Abstract: The present invention provides a new drilling tool useful in machining hydraulic port seals for fluid power ports. The drilling tool drills the port hole to size in a solid material for the minor thread diameter in combination with forming the port in a single operation. The drilling tool has a tool holder having a rotational axis, a first drilling insert having cutting surfaces on a first side and a mounting surface on a second side, at least one second drilling insert having a predetermined cutting surface portion and a mounting portion which is mounted on the holder at a location from the rotational axis of the holder. The at least one second drilling insert has first and second portions which engage and machine a work piece in a drilling operation to form a spot face and a seal form.

Abstract: An abrasive wear-resistant material includes a matrix and sintered and cast tungsten carbide granules. A device for use in drilling subterranean formations includes a first structure secured to a second structure with a bonding material. An abrasive wear-resistant material covers the bonding material. The first structure may include a drill bit body and the second structure may include a cutting element. A method for applying an abrasive wear-resistant material to a drill bit includes providing a bit, mixing sintered and cast tungsten carbide granules in a matrix material to provide a pre-application material, heating the pre-application material to melt the matrix material, applying the pre-application material to the bit, and solidifying the material. A method for securing a cutting element to a bit body includes providing an abrasive wear-resistant material to a surface of a drill bit that covers a brazing alloy disposed between the cutting element and the bit body.

Abstract: The tool (1) according to the invention is equipped with cutting inserts (5) made of polycrystalline diamond and with washing channels cooling the tool from the inside and discharging, through outlet holes (15), jets of compressed air that remove the highly abrasive powders produced during machining from the cutting areas. In this manner, the tool undergoes less abrasion and anyway it can be sufficiently cooled. The particular choice of the material of the cutting inserts makes the tool more abrasion resistant, while conferring it in the whole a longer operating life. The invention also concerns a method of milling composite materials.

Abstract: A method of forming a batch of uniformly shaped glass sheet objects is disclosed. A stack of glass sheets is placed in a frame and submerged in a coolant. A hole is drilled through the stack. The cores of the hole and any debris from the drilling process are swept away in the coolant and pumped through a filter. A pin is inserted into the hole and attached to the base. A head on the pin, or a washer, fixes the stack of glass to the base at the hole. An outer profile is then cut in the glass stack around the hole while the formed objects are held to a base of the frame by the pin. Again, any debris is swept away in the coolant. The uniformly shaped objects are removed from the frame and separated. The glass sheet objects are preferably usable as a substrate for a magnetic or magneto-optical (MO) data/information storage retrieval medium.
