Abstract: A boring head comprises a housing disposed about a central longitudinal axis and a movement transmission mechanism disposed at least one of on or in the housing. The housing includes a first end adapted to be coupled to a machine tool and an opposite second end having a cutting insert movably coupled thereto. The movement transmission mechanism comprises a rotatable member mounted to be rotatable relative to the housing, a balancing mass, and a main shaft disposed in the housing. The main shaft is rotatable about the longitudinal axis and operationally coupled to the ring, the balancing mass, and the cutting insert. Rotation of the rotatable member a predetermined amount causes movement of the cutting insert a corresponding predetermined amount in a first radial direction with respect to the longitudinal axis and movement of the balancing mass a corresponding predetermined amount in a second radial direction opposite the first radial direction.

  • Patent number: 7591209
Abstract: An object is to provide a vibration suppressing cutting tool which is inexpensive and can damp chattering extremely effectively, and which is simple in structure and is applicable to a wide variety of machining diameters and cutting conditions. The shank 2 of the holder 1 is formed with a pocket 4. In the pocket 4, a vibration suppressing piece 5 is received so as to be movable relative to the holder 1 and not protrudable from the pocket 4. Under kinetic energy from the holder during cutting, the vibration suppressing piece 5 alternately knocks against a pair of opposed inner wall surfaces 4a and 4b of the pocket along its surface, along a plurality of lines or on a plurality of points when the holder vibrates during cutting, thereby damping vibrations of the holder.

Abstract: The vibration suppressing device includes vibration sensors, a FFT calculating unit, a store device, a calculating unit, and a NC device. The vibration sensors detect a time-domain vibrational acceleration of a rotary shaft during rotating. The FFT calculating unit calculates a frequency of chatter vibration and a frequency-domain vibrational acceleration in the frequency of chatter vibration on the basis of the detected time-domain vibrational acceleration. The store device stores the frequency-domain vibrational acceleration, the frequency of chatter vibration and the like as machining information.

Abstract: A mechanism for suppressing grinding-cutting vibration comprises a C-shaped base, a fixed support seat, a clamp device and a vibration absorber. Based on vibration absorbing principle of the vibration theory, the clamp device is connected to the movable cutting machine, so as to move along with the cutting machine during the machining operation, and the clamp force applied to clamp the workpiece is adjustable. By such arrangements, the vibration energy produced at the time of cutting the workpiece can be transferred to the vibration absorber through the clamp device, and then a part of the vibration energy will be absorbed by the vibration absorber, thus achieving the objective of reducing vibration of the cut position.

Abstract: A variable tuned holder for machine tools that attaches to a machine tool to act in a manner similar to a dynamic absorber while the machine tool is used during machining. The natural frequency of the holder may be matched to the natural frequency of the machine tool as the tool is in use to reduce the amplitude of vibration at the cutting end of tool with a workpiece. The present invention is designed to provide an impedance match between the machine tool and the holder such that the cutting energy may escape and/or be dissipated. The flexible holder may be used as one part of an overall system. The system may be designed to be used with tools of different shapes and/or lengths. As the shape and/or length of the machine tool changes, the system may be easily modified to change the natural frequency of the flexible holder to enable the dynamic absorber effect of the flexible holder to occur.
