is radially adjustable. The upper insert section is axially adjustable. Each adjustment can be made independently of the other adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5112171
Abstract: Formed in a basic body (13) connected to a drive spindle is a supporting surface (15a) which is at right angles to the rotational axis (10a) of the basic body (13) and on which one end face (16a) of a rotatable setting disk (16) rests. The other end face (16b) of the setting disk (16) is inclined relative to the first mentioned end face (16a). Resting on the setting disk (16) is a cutter holder (17) in which a cutter (18) is held. The cutting edge (19) of this cutter (18) runs approximately in the radial direction. The inclination of the cutting edge (19) of the cutter relative to a plane disposed at right angles to the rotational axis (10a) can now be changed by turning the setting disk (16), as a result of which the desired quality of the circumference of the machined gravure cylinder can be achieved without the cutting edge (19) of the cutter needing to be ground very accurately.

  • Patent number: 5102268
Abstract: The present invention relates to a milling cutter having a cutter body and a plurality of replaceable tool cartridges circumferentially spaced about the outer periphery of the cutter body. An adjustment mechanism permits adjustment of the tool cartridges in the direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the cutter body. The adjustment mechanism includes an adjustment screw threaded into a corresponding bore in the cutter body. The head of the adjustment screw projects into an inclined throughbore in the tool cartridge. When the adjustment screw is turned, the head of the screw bears against the inner surface of the throughbore causing the tool cartridge to be axially displaced. A locking screw is tightened to secure the tool cartridge in place after it has been adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4893967
Abstract: A cutting-tool cartridge arrangement for rotary cutting tools in which the cutting-tool cartridge assembly is mountable in an aperture in the cutting-tool body member. The cartridge assembly has an annular split bushing for insertion into the tool body aperture, has internal threads and a slot in the wall to provide a pair of opposed surfaces resiliently movable towards and away from each other. A set screw aperture is provided in the tool body member. The stud seat is threaded into the split bushing. The stud seat has a cutting insert end having matching walls that match the wall configuration of the mounting walls of a frustum cutting insert. A clamping nut threadingly engages the stud seat threaded walls at the cutting insert end thereof and has internal walls configured to match the cutting inserts flank surface. Tightening the clamping nut on the stud seat clamps the frustum cutting insert therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4392402
Abstract: A transverse cutter for a running web of paper or the like has two rotary drum-shaped holders disposed opposite each other at the opposite sides of the path for the web. Each holder carries at least one knife with an elongated cutting edge extending transversely of the path of movement of the web, and each knife of one holder cooperates with a knife of the other holder to sever the web once during each revolution of the holders.
