Resiliently Mounted Tool Patents (Class 407/9)
  • Patent number: 10610956
Abstract: A cutting tool that can simultaneously cut and restore asymmetric weld face geometries of two welding electrodes that are subject to different degradation mechanisms is disclosed along with a method of using such a cutting tool during resistance spot welding of workpiece stack-ups that include dissimilar metal workpieces. The cutting tool includes a first cutting socket and a second cutting socket. The first cutting socket is defined by one or more first shearing surfaces and the second cutting is defined by one or more second shearing surfaces. The first shearing surface(s) and the second shearing surface(s) are profiled to cut and restore a first weld face geometry and a second weld face geometry, respectively, that are different from each other upon receipt of electrode weld faces within the cutting sockets and rotation of the cutting tool.

Abstract: A cutting tool, such as a slotting cutter, includes a support disc rotatable in a predetermined direction on a central axis. The support disc is of a generally cylindrical shape has a plurality of cartridge-receiving pockets. A cartridge assembly is capable of being mounted to the pocket and includes a cutting insert with at least one cutting edge secured to each cartridge assembly. The cartridge assembly includes a tapered, threaded hole for receiving a tapered, threaded screw. The threaded hole is off-center to divide the lower portion of the cartridge assembly into two portions having different thicknesses and flexibility. A slot extends from the threaded hole to a bottom face of the cartridge assembly. The cartridge assembly expands as the tapered, threaded screw is received in the tapered, threaded hole to secure the cartridge assembly in the pocket.

  • Patent number: 6557445
Abstract: The invention relates to a tool holding assembly with an adjustment means capable of causing the tool holding end of the assembly to bend in relation to the opposite attachment end of the assembly. This is accomplished by providing first and second contact surfaces longitudinally spaced from each other along the assembly, and providing an adjustment means having at least one adjustment screw, wherein by adjusting the screw, pressure can be simultaneously applied by the adjustment means onto the first and second contact surfaces, such that an axis of one end of the assembly can be displaced by bending in relation to the other.

  • Patent number: 5716171
Abstract: A deburring tool comprising a barrel having a blade slot integrally formed in its top end and a blade having an aperture disposed therethrough freely positioned within the blade slot. A blade axle aperture is disposed through the barrel and the blade slot. The blade axle is positioned within the blade axle aperture and through the blade aperture in order to secure the blade within the blade slot. A resilient positioning member aperture is integrally formed in the bottom end of the barrel for receiving the resilient positioning member. The resilient positioning member maintains contact with the blade and exerts an outward force against it. The blade is able to retract if forced but will immediately extend outward due to the resilient positioning member as soon as any opposing forces dissipate.

  • Patent number: 5709510
Abstract: A clamp for indexable inserts used especially for turning. The clamp consists essentially of a clamp shaft and a clamp head combined with it in one piece. The clamp shaft can be secured to an axis-parallel clamping surface of a tool holder by a supporting surface obliquely transfixed by a clamping screw. The clamp head has an open-edged recess to take the indexable insert, one effective cutting corner of which projects on one side beyond the outer surface away from the support surface. In order to be able to adjust the distance between the clamping surface and the cutting corner, the clamp head has, in the free region between the recess, the supporting surface and the clamp shaft, a slot-like aperture having a curved cross-sectional shape open towards the clamp shaft. The clamp head can be elastically bent with respect to the clamp shaft under the effect of an adjuster.

  • Patent number: 5137065
Abstract: A lathe tool includes a stiff shank and handle portion and, adjustably extending forward from the shank, cantilever fashion, an elongated resilient blade. The combination is configured and disposed on a tool rest so that, when the tip of the blade engages a downwardly moving surface of a workpiece, a vibration or chatter of the blade results and produces a three dimensional textured pattern on the workpiece. Pattern and texture may be selectively varied by adjusting the unsupported length of the blade (to control its frequency of vibration), by changing speed of rotation of the workpiece, by changing pressure of the tool blade on the workpiece, and by lateral and rotational manipulation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 5046671
Abstract: A tooth for use in a comminuter roll comprises a roll of spring steel having a first end formed into a point or other abrading shape. The tooth is compressed upon insertion into a mounting hole in the roll and the inherent spring of the steel tends to force the tooth back to its original size, thereby creating forces on the interior of the mounting hole to form an interference fit that holds the tooth in place in the mounting hole. In a preferred embodiment, the tooth is formed of a roll of spring steel having a G-shaped cross section. This shape provides an opening through the length of the tooth and also leaves a solid place in the center of the tooth to aid in tooth removal. A rod can be slipped through the lengthwise opening of the first tooth so that its end abuts the solid center portion of the second tooth that is colinearly mounted in the other end of the hole that the first tooth is mounted in. Tapping the rod will force the second tooth out of its hole without disturbing the first tooth.

  • Patent number: 4844670
Abstract: A cutter for the deburring of bores comprises a rectangular edged cutter element having taperingly extending cutting edges, having clearance surfaces ground undercut and comprising a convexly ground contact surface on one end of the cutter head for contact with the internal surface of a bore. Two oppositely aligned cutter elements are mounted for displacement in a radial direction in a guide recess of a tool holder, and while in the operative position during the deburring of a bore, the cutting elements are displaced inwards radially because of the tool holder feed and because of the tapered extension of the cutting edges, against a spring force in the guide recess, until they finally reach the inner area of the bore in the non-cutting mode.
